The hotel is nice, service decent, rooms clean and tidy and location is great. It's very handy for the train station. I would add the concierge is a real gent, friendly straight forward advice ( best one so far in Edinburgh) . The menu for the hide bar is limited, and we didn't end up in the hide bar, but in another function room as it was closed, so not 100% but as mentioned it's a great hotel. If you can get the hotel at the right price is great.

Central location, great staff and a gorgeous, spacious bedroom with a super-king bed (we stayed in a deluxe double). Unfortunately our stay was let down by the tiny bathroom and very limited on site dining options (presumably impacted by covid).

I booked to stay at the Scotsman for a birthday weekend for my partner, having seen great photos online of the spa and pool area. We arrived and it’s clear the hotel has gone through a refurbishment since I last visited, however very disappointing to still see the pool photos advertised online only to arrive here and be told the pool hasn’t been here for the last 6-years. This has surely got to be false advertising. After a five hour drive to get here and my wallet £483 lighter, the only word I can use to describe this hotel is… disappointing! Staff are very pleasant and this is no reflection on them, however for the price I just cannot see how these prices are justified.

I stayed here for a night early May. Given that lockdown restrictions were easing we were eager to go for a night away and this hotel seemed like the perfect location. We arrived around 30 minutes before check in and were told the room wasn’t ready so to leave our bags in the lobby and we would receive a phone when the room was ready ... we went to the loo on the ground floor then walked back up to the lobby around 10 minutes later and our bags are just sat there not moved and anyone could have taken them. Upon questioning it, they said our room might be ready soon so they were leaving the bags there till they knew (seemed like they’d forgotten). Never received call that room was ready. I had booked a package that offered a room upgrade subject to availability, Prosecco, a late checkout and discount on food. Room upgrade wasn’t acknowledged at all nor was late checkout; I was told we had to check out at 11. I didn’t get offered my discount on room service and they messed up the order (this was obviously a kitchen error as the man on the phone read back the correct order to me) the additional time waiting for my correct evening meal meant we missed enjoying a drink out because of the curfew. At checkout they told us and some other guests to sit down and wait as the front desk was busy and we would be seen to shortly. However, more guests came after us and were dealt with sooner. An in room checkout on the tv or online checkout would have been much easier - this checkout method seemed outdated. The rooms are nice as are the bathrooms albeit room had a bedside lamp with bulb that didn’t work and shower door needed fixing as it seemed to have dropped slightly on hinges and could pose a safety risk as it is glass and was extremely hard to open and close. Looking back I’m not sure if it was worth 225 pounds, I probably should have spent slightly more and stayed at the Waldorf or Balmoral as they seem more luxurious and have amenities such as pool and spa to enjoy.

Stayed Wednesday to Wednesday, both business (meeting) and holiday break, after months in some kind ofC19 "house arrest" and increased work duties for us both, we stayed a break, anyway enough of our story, The stay was again very good, with a great breakfast and very good service, attentive but not rushed even when the staff were busy. Thanks,( hope you enjoyed your Wednesday off) Also thank to Christopher on reception ( the IT Whiz) for sorting the booking to Holyrood, we had a great visit. The wine and choices on arrival were appreciated, and the room service meals were good too, only downside was that the cafe/resturant attached was not open yet, but will be soon, we had a few good meals there pre C19 but the Hotel was coping well with the restrictions , plenty of hand disinfection stations. The location could not be better for the city, we could easily visit city centre attractions and return to our room for coffee before visiting the next, be warned, many attractions require prebooking but as stated, the reception staff can help with many of those. Thanks for a great stay.
