If you're looking for a no-thrills hotel that's close to Edinburgh Waverley, the Royal Mile, and/or Princes Street, this hotel will do. Anything more than that, then I'll have to say to steer clear of here. I mean, it's not bad by any stretch of the imagination! The hotel staff are nice and knowledgable and the food is OK (breakfast... More

220 pound pr. night for a room in the "backyard" - horribel. dusty sofa, lack of towels, tight, no place for the suitcases. Never more. OK breakfast. I asked for a room big enough for my wealchair- no chanse. No use in trying to talk to the reception.

I was here for work so needed a good night's sleep. First of all it was difficult to find from the old town. There were no signs. When I arrived the reception supervisor was polite and knowledgeable. That is basically the reason for the score of 2. When getting to my room I had a poor view of bins and... More

Location excellent; overall very good; but as often in GB, fixed shower and no toilet brush in bathroom. Plastic curtain in bath tube. Restaurant good quality, but restriced choice. When windows open, loud.

Hotel ignores request for extra towels (to prop feet due to back injury). The staff's shifting of equipment in the storage area woke us up both mornings - it was very noisy by 7.15am. Would suggest some other hotels in the old town vicinity

We booked this hotel for our recent two night trip to Edinburgh, based on its location and we were not disappointed. This is the reason I have awarded four stars. The hotel is a little dated and is in need of a face-lift, however it was clean and functional; it certainly met our needs. We had booked a room with... More

Given the rate of £125 excluding breakfast I felt the room was dated but the lack of air conditioning made my night stay very uncomfortable. I came back to the hotel in the evening, however the bar was unattended & I had to go in search of a member of staff

Excellent stay, clean and friendly, in good central location for all activities, good food, had a nice room the only thing with the room there was quite a bit of noise with vans reversing and they beep when they reverse and this was early in the morning, I think we looked onto kitchens.

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
