Popped in for a couple of pints before catching a train from Haymarket Station. Public bar was fairly quiet with just a few locals present. Some on their way home from the football at Tynecastle, and some watching a game on the large TV that involved two teams of muscular brutes fighting overan oval shaped ball. Decor and furnishings were... More

Comfortable and clean budget hotel on quiet pretty street on block from Haymarket Railway Station and Edinburgh Airport Tram. Excellent historic pubs nearby. Easy inexpensive Double Decker bus access to downtown. Excellent Scottish Breakfast each morning. Staff friendly and helpful.

The couple who own the hotel, are very nice and very helpful. The hotel is in a perfect spot, just a short walk from Haymarket station. Breakfast room is small but nice, and they serve a good breakfast. However, the room was absolutely terrible - dirty, small and very dated (early 70'ies style, and definitely not renovated since). Shower cabin... More

The Hotel is well located at around 20 minutes walk from the heart of Edinburgh. John was a very friendly host and the breakfast was freshly prepared with a reasonable choice for the fry up (hash browns and fried bread would add the final gloss to it). My single bedroom was dated and the bathroom did leave something to be... More

Convenient for Haymarket station, a mins five minutes walk away. This is a basic, well maintained hotel. The rooms have everything you would expect from the class of hotel and everything was clean & tidy. The breakfast was very good, freshly prepared food of your choice off a set menu. There is an evening bar as well but I cannot... More

My first impression was that this was nicely decorated hotel, until I saw the room! Well, the bath room to be exact. It was in desperate need of updating as it had ill matching tiles ,some broken or missing altogether. The room itself was very pokey and hardly room to move. The bed itself was hard and not comfortable at... More

This is the worst experience I ever had in a B&B in UK. The room was dirty and very dated. Bad smell in the room, poor lights, cleaning is probably not done since days ... dust everywhere ... spider in the bathroom ... dated matress, chairs. Pillow is probably older than me !! If your idea is to book there,... More

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
