Our visit here for a 3 night stay was underwhelming. Luggage drop off/taxi pick ups etc almost impossible and parking whilst close by is very expensive, even when booked in advance. The tram does stop directly at the door, so a good option for those coming from the airport. The Romeos was modern but extremely warm and lacked fresh air... More

While the hotel is in a great location and reception staff are friendly and helpful booking taxis etc . Our room was in the basement and guiet compact the bathroom was ok with nice toiletries . . The aircon wasn't that good so had to ask for a fan . The nice touch was the complimentary mini bar . The... More

Thank you for your recent review. I am so sorry that your stay was spoiled by somereally poor service on our part and I can only apologise. It is certainly not usual practice to offer 'used' butter portions to our guests and I shall ensure the entire team are reminded of this. I really hope that you would re-consider coming... More

A Fringe Festival 2 night stay. Allocated an upgraded suite (room 6) which was basement level at front of hotel. Spacious, modern and perfectly clean room with usual Indigo treats in mini bar. Lovely comfortable huge bed. Separate area with a couple of chaise longues and 2nd TV. Big rainfall shower and massive bath. Breakfast was very good and all... More

We stayed at this hotel for one night. It is well located in Edinburgh. Our room was up a labyrinth of stairs with no view but the kitchen vent. We could not open the window at night because of the noise and smell. would we have had realized that earlier we would have changed the room. Otherwise the room was... More

This hotel is in an excellent location just near John Lewis / Pricess Street and easy walking distance to the sights. The bar / restaurant is small but modern. Service excellent. I had a junior sweet in the basement which was modern and well appointed, with a lovely bathroom. There wasnt much of a view down there but that didnt... More

This hotel is in a fantastic location, a short walk from the station and shops and around a 15 minute walk to the Royal Mile. It is stylish and modern within its old-building context. Bar and restaurant are small but comfortable and the superior rooms are large with lots of great facilities. My only gripes are the huge TV they... More

This hotel is located at the end of the tram ride from the airport. It stops right outside the door of the hotel. Just around the corner is the main street princess street and across from that the castle and royal mile. There are some good restaurants around the hotel also. For breakfast visit cafe marylaine 2 minutes away. Wifi... More

The best parts of the hotel are it's location (close to Princess street, railway station and a meeting place for guided tours), interior, wi-fi and a mini-bar with free soft drinks. I've stayed in a Superior room for 2 nights and then in a Standard room for 2 nights as well. Superior room was very spacious, especially the shower. Drawbacks... More

We were quite satisfied with our 2 night stay. Good location. Comfortable bed. Friendly and helpful staff. Good location. It was a bit hard to find because of the signage, but that's a minor point. Overall --- very nice!

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighborhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighborhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicenter Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
