We had such a lovely time at the Rutland. All the staff were excellent, friendly and helpful from the minute we arrived. The room was as described, it was light, bright and very clean. The hotel made a big fuss of us because it was our 25th wedding anniversary. Highlights were the Bluetooth music system which allowed us to have... More

My husband and I stayed here on 14 July and were more than impressed. In our opinion the very best place to stay in Edinburgh. We visit this lovely City every year as a special treat usually staying at one of the larger more well known hotels but from now on will not be staying anywhere else. It is the... More

Great hotel. Quiet, modern, spacious room. Good air conditioning system that kept our room the right temperature for a perfect nights sleep. Amazing breakfast and brilliant service at the Huxley downstairs (make sure breakfast is included). All in all great value for a hotel situated in the heart of Edinburgh and within walking distance of all the main attractions.

Stayed here with my boyfriend in December after looking through reviews & deciding to book (through booking.com) & we wern't disapointed! We were directed to a room with a lovely a green theme to it, the room was bright, clean & spacious with a comfy bed & plenty of wardrobe space. The bathroom was clean with a heated towel rail... My wife and I stayed for one night, Saturday 25th June, it was our first visit. The Rutland fit the bill perfectly for the trip to see an "old friend" at Meadowbank stadium. We've stayed "all over" Edinburgh on the Royal Mile, in the Grassmarket, on George St, off Leith walk and also in Leith itself, so we know the... More

The Rutland was a beautiful boutique hotel, perfectly located at one end of Prince's Street, nice view of the castle or intersection. Free breakfast at the Huxley. Great whiskey bar across the street. Walking distance to everything. If we come back to Edinburgh, we will come back to the Rutland.

Excellent location at western end Princes Street. Large room with very comfortable bed. Fresh milk for tea and coffee making was a nice touch. Our room and bathroom were wheelchair friendly which meant the room was huge but only down side was tiny sink in bathroom; not sure if this could have been different. Breakfast was in a public cafe... More

The rooms were beautifully decorated. Perfectly located, friendly staff and the most comfortable bed I've slept in for the last month. There's not much room in the fridge for milk and other things because they fill it up with stuff they want you to buy. Put their stuff on the bench and the milk in the door of the fridge;... More

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
