The Great Western Hotel is conveniently situated just a few minutes from Aberdeen’s city centre and a short walk from Union Square Shopping Centre. A complimentary wireless internet connection is provided in each room.
My husband and I regularly stay in Aberdeen and always manage to get good deals. This was no exception. Friendly staff, clean room and a lovely breakfast served in a very relaxed environment. We used the hotel car park but there is plenty on street parking nearby. The hotel is only just over a mile from the City Centre so not too far to walk. The room was very basic but this was our choosing as we could have paid more to stay in one of the superior rooms.

Stayed here two nights while visiting relatives. The room was fairly small and a bit basic (small wardrobe, desk and TV) but clean and comfortable. The bathroom is decent and panelled with faux walnut - with a larger than usual walk-in shower cubicle. The room was quiet and the bed comfortable. There is free wifi which worked well. The hotel has a restaurant and bar - a sports bar popular with locals which can get noisy but on the second floor of the hotel we didn't hear a thing. They also served us free enchiladas and chips which is something they do regularly apparently which was a nice touch. Breakfast was decent - the full Scottish version is fulsome enough - though the poached/scrambled eggs on toast portion is significantly smaller - although there are cereals and toast…

My friend I had never visited The Terrace (their restaurant) before, but we had a discount voucher, so took advantage of this. The waitress was soon at our side, with a lovely smile. We placed our drinks first and after they came we requested a straw. Quick sharp she was back with her smile and the said straws. We didn't have long to wait for our meal. I had lovely fish and chips. Two pieces of fish,a dish of mushy peas, and a bucket of wonderful chips. My friend had chicken Fajitas which she throughly enjoyed. We found it to be very clean and the toilets were a dream to visit. Again very clean and there were vases of fresh flowers between the sinks. The paper towels were soft and durable. Only one criticism and that is the decor is dark and the room look small…

Have been a few times as I live locally. The lasagna is a generous sized portion and is very tasty. My partner usually has the beef burger, which is good quality meat, large in size and nicely presented with coleslaw and fries in a little pot. 2 mains and 2 drinks usually come to around £30. Quiet, relaxed atmosphere in a nice part of the city.

Once again had a lovely Tex Mex meal. Chicken Enchilada with spicy rice was fantastic. My friends had fajitas & they really enjoyed them. The Chili bowl was also tried & thoroughly enjoyed. Service was first class.

Warm welcome from reception. Went to our superior room up stairs it was absolutely roasting hot the whole 2 nights. It had a lovely balcony bit. Room its self was ok bed comfortable. The shower/toilet was fabulous. The breakfast staff and food was great Bar man kinda miserable. Wifi good Heres where it gets awful... After being awake all night listening to a neighbour snore the fire alarm in our room went of for no reason at 6am. reception had no idea why and said sorry but didnt really care. I heard coughing snoring arguments sex banging about sliding door banging doors the walls are just to thin. I was awake nearly the whole 2 nights. If you drive to the hotel dont move your car or you will need to park down streets if there is any spaces because the car park fills fast …

My experience of Aberdeen hotels is that they're generally pricey for what you get, with even regular chains well over £100 per night. I didn't expect much in the way of quality when I got a dbl for £70 per night Inc breakfast at the Great Western. But I was pleasantly surprised. The rooms aren't pristine, we had a carpet with a very obvious iron imprint in the middle of the floor 😆 and a damp issue in the wardrobe from the shower, making the room a little stale when we first arrived. But for £70 I thought it was good value with a nice cooked breakfast. Our evening meal in the restaurant was absolutely excellent, but I'll review that separately.
