first time here a few weeks ago.. It is such a great place. Fab beer garden for drinks then upstairs for a beautiful meal. The food & service were both great. I will definitely be back again! Thank you

Really enjoyed our first visit to The Sheep Heid for our sons's Birthday (he has been before and recommended). The staff were very welcoming and friendly. The food was great, fantastic choice, something for everyone. We were told that the there would be a 25 minute delay due to how busy it was, did not take quite as long as... More

Haven't been for many years but went for lunch to celebrate our anniversary. We were met by the ever smiling Carolyn and made to feel welcome. Very relaxed atmosphere and although very busy the staff had plenty of time to advise when necessary. Food was delicious and the portions just right. Can highly recommend and will be back soon.

Spouse & I walked over an hour from Grassroots area to this historic pub. Had to ask directions every now and then to get there. Had to walk through part of Arthur's Seat to get there. Enjoyed the ale on tap.

Good food and drink; very nice surroundings and atmosphere; a little expensive for what you get, though. We ate on the evening of Mother's Day and they had run out of a few things and service was somewhat slow, but we just put that down to the day and time.

My first visit to the Sheep Heid Inn was over 25 years ago ... Lots of happy memories. My last visit before today was 12 months ago, for a lovely lunch. Today's visit will probably be my last visit ever. Looking for somewhere for a post cinema Sunday roast with the family, the website showed a Sunday menu showing a... More

Went along to celebrate my husbands birthday, having booked a table in the upstairs restaurant the week before. On arrival we said we had booked a table, no name asked for and taken to the back of the pub and shown a seat for two, handed menus and left to look at it. Shouted the waitress over and explained we... More

This really should be a great pub but a number of factors need to be addressed. The toilets, for example, need to be inspected a little more regularly and cleaned if necessary. In an establishment of this sort is music really necessary? If it is some attention should be paid to the tastes and needs of their customers rather than... More

Staying in Southside & Holyrood

Neighborhood Profile
Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighborhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.
