We stayed in the Duthus Lodge in Feb 2016 when we visited Edinburgh for the Six Nations rugby. Very welcoming, great hosts :), and Archie was lovely too! Room was very comfortable and had everything that we needed. The breakfast was delicious with a great selection. Great location, 10 minutes walk to Murrayfield or less than half an hour walk... Murdo provide much needed assistance for my sister and me when we found ourselves January 2nd at another B&B across the street from Duthus Lodge. I had reserved and paid for the other B&B only to find it completely closed down for the month of January. No notice nothing! Murdo welcomed us into his B&B - BEAUTIFUL and helped us... More

We loved staying at Duthus Lodge, Merdo and Kay were so very welcoming and helpful to us from the minute that we arrived until the minute that we left. The room was great had everything you could have needed. It was clean and comfortable. Our breakfast was good, and was enough there to get us set for our onward journey.... More

We stayed at Duthus Lodge during a recent visit to Edinburgh. The guest house is located in a quiet area of Edinburgh which is only a 20 minute stroll into the centre. Murdo makes sure that every aspect of your stay is what you want and need. We would have given 5 stars except for the fact that the shower... More

Murdo is a lovely host and the scottish breakfast was great. The room was small but cozy and clean. The guesthouse is located in a quite area and the bus for the airport stops just close by. Edinburgh old town can be reached by foot in around 20 minutes. Highly recommended.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 day stay in Edinburgh staying in the lovely Duthus Lodge. The lodges location makes it very handy to all the sights. The hotel was very well furnished and the rooms are very comfortable, with tea and coffee making (plus delicious biscuits) facilities- much appreciated after a long day exploring the city. The en suite bathroom... More

We stayed with Murdo and Archie at the Duthus for three nights. He is such a kind man, and we really enjoyed talking to him. He is also truly accommodating. Archie is a nice dog, and we got to walk and play with him. The rooms were large and clean, and the house is quiet. There is a lovely community... More

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
