Not one for writing bad reviews but I feel its needed. The manager here, Eric I believe his name really runs this place down. This man is a real aggressive bully and its unbelievable that a hotel would have somebody like this to run it, who has no clue at all how to work in the hospitality industry. The hotel isn't great in itself either, the rooms are grotty and they smell like wet dog. I would really avoid this place.
The first room I was allocated was to the rear of the bedroom block on the ground floor. On entry I noticed a strange strong smell, I left the main door open to try and get rid of the smell. After an hour, I realised it was a dog smell, so I called reception and they said I could change rooms. This room was on level 1 facing the hotel reception. It still smelt slightly but not as bad as the previous one. I appreciate it is only a budget hotel so I didn't set my sights too high. On returning to the room after eating dinner away from the hotel, I was surprised to see there were no lights along the outside corridor so had to make my way carefully along the outside corridor. Not good for health and safety. The cooked breakfast was OK except the baked beans were cold.
We had a lovely break here in Cardiff. The hotel was clean and welcoming. All the staff were very helpful and couldn't do enough for us. We found the rooms to be very clean, although basic and would benefit from updating. However, the hotel was very good value and the staff were exceptional!
Even though we were not expecting a 5 star hotel we were expecting far more than we actually got. First we were very annoyed at the fact that we put the dog in kennels as it said nothing about being able to take dogs and we found out we could have done for a small sum. At no time did it state breakfast was included so only found out after going to check out. The accommodation was clean but was slightly better than a Pontins chalet, and we spent until 3am trying to sleep but due to the excessive noise and drinking of the people next door this was impossible, with other guests also shouting to them to shut up. There was no way of getting hold of anyone from the hotel, nobody at the end of a phone or on reception. All in all a poor situation that left us so tired we were unable to enjoy the following day as we were far to tired.…
I visited with my wife , son (15), daughter (13) and our Cocker Spaniel. We booked initially with Hotels.com and extended our stay by 1 night directly with Campanile the total cost for 2 rooms for 4 nights was £225 so you have something to put my comments into context with. The hotel is built on a steep hill so beware if you have mobility issues and ensure you can do hill starts well if you're driving. There's also a woodland walk next to it if to get to the main road where Liddles is and bear left. The hotel looks a bit tired and in need of a revamp. The room decor is dated and our room smelled of stale dog ( not our own) I'm assuming ours was a designated room for guests with dogs (22). The bar / restaurant area : the seats were worn and needed replacing and had the feel of a motorway cafe not a bistro / restaurant. There is no reception staff after 11pm. The key card didn't work for our room, and we were locked out for 15 mins with our dog left caged inside the room. I was having to resort to call the police to contact the key holder to let us in, when the key card finally worked. This was reported and rectified the next morning. No emergency contact information was listed anywhere. Staff were friendly and helpful enough. Wed usually stay in a holiday Inn express or a premier Inn, comparable in price if booked in advance (Premier Inn don't accept dogs) and I've also stayed in other Campaniles in Washington and Doncaster. On balance our stay wasn't the best and I can think of other options if I revisit Cardiff. Having said this they'd only just come out if lockdown so perhaps my experience isn't truly reflective in all aspects? As for other reviews comparing this to other establishments such Jury's Inn for example I was also query the difference in cost between the Campanile and the other hotels? As for the food, I can't say as we are out every night and had breakfast at the local premier Inn as kids ate free, combined with "Eat out to help out" one morning the whole family got get for £7.99. Our stay was ok but could have been better. …
