Brooks Hotel Edinburgh, while praised for its cleanliness and convenient central location by some guests, often falls short of expectations in terms of atmosphere and room quality. Numerous travelers have called out the hotel's outdated vibe and mismatched furniture, suggesting a strong need for refurbishments. Service at the hotel garners mixed reviews, with instances of friendliness marred by under-staffing and unresponsive incidents. Although the breakfast earns positive remarks, the overall value for money is questioned by many guests, who point to overpricing and additional hidden costs.

This is the second time we have stayed at the Brookes Hotel, on both occasions for the Six Nations. We flew into Edinburgh airport landing at around 10am, we purchased tram tickets in the airport not at the tram stop it just speeded the process up. The tram ride is about 30 minutes max and only £9 per person return, get off at Haymarket Station the hotel is a short easy walk away. When we arrived our room wasn’t ready but the the friendly staff took our cases and stored them until later. We had a King Size room which was plenty big enough for our three night stay. We had a couple of little issues with the room which were quickly addressed by the staff. Our room included breakfast which consisted of the usual cereals, yogurts, fruits and juices. The hotel offers a selection of cooked options which were very nice, the full Scottish was very tasty especially the spicy Haggis slice. The breakfast included in the room price is good but I don’t think I would pay as an extra as I think a little expensive for what you get. The hotel has a nice lounge area with a well stocked honesty bar and nice warm fire. The hotel is in an ideal location for trains, trams, buses and a short walk to lots of bars and restaurants. When we stayed as per a few other reviews the lift was out of order but it didn’t cause us any problems. There are areas in the hotel which are in need of improvement but on the whole it’s a decent place to stay.

We stayed as a family (one of the family is a disabled person, and one child) in the ground floor 4 poster room.
Fabulous stay, room was clean and well appointed and the bed was amazingly comfortable. There is a small room off the main bedroom with bunk beds and our son said the beds were also very comfortable.
The room was faultless, really spacious.
Check in was easy and COVID safe
Breakfast was included, great choice and really tasty
Staff were friendly and helpful
We took an Uber to George street and it was £11
For able bodied guests it would only be about a 20 min walk
We will definitely be planning a visit to this hotel again

The staff were very friendly and helpful throughout which made our stay a more pleasant one, however the interior of the hotel (particularly the stair wells) were in desperate need of a refresh.

The rooms themselves looked nice, but on closer inspection there were some stains on the sheets and the bed sagged on one side at the end as if the springs had gone.

We had afternoon tea when we arrived which was disappointing. The sandwiches were not freshly made and tasted like they had been out for a while. The cake element tasted quite cheap and dry. However breakfast the next morning was much more appetising.

The hotel is well situated close to Haymarket and only 10 to 20 minutes easy walking to Waverley so we liked the location.

Upon arrival the staff were welcoming and friendly. The room was smaller than expected.Me and my partner found the bed was uncomfortable and bedding quality was poor. We stayed for three nights and were really impressed with the shower and breakfast that was delivered to our room apart from on the second day when for some reason the breakfast basket came in abit of a mess with a few things missing. Close by to convient places.

Stayed here with my daughter aged ten, son and his girlfriend . Two double rooms including breakfast £89. £15 for parking. The rooms are beautiful and the bed was super comfy. It’s within 10 min walk to princess street and approx £7 for a taxi. There is a Tesco nearby for anything your son and his girlfriend have forgotten to pack ( deodorant) !!! No cooked breakfast at the moment but that was fine we had a lovely hamper delivered at the time of our choice. We selected what we wanted the night before and we were so pleased with breakfast . The pastries were fresh and warm and the honey yoghurt granola was so nice. Fresh bottles of milk and orange juice accompanied cereal and fruit. Have booked to stay here again in September. The bar is an unmanned help your self and leave you name room number and what you had. It’s well stocked and clean. The staff were fantastic all adhering to covid 19 rules and very helpful. Excellent value for money.

We had a great weekend In Edinburgh staying at the Brooks Hotel.

The hotel was great and really welcoming. We had a deal with afternoon tea and bed and breakfast.

The hotel was in good condition and whilst being a great mix of traditional and modern. It was well maintained and the room was clean and a good size.

The afternoon tea was great value and very tasty with home cooked sandwiches and cakes and of course lovely scones.

There is an honesty bar with a good selection of drinks in the fridges and the staff were always on hand to help with whatever they could.

It was a 10 minute walk to the end of Princes Street and easy to get around from a quit base of the hotel.

The breakfast was excellent with lots of coffee and toast to accompany the well delivered Scottish breakfast. One of us had the eggs benedict and it looked amazing.

Great place to stay and we will return at some point again.

The stay set us up well for a walk up Arthur’s Seat on the Sunday - which was amazing when we reached the summit.

Thanks.

