Found the place we want to be forever! A hidden gem of a hotel called Channings, nestled in the quiet of the Edinburgh suburbs, only a few minutes from the heart of the city. Step through the door and be transported to an age where the clients comfort and well being were paramount. Nothing is too much trouble here. The... More

this is a wonderful older hotel, with a wonderful breakfast, and room, the staff were great about telling us different places to go while we were there. We walked to the Royal Botanical Gardens, and back to the hotel from Edinburgh Castle, a beautiful walk. Full of great shops and restaurants.. our room was very clean and comfortable we loved it

This small, but stately hotel is located in a quiet tree-lined residential area between the Edinburgh city centre and the Royal Botanic Gardens - 15 minutes' walk to each. Channings maintains the ambiance and solid genteel character of the early 20th century when famed British explorer Sir Earnest Shackleton lived there. Our room was spacious, tastefully furnished, and sparkling clean.... More

A bit off of the beaten path, Channings is 6 100+ year old row houses converted in to a comfortable place to stay. We had a wonderful breakfast every morning down stairs in the restaurant and got drinks at the bar in the evening before turning in. Our room was very nice with a comfy king bed. The staff was... We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this charming boutique hotel in historic Edinburgh! It is reminiscent of a home away from home in a lovely neighborhood. The floor to ceiling windows with a view of the Edinburgh rooftops were a highlight. Staff was friendly and helpful, and breakfast in the conservatory was delicious.

A return visit after a 12 year absence more than lived up to expectations -all the staff I encountered were charming and engaging. The room was lovely and the neighbourhood is quiet. I thought the breakfast was really good, nice choice of juices, fresh fruits, cooked breakfast was excellent and staff were very attentive. Really good value for an Edinburgh... More

Our group booked two rooms at Channings, and we were surprised to see that both rooms had their own individual quirks. The room I was in was very large and had a large bathroom and was very nicely laid out, whereas my friends room was a little smaller, had a slightly less impressive bathroom but had an emperor sized bed... Princes Street is a bus ride away. Sadly their brasserie lacks any atmosphere although the food was acceptable and the breakfast room was more pleasant. There are however good restaurant within 10min. walking distance. The large bedroom windows overlooking a small leafy park and a good view north, let in plenty of light.

Comfortable, quiet room, if a little hot, and very comfortable bed. Excellent continental breakfast with room service. Only slight criticism was not enough/good coffee and poor selection of teas. Staff very helpful and friendly.

This hotel is well-kept. Every room we entered elicited a positive "Oh!" reaction. The staff tried to help us at every turn, even when we needed another electrical adapter to charge electronics. The beds were comfortable and generously sized with plenty of pillows. The bathroom was well-appointed and also well-stocked with fluffy white towels. As anywhere in the UK, there... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Channings in Edinburgh is an informal, relaxed hotel with a very friendly approach. It occupies five Edwardian townhouses in Stockbridge, one of Edinburgh's most popular 'urban villages'. To suit its location slightly away from the city centre, Channings is a wonderfully quirky property which feels a bit like a Scottish country home, full of charming Victorian paintings, prints, books, furniture and memorabilia that owner Peter Taylor has collected over the years. ... more   less
