A few updates needed but a great stay overall. Staff really friendly, food good, good variety and always hot, room clean and four free drinks each per night! Entertainment a bit mixed, but generally pretty watchable, James funny and singer on Weds night very good( Rob Rondelle I think).

Booked with Shearings only a couple of weeks ahead of trip & only a standard twin room was available. Upon arrival were allocated room 304 on the 3rd floor on a wing off the main corridor. This room has no central heating & was icy cold, as was the bathroom also. We could literally see our breath & were so...

Stayed here on a shearings weekend away, the rooms were comfortable and warm. The food was pretty good , the breakfast items were very high quality. The entertainment on the Saturday night was excellent, James was very funny, and the 4 free drinks a bonus. The public areas were refurbished to a high standard. The staff were all very friendly...

Had a lovely long weekend stay travelling with shearings coach tour. Great value for the money. Friendly staff, good food and comfortable accommodation. The reception area bar and restaurant look like they have recently decorated to a good standard. The room myself and friend had was comfortable, clean and warm. Could maybe benefit from redecorating but was very nice. I...

It saddens me to say I was bitterly disappointed after my recent weekend here, particularly as my first two visits had been so enjoyable (see previous review for comparison). While I still have a fondness for the hotel itself, my experience on this occasion was spoiled by the way I was served, and consequently left feeling pretty worthless as a...

Staff very friendly, food good and substantial BUT: Spent a midweek break here and paid extra for a standard plus room for which the description included 'newly' upgraded . . . including a flat screen TV. The room was large, clean and recently decorated however the heating system comprised a 900x750 (approx) double panel super K radiator which barely felt...

A good way to see parts of the UK without the usual stresses of driving or handling your luggage. Left the Shearings interchange at Stretton, Warrington at 10.30am and arrived at the hotel at 3.30pm having stopped for lunch at Gretna Green. Big hotel built in the style of a castle. I had been informed before booking that the lift...

Just returned from a 3 night stay with shearings . Staff were great as was the food and nothing was too much trouble if a request was made. The trips to edinborough and peebles were good and our driver Robert knew the area so well of course. We went on the Royal Britannia well worth a visit but make sure...

This is my third visit to this hotel over a number of years. Evidence of refurbishment to a good standard of common areas. However, use of oil filled electric radiators could be upgraded to full central heating in bedrooms. Staff were very helpful especially as our coach was delayed and we arrived at 9 pm for a 3 course dinner...

We had a great weekend here , indeed our second. The main rooms are lovely, well decorated and comfortable. The entertainment is great and the food very acceptable. There has to be a downside and unfortunately the bedrooms although warm and clean are a little tired but still comfortable. Wouldn't put me off staying there again . Thouroughly enjoyed it
