We've stayed here numerous times over the years and even for Christmas. Great hotel, great location. It had been recently renovated so we were intrigued to see what it was like. We booked a junior suite for my up and coming birthday which was beautiful. In theme with the city and the furnishings were nothing less than plush. The only... More

Loved everything about this hotel, the staff were excellent, rooms clean. Centrally located, great bar with excellent cocktails! Didn't eat in the hotel so cant comment. Would have no hesitation in returning to The George.

The hotel was booked by our agent and we had only seen pics. Well what a pleasant surprise, the place was even better than it looked, lovely staff looked after every need, not sure if we will ever get back here but sits highly recommended.

My husband and I had booked a hotel close by for a two night stay in Edinburgh, upon arrival we were told that they had an issue with their system and they double booked our room for the first night... So we scrambled to find another hotel to spend the night at. We had a rather upsetting incident attempting to... More

I'm writing this review rather late, but we chose to have our wedding reception here last November. The George is a fabulous venue in the heart of the city. All of the wedding stuff was dealt with fantastically (after some issues with the initial team of people). But once Andreas & Oskar had taken over, it was perfect. I stayed... More

Just stayed for two nights with family. Hotel staff were amazingly friendly and helpful. Lewis and Mike in the restaurant were really helpful and deserve praise as do the kilted door staff whose names I didn't get. The rooms were newly refurbished and very clean and well looked after. Neals yard toiletries and fluffy towels and service staff on hand... More

I come often at the George when I am in town for business, and last time my staying was not satisfactory. While the hotel has been restructured, the service has definitely worsened. Upon my arrival at around 8 pm, there was only one employee in reception, despite several guests were waiting to check-in. As usual I asked for a silent... More

My wife took me here last Saturday for my birthday, second time we have been here and I'm sure not the last. We got one of the recently refurbished rooms which has been styled brilliantly. We also got a free glass of champagne with our stay and free access to the breakfast buffet which there is plenty to choose from.... More

The hotel is ideally located with a fab new refurb... The staff were really friendly and helpful. The only issue I had was the traffic noise but if you want a good location like The George then you will deal with it. I would stay again.. The bar and restaurant was really nice too.

Staying in New Town

Neighborhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighborhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
