Beautiful , quiet and relaxing atmosphere at The Bonham. About a 7 minute walk into the heart of Princess Street . The staff were very friendly and the breakfast and service was superb. We were allocated a lovely standard room on the 4th floor which had a very large bathroom with a huge bath tub/shower which was appreciated after a... More

The rooms are attractive and well kept. The hotel has a discreet, distinguished air about it and the staff are helpful and courteous. The breakfast menu offers a good range of buffet and cooked food but the kitchen does tend to overcook its poached and fried eggs, so be careful to specify if you like your eggs to be a... More

Hotel stay was excellent , large room with excellent views and welcome sweets, the hand written card was an excellent personal touch. We had a good sleep and room was quiet with a lovely surprise of a room upgrade on arrival.

Reasonably smart but pricey for its type .. A little light on the easy things that can make a nice stay .. Enough tea bags, fresh water in the room , toiletries etc Thought the price of the 'guest car park ' a bit much at £15.00 a day . Staff pleasant but nothing going out the way . No... More

The Bonham is centrally located, a short walk from the Haymarket train station (which includes a stop for the Edinburgh airport to city tram), the Princes Street and the Royal Mile. We arrived from the US on a red-eye flight and despite arriving early (before 10am), we were able to check into our room immediately, which was much appreciated as... More

The Bonham is well situated in the new town, a 10 minute walk from the west end. Our room was quiet and comfortable although it (no 5 in the basement overlooking the car park at the back of the hotel) was cold in the heart of summer.... I would suggest trying to book an upper story room although based on... More

We enjoyed the peaceful area in which the hotel is located but were easily able to reach most central attractions on foot. Our room was spacious and sunny but slightly tired, perhaps not surprising as it appears that some work is planned. One disappointment was that returning to our room after an exhausting mornings walking round Edinburgh we found that... More

In a west end location of the new town and a easy 20 minute walk to Edinburgh Castle. Nice, spacious rooms, comfortable bed and very friendly, helpful staff. Excellent breakfast. A bit expensive, though.

Our usual 4 star hotel was fully booked so we stayed 3 nights at The Bonham on a room only basis. I chose The Bonham because it said it was a "4 star luxury boutique hotel". First the positives - in the West End, reasonably central location, staff were welcoming and happy, pleasant surroundings, room was clean and tidy, etc.... More

Stayed on the last weekend of the Fringe and the room we had was nice but wasn't as nice as some other hotels that are more reasonably priced. The thing that killed it for my wife and I was the noise from the adjoining room which went on most of the night. I would not rush back as think we... More

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
