Norton House Hotel & Spa stands out for its spa and picturesque grounds, with guests often commending the hotel's tranquil and well-maintained amenities. While the rooms earn praise for their cleanliness, spaciousness, and modern furnishings, some guests feel that the overall experience doesn't justify the premium pricing, particularly noting the cost of meals and drinks. Service experiences have been mixed, with reports of both friendly, professional staff and occasional lapses in service efficiency. The inviting atmosphere and comfortable setting, however, consistently receive positive remarks from visitors.

I have been to a few spas and recently attended norton house spa and they really stood out from the rest. The entrance was welcoming and whilst i was filling out my consultation form, we had pastrys and drinks , due to a coffee morning.this was lovely and helped begin the day of relaxation. The staff i encountered were all friendly and explained the day. Me and my friend were then given a tour of the facilities, i appreciated this. I am someone with anxiety , so can get overwhelmed - this simple tour meant i knew what to expect and was instantly at ease ! I have friends who are neurodivergent and would recommend Norton house spa to them as the staff are patient , everything is explained and its a very chilled sensory experience ( even before a treatment). my treatment was with Elaine , who again explained everything and i have had many massages but this stood out.in terms of pressure , technique and products used, Elaine was amazing, i truly switched off and that night had the best sleep ever. Afterwards , another staff member , i forgot her name ( sorry ) helped me choose my products and was so friendly and approachable. The staff in the spa all seem happy at what they do, really represent norton house well and are a credit to their management. After my treatment , i had some time in the relaxation room, i'd hire that place for naps if i could ! then it was time for afternoon tea , i have a strawberry allergy and they were so acommodating . Allergies can sometimes feel a burden but its the first time i've not had any issues. then we got some time for the hydro pool, shower experience ( loved the lights) and sauna/ steam room. Overall a day well spent , nothing was rushed and the first spa day i have felt managed to focus on mind, body and soul. Norton House Spa also stood out from the rest by being a luxurious treat , without pretentious snobbery. I think sometimes spas can be intimidating or feel " posh " but Norton house spa gets the balance perfect in being a luxurious treat but one that is accesiible to all. It is like having the best spa day of your life , whilst feeling in a safe , friendly space with friends.

Stayed over at this fantastic hotel, for the first, time to attend an evening wedding party and we were genuinely gutted at having to leave. Were able to check into our Room (304) early which was a real bonus and allowed us to take advantage of the excellent Health Club and Spa facilities. Our room itself was absolutely spotless with every facility we could have asked for. Didn't have dinner in the hotel, but the breakfast in the morning was fantastic, and easily the best slice of Black Pudding I've ever eaten The wedding party was such good fun at night too. The food for it was spot on, and there never felt like a long wait to get served for a drink. Had one last visit to the Spa after checking out. Wouldn't hesitate to return here.

Overall a very good stay. We stayed in the Edinburgh Suite which is in the west wing (newer part) of the hotel. Separate shower which was very good with excellent water pressure, comfortable beds and a lovely seating area. 2 issues with the suite: The safe is at floor level which makes it very difficult to use for us older guests. I had to lie down on the floor to see the numbers and to open and close it! The suite lighting system was a bit hit and miss and rather difficult to use - what happened to good old fashioned switches / dimmers? Staff were all very helpful and pleasant. We were helped with our luggage promptly, reception ladies were excellent, bar and restaurant staff were also very good and the spa manicure lady super. We only stayed for 1 night prior to a flight out of the nearby airport and will definitely use the hotel again when we have early flights.

We had our daughter's wedding at Norton House Hotel. All staff were absolutely amazing: knowledgeable, friendly and extremely helpful. We were aiming to host a British-Nigerian fusion wedding and also hosted a dinner for 26 people the evening before. Kayleigh was brilliant in the run up to the event always answering any queries very quickly avoiding any anxious moments. Jillian was also brilliant on the run up to and during the event and helped to make the day work smoothly. We ended up with a wedding that all of our guests enjoyed as a result of their hard work and they both remained cheerful throughout. Wicky was also amazing when we were hosting the dinner the evening before. All of the food from breakfast through to lunch and dinner, the wedding menus and the evening buffet was extremely well prepared and presented. All of the staff we met were extremely well trained and friendly which shows a pride in the hotel and the services it offers that I haven't experienced before. We were so comfortable that we didn't want to leave! Everything was spotlessly clean, the bar and restaurant area are very comfortable, the rooms are spacious and well-equipped and the pool and spa area are lovely. Thank you to everyone.

