Heard the Avoca had changed hands, we decided to go for Sunday lunch, met by a cheerie staff member, first impression- place looked immaculate and new table items, fresh and clean.Excellant new menu, staff were attentive, polite, and friendly. The food was superb and we had a lovely meal, indeed ate more than we intended too!!!!!! Highly recommended, will be back and may even try the rooms overnight as the impression we got is that the hotel is on the UP!!!!! Nice visit

Wow what a turn around. Our favourite wee hotel has new staff, we got a lovely welcome by Paul. The old staff were 4 women who could really scare rats, I'm serious lol, sour faced and felt like we were doing them a favour staying here. Food amazing as always and Ann is so warm and friendly, I wasn't afraid to ask for anything!! Would definitely recommend anyone coming to Newcastle to stop off at Avoca, the atmosphere is lovely and there's a log fire to keep u nice and warm, my daughter really noticed the difference in the place, we will be back soon and thanks Shane the waiter for lending me ur lighter!

Called in here...today..unplanned...and decided to try seniors lunch. Had delicious lamb with seasonal vegetables, mash and roast potatoes. Couldn’t fault any...enjoyed every bite. Generous helping. Had fresh fruit salad and ice cream for dessert followed by a pot of excellent coffee. Ice cream was delicious..very good quality. All this for £7.25 each. Special thanks to Michael and Leanne or maybe ? Leah...for a warm welcome and great service. We hope to be back.

Had lunch in the avoca with my toddler daughter and my sisters. The place had a lovely atmosphere as soon as we entered were made to feel so welcome and nothing was a bother. Ordered Brie to start excellent portions and absolutely delicious. Had a ceasar salad for main and it was one of the tastiest Cesar salads I have ever had. My daughter being 2 year old and boisterous was making a bit of noise and not once were we made to feel uncomfortable as we have had in other restaurants. Staff were very attentive polite and respectful. Will definitely be visiting again

My nice had her confirmation meal here as apparently the hotel has been taken over by new owners aka Hughe mccanns. What can I say we started off by a freezing room. Was greeted by a lady who was not fit to run front of house her manners were dispacable not helpful and obviously does not like children...... Decided to take our seats for the meal. 1st of all my sister whom had already payed well over the price for the meal was td she could not have a salad as all the food was pre made. Cesar salad came and what can I say It Was The top of the iceberg literally it was a full lettuce that had wilterd were it had been sitting in room temp that long chicken was like something of a roadkill dry tasteless and had a rubber texture going for it. Moving onto main course LOL is all I can do and say. Roast beef more like roast rubber microwave potatoes and veg that obviously was cut with the chainsaw out the back. Fresh salmon yeah fresh straight from the packet and out of the microwave yet again...... Veg soup dish water with a bit of vegetables through in to add carather. Sweets oh my oh my the children hoot ice cream Sundays let's face which toddlers and baby's eat passion fruit and fresh cream. When waitress was asked for plain ice cream. For baby's her reply was ill scrape the cream and fruit out of it whilst turning her face up that much it would of turned the cream alone. Rang and complained to be hung up on and laughed at. My poor neice had a horrible day from the minute we entered that run down place until she came out she actually ended up havi g a KFC on way home. Such a let down. Strongly advise people not to attend this place nor spend their hard earned money in it...... Really a KFC dinner box at £2.99 was more ravishing than that dirt that was served to us. AVOID like the plague.............
