I stopped here for one night with my wife. Check in was great very fast and efficient and our room was ready early. The young ladies who spoke to us at check in were really helpful and easy to talk to. No stuffiness. The hotels modern and clean and breakfast is good, served to your room at no extra cost...

The room was excellent and very clean. The complimentary mini bar is superb (jelly tots!). I would highly recommend the full Scottish breakfast and the hotel bar does excellent drinks. Straight across from Waverley makes it excellent for both en route travel and shopping/sight seeing! The room service is very good and the staff always very friendly!

Stayed 1 night when visiting the theatre - nice clean modern hotel, rooms have everything you need including good quality toiletries and plenty of towels. Room nice and warm on a cold day Pleasant greeting on arrival and hotel facilities explained to us, checkout is 12 noon which is brilliant The hotel is well located for restaurants and the theatre...

This hotel is ideally located right by the Yorke Street Tram stop, and is well placed to the city centre and attractions. Real milk in the mini bar made the morning cuppa much nicer than when hotels only supply small UHT cartons...a welcome change The reception staff made us feel very welcome, and suggested some sights to see in Edinburgh....

Really lovely hotel in an excellent location. Rooms are fab and in good nick too - really spacious and really high ceilings resulting from its Georgian style. Breakfast could have been better but overall loved it and would definitely return.

Stayed at the Hotel Indigo on York Place for the fifth time and again we had an excellent stay. We were able to check in on arrival at 2:00pm. Reception staff were helpful and friendly. Used the free wi-fi service offered. We had a great room on the first floor with a view over York Place. Our room was very...

Had a fantastic stay here. The hotel was clean and modern, room was cleaned whilst we were out each day. The location is good, with the main shopping areas only a short walk away. We found staff to be welcoming and accommodating. After arriving late on a Friday evening, we opted for room service which arrived quickly and was good...

Couldn't manage the heating and they advised what to do and rang back to ensure we had managed. Best bit was breakfast in bed at no extra cost. Only thing is check in not til 3 pm and they...

Stayed at this hotel last fri, hotel itself was lovely. We had a king room it was big enough, had a free mini bar of soft drinks and biscuits which was a really nice touch. However breakfast in the morning was awful, the service was so slow, waited 45 mins for a cooked breakfast, and when it did arrive, it's...

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighborhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighborhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicenter Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
