I operate motorcycle tours in Scotland and I arranged for our group to stay at Du Vin for 2 nights. I stayed for 4. Great rooms, very attentive staff and a classic feel make this place a great alternative to the big chain hotels. The Bistro is beautiful and the breakfasts are great. Du Vin is a short walk from... The restaurant is lovely. The staff were friendly and attentive. They have extensive wine list which ranges from £22- £199! Our pate was delicious, although I would probably call it a terrine. Mussels with chips were fine, but not stand out. The pear and almond tart with ice cream was delicious. Would definitely eat here again

Turned up on spec during the Edinburgh fringe festival and was lucky enough to get a table for 3 after a short wait at the bar upstairs. Staff could not have been more helpful and friendly. The meals we had were all of reasonable proportion and good value. I had the belly pork which was flavoursome and my daughter the... More

Attentive service on arrival. The only two members of staff then disappeared which left the bar open and 'free' if you were that way inclined, which I wasn't. After ten minutes asked reception to track down staff. She said nothing - just picked up phone and rang the bar where I'd already told her there was nobody working. I was... More

The location cannot be better. A stroll away to the Royal Mile (to be done once and then avoided at all costs), near the University of Edinburgh, Royal Museum and the side streets. A park is a hop over. The reception staff are very friendly and helpful. We were accompanied to our room by one of the staff and given... More

What a great boutique hotel! Right in the heart of Edinburgh, just a stroll from the Royal Mile, this building was a 19th century "lunatic asylum," and has been transformed into an upscale hotel and bistro. Look for specials - we spent a night there after having seen in on the "Eat Walk Edinburgh" tour and thought how much fun... More

This is a really lovely boutique feel hotel in the centre of Edinburgh where you could easily walk to practically all of the major tourist sites (you're a 30 second stroll from the museum) and are on a very straightforward bus route for any that might be slightly further eg. Botanical gardens. I booked via Tripadvisor with booking.com and felt... More

We stayed for three nights at the beginning of the Edinburgh Fringe and chose the hotel primarily on location and reputation. Frankly, you could not choose a better location for accessing all that the festival has to offer and I'd recommend it on that alone, however it did not live up to its reputation for us. We stayed in Springfield,... More

Booked this hotel as a treat for our visit to Edinburgh, it's in a pretty good location, but for what you pay I feel it is expensive. There is no spa or gym the rooms are average size with small bathrooms and nothing spectacular. The in room mini bar and snacks are ridiculously priced, a normal size packet of crisps... More

The Hotel Du Vin made our wedding celebration completely wonderful. I absolutely couldn't fault anything in our day from the welcome our guests received when they arrived to the help we got taking all our stuff out to the car again the morning we left. I wish I could have remembered everyone's names but the girl on the desk who... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
