Was up to Edinburgh just for some days to look at the Military Tattoo. Booked a room at George, actually a suit(317). What s nice experience, the bed was amazing, one of the best I have slept in. The service from the staff was excellent. Everyone was nice and very helpful, but best of all was Monica, "boss" in the very nice clubroom. She fixed everything, whatever you wanted. A marvelous women. George should be very glad to have such a employee. Next time we go to Edinburgh it's George again! .

Our flight from Boston got us to the hotel at 8AM and we knew we couldn't check in, but Antonio's (more about staff later, b warm welcome proved to be the first of one positive experience after another during our 3 nights and one more returning from Mull!) He arranged to store bags and call when the room was ready. Then looking for a place to sit down—the lobby is lovely and in the original Georgian part, but my husband wanted to close his eyes—Dora let us into the empty library. He dozed and I took a walk. The location was perfect and we enjoyed getting to know George Street and all the ones off it. Returning at 4, (though the call came much sooner) our room had mistakenly been booked as a handicapped one (note if you need this, they are large and well equipped). We were moved to another large one with a view of the Firth, seating area and the huge bathroom with tub and shower, two sinks was so gorgeous I wished I had space in my home to duplicate it. High quality bedding in comfy bed, and just the kind of room you want to come back to after a day of much walking, which we do. It and the entire hotel was spotless. The breakfast in what was some sort of banquet hall offered delicious fresh food in abundance. Besides the buffet, you could order an omelette of any kind, kinds of eggs benedicts, pancakes, porridge and more cooked immediately. There were too many names to note and I've sadly forgotten some, but Christine, Rebecca, Thomas, Gavin, Frank, Ahmed, are a few. It sounds trite, but we really did feel part of the George family as we were there for all those days! We went off the beaten track in the city-yes went to the Catle and Holyrood-but also visited the striking parliament building and stayed to listen to a fascinating session about a report on increasing elected gender and other diversity representation plus coping with social media toxicity and bullying. Oh would that happen in Congress. A pipe dream. So, we will definitely return to Edinburgh and the George. We hadn't been in the city for many many years. Many thanks to all!!

This hotel is quite surprising, you would expect top notch service and posh amenities, but in reality you are given less than helpful staff and cramped dirty amenities. The bell staff watched me struggle with 4 large suitcases and finally offered to lend a hand after I was in the hotel. The hallways are small and the floors are consistently dirty. Rooms are small and lackluster. The bathroom fixtures feel prefabricated and cheap instead of bespoke. The accommodations are not worth the money or expectation. On a positive side, the food inside the restaurant is very tasty and the restaurant staff is exceptional, probably because the restaurant is independent from the hotel. Overall the hotel is liveable but please reduce your expectations for this hotel. It is sad that this hotel hold the name “intercontinental” and “5-star”

A family trip - we booked 2 king rooms The good - Fantastic hospitality. Everyone from front desk, room service, breakfast attendants, concierge was FANTASTIC ! This is one hotel which comes very close to hospitality found in South East Asia - rooms were spacious. bathroom was on the smaller side, but was enough - wide selection of teas, and shortbread cookies in the room, along with very good coffee - room service was prompt - Location is excellent - 10 min walk to Royal mile, castle. 5 mins to old town, princess street and other attractions The not-so-good - we were on the 1st floor (back of hotel). every morning, a delivery truck would stop by at 7am and it was a bit noisy.

Wonderful old style hotel with charm, comfort and great location. Within walking distance of new town and old town shops, pubs and restaurants. Walking distance from the train station. Very good front desk staff, better than usual breakfast buffets. Tip, ask for cappuccino rather than coffee

An grand old world hotel with all the great features of the past and all the modern conveniences. Perfectly located in the heart of town. The staff is totally tuned to the needs of their guests. I loved the tartan plaid suits and kilts. A totally Scottish experience. Can’t wait to go back!

