Having recently stayed in a premier inn I expected a similar standard but WRONG. The staff on reception were always helpful, but everything else was dreadful. The room was large but soulless. The bathroom, especially the shower tray, was grubby. The mugs had brown tide lines in them and the quilt was badly stained as were the towels. In the... More

Excellent Travelodge. It is a Travellodge so we wen't expecting a luxurious room with room service but we can't fault what they did provide. The room was clean with no issues and was plenty big enough with a comfortable king size bed. The bathroom we had was also large and spacious with a large shower cubicle. Also our room was... More

The hotel itself is very difficult to find and not an experience I would like to go through again. No sleep until two in the morning due to loud music after 2300 hours. Add to this the breakfast being of an uncooked format in a container was shocking. The cost was excessive at over £100 and would strongly advise anybody... More

Hotel was clean enough but however although room was large bathroom was not, it would have been better to have a slightly larger bathroom door just about opened past the toilet and very small wash handbags in, also would benefit from a towel rail this would potentially help the reuse of towels. Also would prefer to have hairdryer already in... More

We stayed here one night on our short cycling holiday in Scotland. As usual there was no problem with storing our bikes in the room which is really kind of Travelodge. The rooms are small but comfy. We had a rear room which was quiet. Rose Street is not busy but there are bars and it's generally noisy

It's not the best place to stay if you want to lounge around in the room and eat big breakfast. It's ideal for somebody who wants a clean, friendly centrally located place to just sleep at night, shower in the morning. It's walking distance from the royal mile, the castle, the festival, weaverly station, tram station, shopping street. What's more... More

Stayed here for one night. Room and facilities pretty basic, however if you are only needing a base for a night or two in central Edinburgh it is more than adequate. The location couldn't really be much better for those looking to do some shopping and sight seeing with loads of bars, restaurants and shops literally on the doorstep. The... More

Fab location, friendly and efficient staff. Liked the offer of water. Shower fab, bed fab, but you cannot fault the location. As we was in third floor and windows shut we couldn't hear noise from the pubs. Would highly recommend.

This just let of the newly refurbished travelodges so bad a decent bed and is clean / freshly decorated. However, rooms are small and there's no air conditioning. Location is ideal for central Edinburgh offices is tourist spots.

Can't believe it only had a rating of 3 something. Bargain price for August, central location, lovely staff. Could not find fault. A bit of noise from outside but not massively and mainly a local pub tipping bottles in the recycling but double glazing got rid of most of it. Perfect for the fringe, great view of the fireworks just... More

Staying in New Town

Neighborhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighborhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
