Mercure Aberdeen Caledonian is an elegant Victorian hotel overlooking Union Terrace Gardens in the city centre. The locally-inspired design, with its Renaissance style of architecture in white Kemnay granite with stained glass windows, reflects Aberdeen's rich and varied heritage - from the harbour and beach to the many beautiful castles with their colourful histories. Located in the city centre, the hotel is ideal for guests attending for both business and leisure. Guests can enjoy afternoon tea, a snack or a light meal in the elegant Bistro restaurant. Relax and unwind with a selection of international dishes cooked to perfection by our chef, before grabbing yourself a drink or two at the bar. Away from the hotel, guests can experience the majesty of Union Terrace Gardens. The main train station is just a ten-minute walk away, while Aberdeen's old fishing Village, Fittie, is just a short distance further. From the A90, follow signs for the city centre and Union Street. Half way down the main thoroughfare, turn left on to Union Terrace, Mercure Aberdeen Caledonian Hotel is on the left after approximately 100 yards.

Quick checkin, room nice. Shower not warm enough throughout stay. No biscuits and one tea bag that was not replaced. Bed not changed on second night. A right smell on the first floor, seems to be lots of security, is it or is it not a COVID hotel. Parking not included and now way of getting bags in without paying, had to park on pedestrian path. If with the wife I don’t think we would be happy 👎

Hotel's Favorite
Modern rooms, comfy beds, nice food and very helpful staff. I phoned ahead about parking and was given clear instructions how to find the car park behind the hotel through the one way systems. My meal was good, nothing fancy but good sized portions and the service was quick. I was leaving early before breakfast was served so they prepared me a breakfast bag to take away, a really nice touch.

The king terrace suite on the third floor is a superb luxury room. Huge room, king bed and a sofa/ single seat area with desk and tv. Bathroom is finished to high standard with rainfall shower over the Bath. Very spacious and just what I needed to chill out in after long days out seeing Aberdeen. There is some traffic noise, but if you’re out all day that won’t matter as much. Same for the current building works going on outside. Not much the hotel can do about it, but if you’re out of the hotel between 9 and 5 you won’t hear this noise as it stops come evening. I didn’t hear any noise at all from other rooms which was great (always a hate of mine when staying in hotels). Only thing I did notice on 2 out of the 3 nights was music from outside somewhere. But you can’t have everything. I use ear plugs for sleep anyway and couldn’t hear it after that. I noticed a lot of the big hotels are slap bang in the city centre and also likely to have some traffic noise etc. Staff and service are 5 star. The room service options are excellent, as were the serving sizes and the quality of the food. Service was always friendly and excellent. It seemed the receptionist was doing a lot of multi tasking, being in reception but also delivering orders of food. Shout out to that person for sure! All in all a great hotel and fantastic room to relax in after a day out sightseeing.

The female receptionist was excellent. Sadly, it went downhill from there. The building is old and quirky, but also tired. There is a lift, but then steps to the rooms. The bedroom was good for the price. The breakfast was awful - barely warm, almost boiled in texture, and the drinks were in paper cups. The bar / breakfast area / restaurant was soulless. I use Mercure regularly, but won’t be returning here.

We booked a 2 night break at this hotel and have a very mixed review. The location of the hotel is great, very central and just off Union St. Our room was comfortable with a great view. The bed was comfy and we had a good nights sleep. Good shower in the bathroom. There was hand sanitising stations throughout the hotel. There is no atmosphere in the hotel, the bar/bistro was absolutely soulless and not welcoming in the least. We had booked dinner in advance but when we arrived there was no on around so we weren't sure we were in the right place! The room was cold, the tables were sticky and the food was mediocre. Breakfast on both mornings was terrible, paper cups for tea/coffee out or urns, bread for tasting still seemed to be partially frozen and the cooked items were of poor quality and Luke warm. No way would I rate this hotel as 4 star. I will go back to spend more time in Aberdeen, but definitely not at this hotel.
