This property is listed as a five star but falls short. The rooms are small with a cramped seating area. The room lighting is complicated with a light switches located everywhere. The mood lighting is a nice touch but how about a simple night light. Room service is hit and miss. The location is great and just a short walk... More

My GF and I stayed for 3 nights using points in a standard room. In August, one of the most popular months in Edinburgh. We really loved the location, walking distance to both West End and Old Town neighborhoods but away from the massive crowds. Don't be deceived by the boring if not prison-like exterior. Our standard room was updated... More

I am a seasoned traveler. I spend about 100 nights a year on the road for business and another 3 weeks a year traveling with my wife on vacation. This year we traveled to Edinburgh for the Royal Military Tattoo, which coincided with the Edinburgh International Arts Festival and The Fringe. Edinburgh was packed, the Sheraton was sold out and... Stayed here many times, it's our little touch of luxury for an escape from routine. Always stay at the Club rooms, they provide that extra class to make it an outstanding stay. Classy Hatfield and Club rooms

The hotel is immaculate, the staff are friendly, professional and helpful. In particular the guy who runs the One Square Bar is a seriously class act. A font of knowledge about gin in particular. With an infinity pool and spa, whats not to like.

As a solo female business traveler I could ask for nothing more from a hotel ... Easy check in, friendly staff, great location, very comfortable rooms, walking distance to everything I needed and restaurants nearby. The room I stayed in had a castle view, and a large window that opened a crack to allow the fresh air in. The bathroom... More

Expensive hotel in August due to the carnival and the executive lounge not much to offer. I recommend that an earlier booking to be made if your visit purpose for the carnival and try to get a better view for your rooms as we were charged arm and leg and we we were facing a concrete view of other rooms

I stayed here with my husband, 1 year old son, and elderly parents. The hotel is in a very central location. If you have walking problems (like my elderly parents) then you will need to take a taxi to see Edinburgh Castle, however you can mostly walk to other things. The room was great, and very well appointed and clean.... More

Liked this hotel a lot; comfortable, relaxing and great breakfasts. The location for seeing the sights, the tattoo, the festival and fringe events could hardly be bettered - everything within easy walking distance.

Thoroughly enjoyable experience. Different rooms - saunas, steam (different kinds),relaxing heated couches. Large swimming pool. A great way to have some time to yourself. The day went by so quickly. Expensive but worth the occasional treat. Was my birthday gift.

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
