Nice hotel, pleasant staff and good accommodation. many many stairs in the hotel and got lost a few times! Got a good deal on lastminute.com and cannot complain. Bar staff was great. close to the main station and the new city.

Stayed here on a surprise trip for my 21st with my boyfriend, and had an amazing time! We arrived early before check in but were able to leave our luggage at reception, receptionist was soo lovely and even drew us really helpful directions on a map to different parts of the city we wanted to see. When we did arrive... More

Hotel is not far from all amenities although you do have a steep hill to walk to get there. Only ever met on guy at reception over the weekend and he was very helpful. Room was large and clean and bathroom was huge. The down side was there was no bar or lounge so there was no chance of meeting... More

I got a really good deal on booking.com and checked in the same day. The room had lovely high ceilings, a huge comfy bed, a wonderful comfortable and home-like layout and an amazingly modern, bright and warm bathroom with lots of toiletries. The wifi was decent too. Location-wise, it's right in New Town. It's close to tons of amazing restaurants,... More

Finally we got our room keys at 2.25pm! If we knew it was going to take that long we could've went to the bar... More

Fab hotel in the centre of Edinburgh but on a quiet street. I stayed in a single room (201) which was warm, beautifully decorated and well equipped. The en-suite was small but luxurious and there was plenty of tea/coffee stuff in the room. Free WiFi and a tv, comfy bed and really lovely staff. Two nights for £80 was a... More

It is a nice and quiet hotel 10 minutes walking from center but you have to go upwards and downwards a bit difficult for your tiered girlfriend. The breakfast was awful old eggs honey was frozen like stone nothing was fresh nothing was tasty. It's 7,5£ per person. Totally the worst part of the hotel was the breakfast. The room... More

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighborhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighborhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicenter Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
