The location of the Travelodge in Rose Street, Edinburgh could not be bettered by ANY central Edinburgh hotel - with any number of stars. The price was unbelievably inexpensive and everything in the room was spotless. The receptionist was very helpful about local eating places as well as other useful information about the city. If you are looking for a... More

In all respects bar one, I have to admit that this Travelodge was excellent. The room was large, very clean and tidy, extremely comfortable, was well serviced each day and was warm throughout our 7 day stay. The bathroom was clean with a shower and bath that both worked well and were also very clean. Being on the 4th floor,... More

Perfect location for visiting festival and central Edinburgh. Clean comfortable central hotel near shops restaurants and pubs, plenty street lighting and safe easy access at night. No street noise considering situation - slept peacefully in very comfortable bed.

One block back from Princes Street, this is a great location for Edinburgh sightseeing. Our room on the 4th floor was large. Pity the tv was so small in comparison. Wifi was poor. But we received a refund on our Wifi at checkout after complaining.

Right in the heart of Edinburgh city centre. Rose street is so nice. Our room was very spacious and clean with tea and coffee facilities. Emilio checked us in and he and the rest of the staff we met were very friendly. Wifi is free for the first 30minutes.

Six of us stayed here in three rooms when we went to the Fringe festival. A great central position for a hotel; easy to walk to most places and if a taxi is needed the staff on the front desk are happy to call one for you. The tram stop is close by too. Rooms are clean and functional and... More

Went for the military tattoo and it was in the perfect location. It was within walking distance of the castle, shops and restaurants even for my mum who has bad hips and had chest issues it wasn't too far out the way to get about. There was no sound from outside either considering the fringe was going off at the... More

Let's get the negatives out of the way. It is central and can be noisy at Fringe time. Our room could do with better wardrobe facilities. Positives: Every member of staff we came in contact with were helpful, courteous, well mannered. It is the people who look after a business, who manage a site that are important. Travelodge management needs... More

Staying in New Town

Neighborhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighborhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
