Right across from the train station (for my train traveling friends) and adjacent to the Royal Mile. Only a short walk to the Edinburgh Castle. The room was clean and spacious. Lots of dining and entertainment options nearby. If going to Edinburgh again, I would stay here.

Having read some of the negative reviews I was dubious about staying here. We need not have worried it is a lovely hotel. Our suite was amazing everything you could wish for in a stay. The staff can’t do enough for you and are very friendly, we didn’t eat at the hotel or had breakfast so I can’t comment on the food, but we did drink in the bar a few times and the staff there were very friendly. Never been to Edinburgh before but me and my hubby have had an amazing few days. We would highly recommend this hotel and we will be back again!!

Good hotel well-equipped with lots of hotel amenities and toiletries. Hotel breakfast buffet was also very good. However my partner and I have much difficulties locating the hotel even though it was just across the street from the train station. Signs were not clear and no one picked up the phone when we called. Turned out that there was only one person manning the reception counter and everyone was waiting to check-in. We were also allocated a room which was near the kitchen and smell wafted out of the backdoor the whole time and it was off-putting. The noise from the kitchen was also loud and distracting. For the price that we paid, we were hoping to receive a 5-star treatment but we probably received a 3-star treatment at best. If you are looking for a hotel at a convenient location, Scotsman is an ideal place but you probably can find a better value for money accommodation elsewhere.

I stayed here in April and most appreciated the location and the 24 hour complimentary hot chocolate bar in the lobby. Although there is an abundance of construction in Edinburgh, I was able to get past it easily. The entire staff deserves 100 stars for their kindness and warmth. I would easily recommend this hotel to anyone.

The Scotsman is a grand hotel in the classic sense. Our stay was marred by a couple of mishaps but on the whole it was fine. Our room on the second floor was adequate and we enjoyed our stay. We did have to request room refreshing and changing of sheets etc. it was poor for such an expensive and illustrious hotel to neglect house keeping. The breakfast was good and we did not use the alternative menu that some guests were offered but we had no complaints the food was great. We even used the in-house cinema which is a wonderful experience in a hotel. The majority of the staff were surly but on the last day a fine gentleman helped us to the train station with our bags. Overall the experience was positive and we would stay here again but next time we would ask for a room on a higher floor and give the gran cafe a wide berth because our food arrived cold which is a shame.

After a mix up with the apartment we were meant to be staying in, we ended up at the Scotsman- Michael (General Manager) went above and beyond to sort us out- he arranged hotel rooms for 2 couples, sorted us out with drinks and food. The room one couple got was absolutely gorgeous, a feature room, the room we had the 2nd night was not of the same standard but beautiful and comfortable nevertheless- we were slightly jealous!! The staff in the Grand cafe on the Friday night were professional, friendly and very helpful. Michael saved what could of been a disasterous weekend and made it something special. - so thank you so much Hopefully we will be back

Lovely room. Communication dreadful . First night -our anniversary - service very slow in grand cafe - prawns over cooked in starter-main inedible and sent back - by this time too late and so we had a platter of cheese for our anniversary meal - charged for wine - apology but no proper follow up and cafe half empty .2 others we know of complained . Following morning we went to breakfast expecting the menu we had seen online of eggs Benedict etc not offered but we were showed a very substantial buffet which was good . However we became aware of someone ordering from the additional menu and when my husband enquired he was told well we don’t tell people about this or hand it out as if everyone wanted it we couldn’t cope !!! Unbelievable - either it’s available to all or should be totally removed . We asked for the hotel manger repeatedly over the next 24 hours - receptionists said they had passed on messages and we witnessed them trying to call him . We finally spoke to him after our second breakfast when we asked for and were given the additional menu - and explained that our anger had grown because of o lack of communication and that he has not contacted us - he claimed to know nothing about this and that a physical version of the additional breakfast option was not available ( I left one for him when we left) but did apologise , say he was new and trying to sort out some issues and did refund part of our stay . It is such a shame as the hotel is lovely and in a great position so we do hope this new manager can pull it all together .

My friend and I were off to the ballet and had an hour to space for dinner. We wanted to try the Scotsman Brasserie, and had a glass of wine and their fish and chips. When the came, which was exceptionally quick, the chips were so thin and black and crispy, and cold, that we weren’t sure if this was the look they were going for or not. They were fries rather than chips - my pet hate! The fish was tiny. The whole plate was not enjoyable. As we were running late, my friend didn’t want to have them changed, but when we noticed other diners chips/fries, they were lovely and golden. Very upset. Won’t go back. I’m amazed that the kitchen actually used these old chips for customers

2nd time at this hotel in past year. Room 702, freezing cold. Heating doesn't work, window broken so doesn't close, rattled all night with the high winds up there. Couldn't have our cplimentary whisky tipple, as not in the room. It was late at night so didn't want to bother them but did report it the next morning. No apology! Just a thanks for reporting it and " that's you all checked out" I don't expect a money off next stay but an apology for the inconvenience and freezing nights stay would have been something. We'll it looks like I'll be staying elsewhere on my next trip.