Me and my husband treated ourselves to a 2 night break to Edinburgh child free! We have stayed at intercontinental hotels before so knew we were in for a treat. The hotel was beautiful, the staff were very welcoming and always greated us with a smile and hello. Breakfast was amazing so much choice all hot food was made to order so was loveley and fresh, the continental selection was also very good. We had a drink in the bar which was loveley staff come to your table and take your order, we were given water without even having to ask they had run out of prosecco so we had rose wine instead which was very nice. Our room was on the first floor our view was of a back alley this didn't bother me. The water and shortbread were a nice touch. The bed was massive and so comfortable and the pillows were to die for. The bathroom was small but had a bath with rainfall shower. We really enjoyed our stay BUT it was massively let down by the fact that our room backed on to a cleaning cupboard the constant banging of the door started in the very early hours and went on all morning, we did mention this when we checked out but didn't even get an apology just a look. This did really let our experience down as when you go away without children the main thing you look forward to is having a nice long lay in. Having said this I would probably stay here again when I next visit. I would of thought the cleaners would be more thoughtful of the guests trying to sleep.

A recent 2 night say at the Intercontinental Edinburgh was one of the nicest stays this year in the UK. We arrived around 10.30 and was greeted by Antonio the FOH supervisor who was exceptionally helpful and friendly. He informed us that we had a nice upgrade, but the room was not ready but instead of having to ask for a holding room, Antonio offered this straight away. A first for me as I can’t remember the last time this happened, and I’ve been a RA for 14 years and a IHG member for 17 years. The holding room was a basic room but as my wife needed to work it was very welcome. I however went to the gym which is a little tricky to find depending which side of the hotel you are staying in as you have to go to certain floors and then get a lift to the basement but you are going to the gym so you can’t really complain about the distance. The gym is small but well equipped with the exception of free weights which stop at 10Kg a personal preference, there are plenty of water and towels for your workout. The room was ready around 1.30pm so we moved over to our new room. This was a small suite with a lounge area, and comfy sofa. When we arrived there was a bottle of champagne and a cocktail mix waiting in the room which was not expected but so very welcome as there is no club lounge yet but its due to open immanently. What I liked about the room was the high windows which gave a lot of privacy as we were facing onto the many street and a previous visit we had a suite with big windows that I found quite noisy as the hotel is opposite a club and a few bars which close at 3am so light sleepers might request a different room. I did hear the noise in this room, but it was not something that woke me Despite the small, high window the room was still very light, and the natural light was very good. The bathroom had both shower and bathtub which was very large and as I’m 6’3’ was till able to relax in the tub very easily. A well-designed space which one small drawback is the step into the bathroom that caught me out a few times but nothing to do with the complimentary champagne 😊 We did spend some time in the room, and it was very nice to sit and have a drink on the sofa and there’s a big TV on the wall should you wish to watch TV. The breakfast is very good but it’s very busy and we did have to wait to get a table. The first morning it took around 20 mins to get the hot breakfast and the bacon was inedible but there were fresh rashers on the counter. Also, the tatty scone was rock hard. Om the second day the haggis, sausage and beans were missing but juts aske and it was brough out. Things like this don’t spoil my stay but the attention to detail was not there and at Over £300+ this should really be better. all in all, we very much enjoyed the stay and Antonio was so very charming and engaging every time we saw him, he asked how we were and how the stay was. I now look to book a stay in early sept for around 4 days to enjoy the hotel a lot more.

This hotel is located in the most convention location for most of Edinburgh sites, especially the Castle. There are wonderful restaurants nearby by just ask and they will give you great suggestions. We went to the ones suggested by Scott, one of the staff, and he didn't let us down The breakfast served was delicious and the staff was on top of everything. The management was terrific!

This is more like a motel. Old hallways, horrible views. Heartless management that is counting pennies and making sure they squeeze every penny out of people with little to no courtesy. Horribly old rooms.
