Spent a wonderful three nights at the Principal, room was nice if a little noisy. Loved the bar and all the staff were fantastic. Really great location, couldn't be nearer to shops, restaurants, train station, buses etc.

From arriving our car was valet parked for us by the super friendly concierge. Our bags were taken up to our gorgeous room with an amazing view and cake and prosecco waiting for us. Firstly the positives Location is excellent on George Street and only minutes from Princes Street and a 20 minute uphill walk towards the Royal Mile and the Castle. The rooms are well appointed and the Superior room we booked had the nice little addition of a free 'tuck box' including biscuits, crisps, tea and coffee as well as fresh milk...

Booked weekend break and upgraded from double room to superior double which was on the 1st floor next to the lifts and right next to the door leading to staircase. The room was nice enough but the heating system was loud enough to drown the noise of a jet engine. Consequently when going to bed we had to switch the...

Staying in New Town

Neighborhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighborhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
