We were upgraded to the Duc D'orleons suite which was old but absolutely gorgeous - needed a step ladder to get into bed which was very comfortable! and cant fault it - we were very grateful for that - we were celebrating and they did a really nice thing for us! BUT THE menu was pretentious - lemon jam for plaice was olive oil with a squeeze of lemon! same menu for each night - all the residents I was talking to hated the menu and it was overpriced!! however most of the staff were lovey - overworked - but lovely! the restaurant manager during the evening tried really hard to maintain a severe front when challenged about the menu but bless him when you got through to him he was lovely! Other staff were lovely - breakfast staff worked as hard as they were able but 2 staff on serving all the rooms who came down for breakfast and you had to wait 20 mins to get served - not good but they were working as hard as they could!! This is NOT a 4*hotel - it could be ! but they need to sort out training their staff and the food ! £4.25 for a bowl of stale crisps - but they did take them off the bill! Gorgeous hotel - gorgeous suite - gorgeous garden - some gorgeous staff - but would i stay there again for £540 for 2 nights 2 & b and evening meal - even with the upgraded suite - we went to celebrate me being clear of cancer but really wish we had gone elsewhere! such a shame! what a complete waste of our celebration - sorry wood norton but we wont be returning till you change your menu!

My wife and I took a quick break at the Wood Norton to celebrate our Anniversary. It was a surprise for my wife and the hotel allocated us the most wonderful room and made our visit special in these difficult times. We enjoyed cream teas and Prosecco on the terrace followed by an excellent evening meal. The wine prices were reasonable, the staff attentive but not over so. Full marks to the management and staff who couldn't do enough for us.

We travelled to Wood Norton at the start of June, 20 years after spending our wedding night there. I had mentioned this when emailing to book a dinner reservation. Upon arrival, there was very little communication from the Receptionist, although when we were given our room key to one of the Duchess Suites, we presumed we had been upgraded. In the room, which was simply stunning, and spotlessly clean, there were balloons and a gift and card from family who live near by. When I messaged them with our thanks, they asked if we had also been upgraded? Slightly embarrassing, as we had presumed the hotel had upgraded us. Upon checkout we were informed that we had actually been upgraded twice, once by family and then by the Hotel, but it would have been nice to have been informed of this at check in so we could have expressed our thanks. Cream Tea on the terrace was lovely, although 2 of the scones were obviously homemade and 2 out of a packet and not a good quality. Our dinner reservation was 8.10pm. Upon arrival we were seated in the side room, not the main restaurant and completely forgotten about. At 8.40pm someone came to take our order - drinks and all, despite catching the attention of staff 3 times during that 30 minutes. They were literally rushed off their feet. Food was excellent, but dirty plates on a neighbouring table were there the whole evening and never moved. A similar picture at breakfast - very long wait just to be asked what we'd like to drink. This is a simply stunning Hotel, but the lack of staff is really letting it down. Rather than posting this review immediately upon returning home I sent an email to the Manager. 8 days later I have still not had a reply. No doubting it has been an awful year for businesses such as these but without enough staff to deliver the service you would expect, they're going to loose out even more.

The hotel is well restored after the ravages left by a fire in 1940 and the BBC after using it for many decades as their engineering training centre. The grounds are also well kept and very pleasant. Maybe I missed it, but I didn't see any information about the history of the building. Unfortunately our recent second visit was slightly let down by the lack of restaurant staff - and possibly also kitchen staff. We only had breakfast twice (no other meals) and the waiting staff clearly worked very hard to keep up with orders. But at a premium hotel one does not expect to wait 45 minutes for breakfast. We all understand times are hard for the catering a leisure industry right now, but we felt the pressure was unfair on the staff, and hotel management should have reduced the number of guests. That might have meant we wouldn't have been able to stay. Fine, but it would have been a better experience for other guests and much less pressure of some of the staff.

Returned again for special anniversary but very disappointed, little or no communication between reception and restaurant. Slow communication between restaurant and bar left waiting for ordered wine with meal. Family member phoned ahead and ordered bottle of Prosecco for surprise gift on arrival . This was not given to us and when we later enquired about it we discovered that not only were we unaware of it but the hotel had actually over charged her by £10 which we then had to spend at the hotel bar . Food in restaurant still delicious but overall wouldn’t return, such a shame as lots of potential but felt like service is substandard for such a lovely hotel.
