I stayed here for one night whilst on business in the area. I was unsure what to expect given the rate paid in advance. I need not have worried, it was lovely. Reception staff were friendly and efficient. The reception area had a nice modern feel to it. My room on the ground floor was spacious, complete with a settee... More

It is a good 10-15 minute walk to the castle and to a small street with loads of bars and restaurants and the edinburgh museum. Plenty of places to eat near by. Room is large and clean. The hair dyer in my room broke so I called reception and the maintenence man (sorry I've forgotten his name) came to my... More

I was definitely pleased with my selection of this hotel. The hotel was well equipped, comfortable, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel had a safe in the room to secure your belongings albeit it was located on the floor in the closet, so a bit interesting getting the goods in. The hotel also has its own restaurant... More

Facilities were nice & clean, some of the staff could do with improving their customer care though but overall recommended. Got told when we arrived we were lucky but could park in one of the courtyard parking spaces & it would be okay to leave it there for our stay (3 days) only to be woken up the next morning... More

I stayed here with a group of friends for 2 nights. The rooms were clean and comfortable with a large wardrobe and tea/coffee making facilities. The bathroom was small and I'm not sure if it was just a problem during our visit but the hot water was absolutely boiling! I had to have the shower on the lowest setting and... More

We had two rooms here last week. Clean, beautifully decorated, excellent breakfast and service! Within walking distance of Edinburgh Castle and the Royal mile. The boys had the family room which was very comfortable for them. My husband and I had a comfortable, but small, double room. Breakfast was a full Scottish breakfast with haggis (you MUST HAVE HAGGIS!!), black pudding,... More

Stayed here for a weekend after a Conference. It was a pleasant change to the noisy area in the Grassmarket. Stayed here last spring. Enjoyed the service and location and chose to stay here again about a year and a half later. Same great service, clean room, good breakfast and dinner in the on-site restaurant. They even left a "welcome back" note and chocolates on the bed for our last night! We stayed at the Edinburgh city hotel. Very friendly staff and very helpful. Rooms are a bit small though but also very close to the city centre for food and shopping. But still a very nice place to stay for a few days also a stones throw from Edinburgh Castle

Very friendly staff, nothing too much trouble. We managed to park in the hotel car park though there was limited parking. Lovely food. Good location and in walking distance to most attractions. We used the tour buses as this was an easy way to see all the sites.

Staying in Southside & Holyrood

Neighborhood Profile
Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighborhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.
