Hotel is ok but be aware that in order to enter you will have to fight your way past smokers standing at the front door. Toilets on first floor are like poor public ones and were dirty. The bar seemed to be a meeting place for large groups of teenagers who were running around. So whilst the view is fantastic...

The location is very good. Right on princes street. However, that does mean it's a bit noisy with the windows open . Lovely views of Scott monument and the castle plus the gardens too, My room was small for a double with little space. However, I was only awake in the the room for about an hour so no big...

Visited here on a two night short break with my sister. The location of the hotel is hard to beat as it is directly above M&S and Jenners. It is also a short walk to Waverley Station and City Sightseeing buses are a two minute walk from hotel. Our twin room overlooked the fire escape however the room was an...

We travelled up to Edinburgh by train and the hotel was just a few minutes walk from the station. The room was a little tight for space but the bed was very large and very comfortable. We were in a room that had the lovely views of the castle and gardens so it compensated for the lack of space in...

We paid for a premium room on the 7th floor with a balcony to view the Gumball 3000 rally recently. It was rather expensive, but worth it for a treat, however the main entrance and reception of the hotel could do with an upgrade, particularly the toilets. The staff were very friendly and helpful to us, and of course the...

We had made a reservation for afternoon tea and on arrival were shown to a nicely set table by the window with spectacular views of Edinburgh Castle and the Scott Monument. The afternoon tea itself was pretty standard fare with a variety of finger sandwiches, scones with cream & jam and various sweet pastries. We were also offered free refills...

Staying in Princes Street and Gardens

Neighborhood Profile
Princes Street and Gardens
Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street is only half one, since buildings only line one side. But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views are from Princes Street as a result. From here you look onto expansive and decorative public gardens beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look the other way, as they’re concerned with chain store shopping or catching the tram or a train at main train station Waverley. But it’s not all utility here; the Scottish National Gallery rewards purposeless wandering, and December’s huge winter market in the gardens begins a season of revelry which ends with Hogmanay, Britain’s largest New Year’s street party.
