Stayed here last weekend and what a little gem of a hotel, loved it. Fantastic location right in the centre of town and an easy walk to Murrayfield (we were there for the Rugby). Rooms were a great size including the bathroom and had all the little extras which makes it feel luxurious. The bar was very modern with a... More

Internet access has long been the achillies heel of The Rutland. They used to have a nightmare system which required you to constantly enter long alphanumeric codes for each device you want to use. They now have a system that in theory works via a Facebook login, except it doesn't. I asked for help only to be told it is... More

I came from London for a romantic short break with my partner, paid for by my mum as a birthday treat - lucky me :) Arriving by train, the Rutland was easy to find at the far end of Princes Street. Fairly unprepossessing from the outside (apart from the steer who appears to be leaping from an upstairs window!), but... More

Hotel is centrally located and was a 20 min trip from airport and only 5 min from train station. Rooms are high end and unique with Nespresso machines, mini fridges, hair straightener and hair dryer, etc. comfortable bed. We were on third floor and elevator only goes to 2nd which was ok with us. Breakfast was included and you order... More

I am so glad I found this place on google! Beautiful unique boutique hotel with modern jacuzzi bathrooms, in room surround sound Bluetooth system, and little luxuries like complimentary home made muffins! We visited for my boyfriends birthday, and after being warmly greeted by the lovely lady on reception (with beautiful turquoise hair!) we were shown to our stunning room!... More

An exceptional, romantic stay, ideally located in the Westend, with staff as welcoming and warm, as mulled wine on a winter evening. Sitting on Princes Street, credit card debt inducing shops and historic sites are on your doorstep; allowing bulging shopping bags to be easily ferried back to your luxurious room, before you indulge in culture. (a stroll to the... More

We were booked for a night and needed to stay another night. The staff was very accommodating, even though we had to change rooms from a pretty impressive Edwardian Room to another regular twin room. Both rooms were impeccable with all basic amenities, and the Edwardian room had a great view with a huge bed and big windows making the... More

We stayed for a few nights for my wife's birthday recently and the hotel was possibly one of the best in which I have ever stayed. We had a Castle View room, which had fantastic views of Prince's Street and up the hill to the castle. Despite being right on the road (and being passed every few seconds by a... More

Just off Princes St this welcoming hotel was a perfect place to stay just overnight after watching a rugby international. Many other hotels wouldn't offer a one night stay so it was great to find one that did. The room was clean very comfortable with complimentary muffins . The staff were very helpful. It was a pleasant change not to... More

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
