We went for early dinner before the football. It was lovely and quiet, we sat out in the large conservatory which had nice views of the surrounding gardens. Even though it was quiet - one other group of three, our food took a while. I had the chicken, bacon and leek pie, it was pretty good, sauce was very runny... More

The reception was unmanned and slow. The receptionist when she came was pleasant and showed me to my room. Room 8 has no windows with light and ventilation being derived from a rectangular open roof light. There is no blind on the skylight. Room itself was adequate size. Bathroom minimal toiletries and lacked any grab handle to assist in getting... More

We, mature couple, stayed here for three nights. Good located on the main street of Abergavenny. Easy way to the center and good start to drive to visit the attractions around. Breakfast and dinner were OK.

Good Sunday lunch... We had the beef, pork and the chicken! Short on cabbage but I asked for more and the waitress was very polite, keen to help and got us some more. We were blessed for carrots! Clean pleasant restaurant. Staff very helpful Orange slices in the water which is always classy!

Stopped on the way across Wales for lunch. Super food all round. Tender sirloin cooked rare to perfection served with perfect home made chips. Lovely lemon cake on offer with coffee. Buttery lush chocolate brownie. Friendly service. Beautiful garden too albeit bit of traffic noise from the A40 but acceptable. Definitely a place to return to

Our first visit to The Plas Derwen and we weren't disappointed. Food was so tasty 😋 and staff were friendly and attentive. Furnishings and surroundings pleasant without being too 'posh' and not too pricey! If you fancy a comfortable night out with lush food then this place is well worth a visit.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Plas Derwen is a fantastic pub restaurant which offers exceptional food at ordinary prices. Located within easy reach of the A40 and A465 (Heads of the Valleys Road), it was redeveloped to a high standard in April 2007. All our food is cooked to order, using produce from local suppliers, listed on the back of our weekly changing menus, enabling you to have a different dish with every visit. There is also a Specials board and a Fish Specials board for even more variety. This is a warm, welcoming venue with pastel colours and a large see through feature fireplace. The building dates back 600 years and the refurbishment has been sympathetically undertaken to reflect old meeting new. With contemporary furnishing, the traditional slant has been retained with many nooks and crannies around the pub. The Garden Room, Lounge Bar and double Conservatory are separate rooms offering different experiences. Some areas have leather sofas and leather tub chairs. ... more   less