This is an amazing hotel, the staff are so lovely and honestly go above and beyond! We recently (December 2019) had a smallish wedding in Edinburgh and our wedding party of 34 all stayed here with us. We were welcomed to our room with chocolate strawberries, roses, Prosecco and candles which really blew us away!! The day before we all met up and had afternoon tea in the gorgeous lounge together before heading to the Christmas markets - they catered well for fussy eaters, vegetarian and vegan guests! On the morning of the wedding we ( bridesmaids and mums and me ) took over the private dining room, having breakfast here and getting ready with a few Proseccos! The staff were always on hand ensuring the groom was kept out of the way and later on they also provided the most perfect lunch to keep us going! We got married at the castle and We went to Ishka restaurant for our perfect wedding breakfast (amazing place also!) however after the wedding we returned to the hotel and chilled in the lounge, making the most of the cosy atmosphere and honestly bar. It is honestly the perfect setting for a small, intimate wedding and I would do it all over again if I could!! All our guests loved the hotel too and are planning to return next year!! Thank you so much Brooks hotel you were perfect!! ❤️

Upon arriving at the hotel, we were greeted by a professionally dressed receptionist whom I mistook for a manager. She was friendly and welcomed us.
After attempting to check in, we were told that we did not infact have a booking with them that day, as it was booked for the following month. I find that hard to believe as a family member had contacted the hotel a week before via telephone and confirmed the change of date and time. The fact that this was not then logged onto the system shows a lack of organisation and staff training. The staff member taking the call mentioned seeing us the following Tuesday after the date was rectified, This to me suggests that the date was confirmed for September NOT October.
This small error almost left us without a room for the night. Having checked the online booking system we were offered a room after an apparent cancellation as all the rooms were supposedly occupied. We were however told that the date we arrived was the only date available to stay until March 2022, when the voucher expired.
After the rather stressful check in, we proceeded to our room on the 3rd floor.
Having booked a King Room, we were greeted with 2 singles, not ideal for a young couples night away.
We were invited to Afternoon Tea which happened to be included in the stay.
We arrived to a room lacking any sort of atmosphere, even the lure of a scrabble board didn't really make the experience worth while. As other guests were silently somewhat enjoying their afternoon tea we felt rather odd smiling in that room and felt we had aged 50years. The small mediocre selection of afternoon tea was disappointing more so because the bottle of wine we were promised was unfortunately no where in sight, that would of greatly helped us through the awkward ordeal.
The facilities in the room were basic. The lamp was broken and so was part of the shower. Again just not the best.

I would not choose to stay here again.

We booked a three night stay here through Travelzoo which included afternoon tea and a bottle of Prosecco. We were offered the afternoon tea immediately on arrival along with the Prosecco if we wanted to take it then. Fantastic service which was gratefully accepted! Every aspect of the hotel pleased us especially the staff members who were all friendly and professional. The star of the show though was Jose who worked in the restaurant, she was attentive, polite, cheerful and always had a joke to share – a real star! We had a four poster room which was the most comfortable bed that I have slept on in a very long time. The shower room wasn’t the largest but was comfortable enough and was kept perfectly clean. My only slight criticism would be the location, being a 20 minute stroll from the main activities in Edinburgh which may be difficult for anyone with mobility issues. All in all we had a fantastic stay and hope to return at some point in the future.

My sons bought me a Wowcher stay at this hotel as a birthday gift as they know how much I love Edinburgh. I booked for a weekend stay and also a compact double room for my son and his girlfriend.
On arrival we were checked in early and then went to have afternoon tea which was included in the wowcher deal with a bottle of prosecco. We enjoyed the tea in the lovely courtyard outside but weren't offered the wine or prosecco.
The rooms we found to be comfortable but lacking the boutique feel and a bit worn in areas( net curtain hanging down, marks on bedding and no complimentary toiletries in our twin room)but beds were comfortable, shower was good and the room quiet so had a great night's sleep.
Breakfast was in the dining area and included in the price. Selection was good and staff very attentive and friendly.
Location wise Brooks Hotel wasn't as central as where i would normally stay but still within a reasonable walking distance , although a trek if you walk everywhere like we did!
The disappointment for me with this hotel is the fact we were charged an extra £70 supplement bringing the wowcher deal to £219 this was purely because it was a wowcher and not because it was a weekend as there was no supplement on my sons room. For me this defeats the object of the deal as you're paying nearly half again!
Also I asked about the prosecco we didn't receive and was told we would be given it when we collected our luggage, needless to say
We were given nothing.
Overall lovely staff, could be a lovely hotel if spruced up and cut the ridiculous supplements.

I could not give you any recommendations of any rooms in this dreadful hotel. Beds are very old and stained, bathrooms dirty and public areas are poorly furnished with old collapsing sofas.

I believe they do! They have a wheelchair ramp coming in the door. They also have ground floor rooms. They’re doors are very wide. I would always double check with the staff of course. They’re very friendly.
