We had a gorgeous, large and stylish suite which was very well equipped. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Food was delicious. THe Residence is in a quiet and smart area of the city, yet within ten minutes walk of Princes Street. THe tram is even closer! This was a fun place to stay - you could be as... More

We have stayed here a couple of times over the last ten years and have always had great service from the staff. The location is great for a trip to Edinburgh, we have been with our own car and when just using taxi's & buses - both are equally convenient. The rooms are large with fabulous views over Dean Village.... More

The ER is converted old house on the edge of the new town. The floors we were on I could only describe as somewhat labyrinthine (I think there are 5 turns and 4 doors between the stairs and our suite). Each suite seems to be unique (our son's suite was very different than ours), but large and comfortable. It has... More

Travelling as a couple we had one week in Suite 19 that has amazing views over Dean Village complex. Superbly furnished with every amenity - large comfortable double bed, microwave cooker and fridge available; tea/coffee making; Jacuzzi bath and separate shower etc. Service is first class. It is very quiet with no traffic noise, and the hotel has free parking... More

Lovely room and the service is great!! However, for the first time ever in 20 years of staying here there was a lot of loud noise at about 9.10-9.25am caused by the cleaners speaking /shouting very loudly when cleaning the room opposite. This only happened once but unfortunately it had to happen on the morning we had decided to have... More

We often stay at the ER and it is always very good, the Suites are unique and of a high standard. The bathrooms are spacious with lovely big showers and baths. Makes a refreshing change not to bump into yourself when you go to the bathroom! The staff go out of their way to help and are very friendly. The... More

Booked here for a one nighter in Edinburgh and could not believe how good it was. Staff from arriving to leaving could not be more helpful, even at midnight when we fancied a nightcap having come back from a special party. Free private parking at the back is a huge bonus! although the valet seemed disappointed I'd found it myself.... More

My husband and I spent two nights at this hotel The décor is based on Victorian which was beautiful with brass bed and beautiful Victorian bathroom. Nice surprise to have our breakfast bought to our room in the morning. Location within walking distance of Edinburgh. Quiet peaceful hotel. Staff helpful and friendly

Booked this place as a surprise for my other half's birthday and was not disappointed. From the moment you arrive you are made to feel very welcome. Room was amazing with fantastic views of the city. Bathroom was bigger than I've seen in most places. Felt at home right away and the breakfast choice was very good and catered for... More

We have just finished our 20 years of timeshare at this property. It's had its ups and downs, and some visits have been better than others. This time it was first class and it seems to have improved under its new owners. Staff very friendly and efficient, And nothing too much trouble. Cannot comment on the food as Edinburgh has... More

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
