My husband and I went to Scotland for our honeymoon and chose to stay at Hotel Du Vin for a few nights before we made our way up the coast. We were not disappointed. They upgraded us to a larger room with more amenities - like a clawfoot tub and provided us with a bottle of wine! We loved the... More

My husband and I made a last minute reservation at this hotel. It's location is perfect for most everything you would want to do. The hotel itself is lovely- great exterior and interior. The bar was charming and the service was very good there. I was a little disappointed in the room size for the price. It was quite cramped... More

This hotel is in a great location, just off the Royal mile! We walked there from Waverly Station with luggage in tow (warning, it was uphill) . We got there early, so they allowed us into our room at noon instead of the usual 3 pm check in. The room was well decorated, very comfortable, the best feature was the... More

The hotel is nice, clean, some good touches. The staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are named after wine producers or their wines. The meal in the bistro was a disappointment and I say that as someone who cooks and supplies restaurants with specialist ingredients. Service was over attentive at times but some people like that kind of thing.... More

A very nice place in the centre of Edinburgh! The twin room that I stayed in was spacious, the bathroom had both a shower cabin and a bathtub, and the personnel were very friendly. I also tried one of the sandwiches in the room dining menu and that was above expectation too. I would have no hesitation in staying at... More

We visited today and had afternoon tea ..celebrating my mother in laws 75th birthday ..party of eight..ideal location in the old part of Edinburgh. .once the city's lunatic asylum in the 1700s..exquisitely decorated with still some original walls..a luxurious cigar bothy and whiskey lounge..the waiters could not do enough for us..polite and at times quite funny..the food was delicious..sausage rolls... Service was amazing. The waiters were attentive at all times, without being intrusive. The crab was quite dry and was not what i expected. Really good choice of wines. Rustic room with an amazing bath tub. Old fashioned vibes.

Our stay was interesting. Hotel is quite stylish and unique. Room is appointed well but definitely not user friendly. Lights are very dim to the point one can not read in bed. Electric plugs are in strange places or non existent. Bath tub and shower are placed in room with a total lack of privacy. Mirrors in our room were... More

We were looking for a nice place for dinner to celebrate my Birthday and this place did not disappoint. We were not staying in the hotel, only ate in the restaurant but I cannot fault it. The staff were lovely and very attentive. The atmosphere was relaxed and tables were not cramped in on top of one another. The food... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
