Christmas lunch here is akin to living like a Scottish Lord for a few hours. Serving staff are very smart and efficient - the decor and architecture of the dining room is grand and opulent and the food - fine dining indeed. We had two turkey dinners, two salmon salad starters and whilst I had the cheese board, friend had...

We have just returned from a weekend break in Edinburgh and stayed at the Old Waverely Hotel which we thought was brilliant. You couldn't find a better location with near instant access to the main railway station, trams and opposite the stop where the 'hop on hop off' buses depart from. The bar / lounge area is comfortable, light and...

We stayed one night at the Old Waverley in a room overlooking Princes Street and the monument. From check-in to check-out the staff were excellent - friendly, efficient and helpful. The room was comfortable and well sized and we slept well. Some may find the décor a little dated, but for us it was just right - a little bit...

This hotel is perfect for a weekend, the decor is completely dated but was extremely clean, would definitely stay there again. The bed was comfortable & the staff were friendly.. We were at the front above Princes St and it wasn't noisy at all.

Superb room. I've kept the number for my next stay. Staff very friendly and helpful. Can't comment on food as dined elsewhere but if it's up to the standard of everything else it should be of a good standard and quality

Just had our second visit to this hotel.the best thing about it, is the location.set in the middle of princess street,, so all the shopping and attractions of this great city are just outside. The hotel rooms are clean and warm ,with all usual facilities. The staff are helpful and friendly. Tip. Do the city bus tour, hop on, hop...

I enjoyed my time here. It's a tourist hotel, so be prepared for a smaller room - which is just enough to relax in before you head out for adventures. I was very comfortable and liked the bathroom very much. I had a room facing Princes Street. I had breakfast in the hotel restaurant every morning and spent many hours...

Hotel is smack bang in the middle of Princes St. It couldn't be described as modern but it was comfortable enough and very good value for money. Breakfast was good with plenty choice. You can pay a supplement of £50 for a room facing on to Princes St, we didn't but can see how it might appeal to many visitors.

A clean and central hotel which was perfect for a business trip. Rooms were compact but good wi fi and an excellent breakfast enabled us to work and relax. The bar, though small, has a good selection.

Staying in Princes Street and Gardens

Neighborhood Profile
Princes Street and Gardens
Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street is only half one, since buildings only line one side. But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views are from Princes Street as a result. From here you look onto expansive and decorative public gardens beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look the other way, as they’re concerned with chain store shopping or catching the tram or a train at main train station Waverley. But it’s not all utility here; the Scottish National Gallery rewards purposeless wandering, and December’s huge winter market in the gardens begins a season of revelry which ends with Hogmanay, Britain’s largest New Year’s street party.