Absolutely stunning hotel. The rooms are lovely and well equipped. Fridge with water and milk. Coffee machine and lots of teas and biscuits etc. Hairdryer and iron and board. Bathrobes and slippers. Lovely products in the bathroom including a tv to watch whilst in the bath. Separate shower with rainfall head. Comfy bed and lots of storage space. The spa is lovely. Fresh towels and robes. 18 m pool , sauna and steam room and hot tub area. Staff are so friendly. Sheena and Kirk were fantastic. Nothing was too much trouble. They have welly’s in all Sizes so you can go a nice walk. Shuttle bus takes you to the tram stop to get to the city centre. The breakfast is incredible, lots of choice and high quality as is the food in the restaurant. Would highly recommend

Went to the Norton House Hotel for cake & coffee & was very disappointed at the slow service. On arrival we stood not knowing if we just went & got a table & despite a staff member seeing us & walking past us without talking, we took a seat ourselves. Waited nearly 10 minutes with several staff making eye contact with us but not acknowledging we were still to be served. I then went up to order & a staff member said did we wish to order! Said I was pretty disappointed & her reply was sorry we are busy! I agreed but said it would have been nice to be told you would be with us soon. Food once it came was lovely. After paying & then looked at my receipt noticed there was a 12.5% service charge which was apparently discretionary but was not told by tapping my visa debit & certainly was NOT warranted. Would not rush back & left very disappointed especially for a Hotel like that & the prices charged! 😕

Our first stay here. beautiful old building with friendly and welcoming staff on reception. Room great, no complaints. Had dinner in the restaurant which was delicious and great wine and cocktails! Use of spa included which was great. We had massages which we had issues with. Discussed the manager afterwards who agreed. We were rebooked in for the next day and the massages were with Annie who was exceptional. Best massage I've ever had. Impressed with the manager sorting this out -issues do arise but it's how they are resolved that matters. Will definitely return.

We arrived at this hotel yesterday and just want to reassure anyone put off with the recent negative reviews that this is a gorgeous hotel. Our room is beautiful. Loads of space, lovely personal touches and absolutely everything to make the stay comfortable has been thought of. The receptionist who checked us in was lovely! So helpful. We had a stressful experience that morning with a booking site and she handled it wonderfully and really did reassure us. I am currently on a lounger in the spa feeling more relaxed than I have for a long time. Gorgeous spa facilities. Steam, sauna and jacuzzi wonderful. Not busy and kid sessions are well advertised meaning you do get some quiet time if you need it. Spa staff were so friendly and welcoming. The restaurant staff were so polite and happy to help us. Our lovely waitress was so great with her recommendations (didn’t catch her name, blonde lady) even telling us her mums favourites. The lady who served our drinks with the brown hair and the lady who met us to take us to our table just so friendly. Being from the North East I really fancied the chicken burger. We were booked into the restaurant but this was no trouble. They were delighted to assist. As we left the restaurant we met with a wonderful chap who was tidying the bar area. We spoke to him for a while and enjoyed his stories. He clearly loves his job and what a credit to the hotel. Breakfast was beautiful. The healthy shot was a lot different to the usual shots I consume but what a lovely touch. Delicious. I just get the impression that all staff at this hotel want you to have a great time. We will definitely be back. It’s a new favourite! The only one negative that I must mention was the wine prices. We regularly eat out and stay at hotels and the lowest price of a bottle of red was almost £40. In my opinion this is astronomical. Other hotels normally have a bottle priced at around £23/24, we normally end up buying two (Geordies, say no more). This price just meant that we dodged the wine and instead I drank lager. Didn’t really fit with my usual meal choices but I guess I was eating the burger. Which was divine by the way! Mmmm. Dare I order it again tonight?? Thanks everyone at Norton House. You’re a lovely bunch.

There were 3 of us in our party. At breakfast, despite the waitress asking how we wanted our eggs, 2 breakfasts were served without eggs. When we requested the eggs again, they were brought 15 minutes later by which time most of the hot breakfast had been eaten. Then the waitress accidentally knocked over the turmeric shot which she used our napkin to clear up with. She spread the sticky viscous liquid all over the table and disappeared. We fully expected her to come back to clear the rest but 10 minutes later, she still had not returned. We had to ask her to clean it up as the bright yellow liquid was off-putting and also we could not use that area of the table. We were not given a replacement napkin. The waitress had removed the jam plate as it too was covered with the sticky liquid but could not be bothered bringing back a new plate of jams. Yet again, we had to ask her. At no point was any apology for these various incidents proffered. We were made to feel that we were trouble-makers when all we had asked politely was to fix things that were not our fault. I have stayed in many hotels and this is the first hotel where we were treated with disdain. Another example was on our way out when we heard a waiting staff member tell a guest that smoothies were available as well as a hot breakfast buffet and a breakfast which could be offered from the menu. We were not made aware of these options and from where we were sitting, we could not see these foods available. Clearly a lack of consistency depending on which guests they served. At the previous night's dinner, our bottles of drink were cleared away without asking whether we had finished. When one of our party told them that her bottle still had quite a lot of drink left, she was told that they would supply a new one. However they managed to retrieve the original one from the bin, which they served to our party member. We were aghast at this attitude. The service was painfully slow and the dishes were lukewarm. Then they had the audacity to slap on a 12.5 % discretionary charge on top of an already overpriced menu. We asked for this to be taken off as we did not feel the food or service merited this charge. However we did leave a cash tip which did not please the waitress as she could not be bothered to hide her feelings. Well improve your service if you expect hefty tips.

We had an evening meal here. Service was very good but portions very small and I left hungry. Main course was what I would have expected in a starter. Dessert cost £10 and was devoured in 3 mouthfulls. I abhor use of discretionary service charge which is designed to embarrass you into not asking it be deducted. When you do ask, it embarrasses the waitress who assumes something was wrong with the service. A tip should be voluntarily added not have to be deducted.
