I paid to have a private two-bunk room to myself, sharing the ladies' shower room. The room was very clean with the bed already made up. It was very small of course, but had a mirror and a chair and sockets for charging up phones etc. I just wanted somewhere clean, comfortable and cheap to stay the night. The kitchen...

Many thanks for your nice review, Irene. It was a pleasure to meet you. With any luck, some of the ideas we discussed will be in full-swing next time you stay here! We'll eventually get all the rooms redecorated, don't worry - and I made the first step to seeing about having that building opposite painted (super idea!). We'll see...

One of the very best Hostels that I have stayed in. New managers, very helpful and friendly. The place is clean, warm and fit for purpose. Good hot shower, I will stay again and suggest my friends do as well. Very comfy bed. Close to Aracaber Alps. Convenient for both Munro and Corbett walking.Good for bird watching in their garden saw...

I stayed here with a friend and my son. She stayed in a shared dorm and my son and i in a private room for four nights whilst we explored. the hostel had one room that was the dining area and lounge. The staff were mainly friendly and helpful adn it was a great base for exploring the area.

Our 10th day of the Lands End to John O'Groats cycle ride. A short day from Lochranza (Isle of Arran) to Inverary. We were greeted by a lovely lady who showed us the accommodation, bike storage and the kitchen area. There was no catering at the hostel so we ate at the local fish and chip shop. However there was...

Inveraray is quite small and this SYHA- "affiliated" hostel is situated two minutes' walk from the town centre, so it is both easy to find and in a quiet location. The staff may appears less than professional initially, but when given the chance they proved both helpful and friendly. Excellent self-catering kitchen with a very sociable "island" style counter. The...

Superb place to get your head down for a couple of nights in between trekking the Munros. Simple, basic, no frills hostel which does the job splendidly and 5 minutes away from good pubs and supermarket. Brilliant wifi reception also. Clean, friendly staff, inexpensive with nice big cooking / dining area. The ideal resting spot for hill walkers like myself or...

Having stayed in a number of hostels around the UK and in Europe I don't really have a problem with things being basic. In fact many hostels often are not brilliantly resourced but you just learn to come prepared. The hostel has a living /dining/reading area that is quite small which means that there isn't really a quiet or separate...

I spent a few nights there with a group of friends, we rented out the whole hostel for a weekend away and it was lovely. It is only a few minutes walk from the main street and overall it was a very comfortable place to sleep. The guy in charge is nice, and so is the town. It is still...

Thank you for your review and your kind comments about our manager. We'll pass that on and take a look to see if we can do anything about the squeaky bed.

We arrived at this hostel expecting basic accommodation. However, having stayed in many hostels, we expected it to be very basic but clean. It was filthy. The bed protectors were covered in dirt and scattered with mouse droppings. I know only too well how hard it can be to eradicate mice, however the amount of droppings (and general filth) made...

Bed was comfy, the WiFi was surprisingly fast, the whole place is clean and the shower was hot. What more could you ask for?! Location is brilliant too, next door to a shop and a minute's walk from the centre.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Inveraray Hostel opened on October 10, 2013 as an independent hostel, replacing the previous Youth Hostel owned by SYHA. We are a small, friendly Hostel providing budget accommodation with small dormitories or family rooms. A drying room, cycle shed and free car parking also available. We want friendliness and relaxation to be central to the hostel's character, catering for solo travellers, families and small groups. The hostel is a great base for a number of woodland and small hill walks and sits on the banks of Loch Fyne, only yards from Inveraray Castle and a number of other attractions. Various mountains, walks and attractions are only a small car journey away. The hostel opens from Mar - Oct and is available for private hire out of season.
