I booked this hotel in September 2016 with a trip planned to celebrate my 50th Birthday in January 2017. By chance I checked the website a week before our trip to find that the Roxburghe Hotel is under complete refurbishment...... no e-mail or telephone call to inform us. All the treats my husband had booked such as champagne afternoon tea...

The room itself (a twin) was absolutely lovely and the day reception staff lovely....BUT the pool, sauna and steam room are well overdue a facelift...the gym also a bit sad...the treadmill had definitely seen better days, the main issue was the lounge bar, at 10:55pm we asked for a nightcap, only to endure an umming & awwing between 2 staff...

The hotel offers good quality accommodation, clean rooms and good service. The staff were great and couldn't be more helpful. At the time we stayed they were carrying out improvements and I think we didn't get to see he beat of it with no restaurant and limited breakfasts. The location is great for getting around. Would stay here again.

This was a great spot to watch the New Year in. Right in the centre with easy access to everything. A fairly large hotel but good luxurious clean furnishings and friendly staff. The breakfast was brilliant.

Fine luxury hotel, well located for Princes Street and the city centre. We were there for New Year 2017 and the prices were virtually double the norm, which I think was a rip-off, but, otherwise, we were very happy with the hotel. Very good breakfast included in our, expensive, rate.

I booked a room for two nights through a third party for last week. I chose the hotel because of the upgrading work and because it had a good restaurant and nice bar thinking this would make a good start to a short break. Checked in fine and room was lovely, clean, simple decor, lovely bathroom and obviously all very...

Stayed here between Christmas and New Year and as plenty of reviews have stated it is the perfect location, for us that is all we wanted. The reception and ground floor of the hotel are well decorated and check in was easy. Our room was on the top floor and although a little dated and in need of a fresh...

We spent 4 days at the Roxburghe during the Hogmanay New Year celebration. The accommodations were excellent and the location was perfect. We were able to easily walk everywhere. Rose Street right next to the hotel was a favorite spot. Parking was challenging and was not available for us as it was full. We had to park a distance from...

We stayed for 4 nights between Christmas and New Year. Upon arrival we were allocated a refurbished suite 241 (possibly upgraded from our junior suite booking as it was much bigger and styled differently than anticipated from the website) in the older part of the hotel. The suite was beautiful, large, oval shaped with original features - fireplace, curved doors,...

We stayed at the Roxburghe hotel for 3 nights at the beginning of January and overall had a lovely stay. Our room was beautiful and loved the mixture of modern decor with antique furniture. I have never seen a bed with so many extra pillows and cushions! There is a lovely little hotel bar which we visited too. The location...

Staying in New Town

Neighborhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighborhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Roxburghe Hotel is currently undergoing a top-to-toe refurbishment. More than 100 of our bedrooms and suites have already been given a smart, new look - and it's these rooms that guests will stay in when they book accommodation. For the next couple of months, we'll be tackling many of the ground-floor spaces, including the hotel restaurant and bar. Whilst these are closed, we will serve a complimentary breakfast as room service or take-away from the lobby until the end of March 2017; dinner will be served in the lounge area and also available as room service. Travel in style and stay in The Roxburghe Hotel in the heart of Edinburgh city center. The hotel rewards its guests with an unrivaled location on historic Charlotte Square. This premier 4 star hotel has recently refurbished its meeting space, public areas and all 198 bedrooms, many with views of Edinburgh Castle. Ideally located between George Street, the stylish home of the cities top bars, restaurants and boutique shops and Rose Street with more traditional pubs and eateries. ... more   less
