The view from this hotel from the main restaurant is spectacular. We had breakfast and dinner here and both meals were great. The disappointing aspects of this hotel are. Difficult to access and the carpark located at Waverly station is a good 20 minute walk away. Not an easy walk either. Parking costs 19 pound. Rooms are a little dated... More

Hotel is very conveniently placed and ideal base for sight seeing / shopping. The weather wasn't very kind to us so spent some time in the restaurant enjoying a nice meal and afternoon tea watching the world go by beneath us. Good views from the public rooms and bedrooms . The hotel staff are friendly and welcoming but the rooms... More

Used the Mercure to stop over to catch a train back to London the next day so a brief stay. The room was warm and comfortable if a little tired. Good wifi, comfortable bed, tending to the firm which I prefer. The tea/coffee offering was a little light but decent. We got back to the room quite late so weren't... More

Spent one night here, easy to get to from the airport, via the tram and close to Waverley Station. Nice quiet room - at the rear of the hotel, Ate in the restaurant with a view over to the castle. Food and service very good. Breakfast offered plenty of choice. Would stay here again.

A group of 6 of us stayed at the hotel for one night at the end of another holiday. As the hotel used for the rest of the holiday was disappointing we were all absolutely delighted to stay at the Mercure. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, the food was superb and the location outstanding (if you ask for... More

We arranged to meet friends there for coffee. What a shabby and poor place. The reception was jammed and the resteraunt seemed to think it was unusual for people to stop by for coffee at 11 in the morning. The tables were dirty and the chairs well passed their sell by date. The carpets Were old and worn and it... More

This hotel is in a very convenient place and I have no issues with the cleanliness of the rooms but it is well past it's sell by date. The rooms and common parts need a thorough refresh with replacement fixtures and fittings. If possible consideration should be given to installation of air conditioning as the rooms were hot and stuffy... More

This hotel is situated in the heart of Edinburgh has fab views at the front but be aware that the Edinburgh gets up early!! The breakfast was fantastic buffet style and was all warm and refreshed when needed!! The bar staff are v friendly and will make you feel very at home. Rooms were fine and beds very comfortable.

This hotel is in a prime location. Princes Street is the busiest street so very hand to Royal Mile, castles, restaurants and shopping.. Staff were friendly and helpful.Rooms are fairly small but no smaller than most Scotland hotels and B & B's. would stay here anytime.

Staying in Princes Street and Gardens

Neighborhood Profile
Princes Street and Gardens
Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street is only half one, since buildings only line one side. But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views are from Princes Street as a result. From here you look onto expansive and decorative public gardens beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look the other way, as they’re concerned with chain store shopping or catching the tram or a train at main train station Waverley. But it’s not all utility here; the Scottish National Gallery rewards purposeless wandering, and December’s huge winter market in the gardens begins a season of revelry which ends with Hogmanay, Britain’s largest New Year’s street party.
