Needed to reserve a table. Had to get it right on my wife's Birthday. I did! Staff were a pleasure, waitor, head waiter and wine waitor. Food was all excellent suiting differing tastes fishy to meaty to veggie. Nice sweet too. Pricy but worth it for a special occasion.

A restaurant with a lot of character and in a fabulous location close to the castle. The service was excellent, but the food was very average and did not warrant the hefty price tag. 3 pieces of unaccompanied lemon sole cost £43 (side dishes £4-£4.25 each), £17 more than we spent on an infinitely superior lemon sole dish the previous...

How to describe the experience of staying at The Witchery Hotel... It's something to do once in a life time. The room that my girlfriend and I had totally transported us to another time. Every detail is taken care of regarding the decoration. The staff was a bit cold at the beginning but quickly became very nice. Ok, the price...

Took my girlfriend of 18 here for a Valentines Dinner, eating in the secret garden seating area around the back of the main building. I would recommend this area over the indoors if you are aiming for a romantic atmosphere. We were both genuinely surprised by how smart it was, despite already having high expectations. The service was impeccable and...

Staff amazing especially George who was our main waiter. Food was out of this world and was presented especially well. Will be back there next year for our xmas family day. Thanks to all at the restaurant staff as they were lovely and very attentive to everyone on the day. 😊

It cannot be denied that this is a beautiful dining room, however, I think the Secret Garden is better. Our meal was delicious but my steak was £45..it was an incomplete dish without much garnish and no vegetables..which we added at a further cost. Sadly our bowl of 'greens' turned out to be undercooked chewy kale. Will have to re-think...

Lovely ambiance, food delicious, great service. For mains we shared the Lamb Wellington, it was perfect. Great choice of wines, desert was decadent, loads of flavors. A really enjoyable experience. I would have no problem recommending this restaurant, go and enjoy.

The restaurant is very close to Edinburgh Castle and consequently has no car parking. To be world class the restaurant should have had valet parking. The Inner Sanctuary suite was unique and filled with interesting artefacts and antiques. The four poster bed was very comfortable; the gas fire and the classical music were welcoming, especially as it was snowing outside....

What a lovely place. Dark mysterious interior. Lovely decor. Not too large inside or too noisy. Food was delicious. Staff very attentive but not overly so. Would definitely go back. In fact looking forwards to going back.

My husband and I stopped here for a bite to eat the early hours of the evening. We were having a weekend break in Edinburgh and happened to pop in to the restaurant to see if there were any tables. We were in luck. Despite us being very under dressed (we thought we were anyway!), none of the staff made...

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
