Perfectly located, right between George St. and Rose St., this hotel has offered to us a wonderful stay in Edinburgh. The refurbished rooms are superb, impeccably clean, with beautiful furniture, huge LED TV's, marvellous bathrooms and fantastic beds. Because the hotel is still under substantial refurbishing works, it was quite difficult to reach the rooms and the breakfast room, but...

Spent a weekend here in May. I booked through booking.com and wasn't informed by them or the hotel that the Roxburghe was undergoing a huge refurbishment. However after reading the trip advisor reviews the day before travelling, we decided to give it a go. The location is superb with lots to do and see within easy walking distance. The front...

The hotel is in the new town but access to the whole town is easy walking distance. They are still working on reconstruction so it's a windy road to your room but a great room! Beautifully decorated, roomy and new. Restaurant very nice with a wonderful international staff. Especially cordial is Danena, the morning greeter! You learn short cuts to...

Stayed at the Roxburghe for a long weekend. When I arrived I discovered that they had damn scaffolding all round the building. I arrived early and they kindly stored my luggage for me whilst I went into town. They telephoned me to say that the room was ready about 12:30. When I got back to the hotel the concierge took...

I spent one night at The Roxburghe Hotel. It is currently under a sea of scaffolding and easy to walk past, as I did. It's position in the city is very good; overlooking Charlotte Square, with the castle and tourist bits on one side and the excellent shopping and restaurants of Edinburgh on the other. I was greeted by very...

What can i say about this hotel. Apart from it having a serious facelift. Nothing bad. Now to be honest if I had known that building work was being done i may not have booked, but I am glad i did. I am currently staying there and what work has been done it is beautiful. Our room is excellent, big...

we went here 2 weeks ago for my husbands 40th Birthday and I must say it was an excellent hotel. The reception staff and concierges were very polite and very helpful and friendly. The room was gorgeous clean bright and spacious . The only minor fault was the safe not being bolted to anything could be easy for any would...

I have stayed here twice before. The website does warn of on-going refurbishment and lack of wheel chair access. This actually meant that from the temporary lobby to our room was through a door, up on storey in a lift, up a couple of stairs, through another door, a few more stairs, past the abandoned luggage trolley, down a corridor,...

We stayed just one night and were enchanted by the friendly and most helpful staff. On arrival the car parking was hard to locate so we called the hotel and one of the concierges came and found us and guided us to the hotel car park. He was most charming along with all the staff we encountered. There is a...

Really nice spacious room nicely furnished great shower. Great leisure facilities nice pool and steam room and sauna. Very pleasant breakfast with a good selection of very good food. The only down side was the hotel was totally covered with scaffold while some work is taking place which meant we could not eat in the restaurant in the evening but...

Staying in New Town

Neighborhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighborhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Roxburghe Hotel is currently undergoing a top-to-toe refurbishment. More than 100 of our bedrooms and suites have already been given a smart, new look - and it's these rooms that guests will stay in when they book accommodation. For the next couple of months, we'll be tackling many of the ground-floor spaces, including the hotel restaurant and bar. Whilst these are closed, we will serve a complimentary breakfast as room service or take-away from the lobby until the end of March 2017; dinner will be served in the lounge area and also available as room service. Travel in style and stay in The Roxburghe Hotel in the heart of Edinburgh city center. The hotel rewards its guests with an unrivaled location on historic Charlotte Square. This premier 4 star hotel has recently refurbished its meeting space, public areas and all 198 bedrooms, many with views of Edinburgh Castle. Ideally located between George Street, the stylish home of the cities top bars, restaurants and boutique shops and Rose Street with more traditional pubs and eateries. ... more   less
