Travelers' Choice
Imagine a hotel where roaring log-burning open fireplaces hint at its roots dating from the 1300's, with a vaulted ceiling and original wood panelling built in the seventeenth century. Visit a hotel that has been coloured by the characters of history. At The Lygon Arms, with its 86 rooms you can stay in the suite that King Charles I once stayed in the night before the Battles of Worcester in 1651. See the carvings of John Travis' name on the arch of the front door, etched into the hotel's history in 1620. An historic hotel in the heart of Broadway with a typically Cotswolds history. Dine in Bar & Grill or the Wine Bar, or enjoy a coffee or a Cotswold Gin and Tonic in one of our many lounges. A spa , swimming pool and The Lygon Gardens await you but most importantly the team look forward to welcoming you. .

No foreign trip to celebrate my big birthday this year but I still wanted to do something so booked a two night dinner, bed and breakfast at the Lygon Arms. I had been amused by the comments about the car park and was glad we didn’t have a car that was as expensive as many in the car park as their owners must have had a heart attack driving through the potholes!! But once inside the hotel it is just beautiful - so many different nooks and crannies to sit and enjoy the most amazing cocktails - the one inspired by Elizabeth Taylor & Richard Burton was divine. Our room was large, quirky, quiet and had the most comfortable beds we have ever slept in. Dinner was delicious and the portions more than ample - it was an effort to get through three courses. There were dogs but not too many - there were also children but not too many!! My reason for not making this a five start review is because on a arriving home my friend asked if we had both enjoyed her gift of two spa treatments!!! She had paid £130 and had a detailed conversation with the hotel but we were never informed of this during our stay. What was also unfortunate was that another friend had paid for a bottle of bubbly and a contribution of £100 to our drinks bill and this also hadn’t been put in our room and we only found out about it on the second day of our stay after that friend had rung the hotel to complain. I contacted the hotel and they apologised saying it was totally their fault but it has taken the shine off an otherwise lovely weekend and is not what I expected from a hotel of this standard

What a wonderful weekend, we arrived at The Lygon Arms on Thursday afternoon till Sunday, Our Courtyard Suite was to perfection the hospitality and assistance from all staff was fantastic. We had a walk around Broadway which is such a lovely place. Thursday Evening we ate at Lygon Bar & Grill, the food was amazing and I can highly recommend for starter the Pork, sage & chestnut sausage roll for main the Beef Wellington to share, simply the best and the Iced honeycomb parfait for dessert Restaurant Manger was very friendly along with all the waiting staff, everybody is so friendly and helpful and great to have drinks in the bar after dinner. We were recommended to go to Daylesford Organic Farm for lunch on the Friday, such a beautiful place and a great lunch and amazing farm shop with simply the best cheeses and also the Bamford Barn Shop is definitely worth a visit whilst your at Daylesford. Friday evening we had a Drinks and then a Private Dinner in The Cromwell Room was where Oliver Cromwell slept the night before the Battle of Worcester, such a treat, again food Service and Hosting was again all to perfection and we had a wonderful evening hosted by the fantastic Erika Steward, Director of Sales at The Lygon Arms and our waiter was so professional, friendly and efficient. Saturday morning we went to Jackdaws Castle and had a fantastic tour with Jonjo and Jacqui O' Neill such a great place and was wonderful to see all the horses. We then headed to Cheltenham to the races and had some wonderful hospitality from Christine McKenzie at The Jockey Club, after the races we went back to Broadway and had a wonderful meal at Broadway Indian Restaurant and then drinks back at the Lygon Bar. Sunday morning we had a wonderful breakfast and headed back home. It was such and enjoyable weekend and so many thanks to everyone at The Lygon who looked after us. We will definitely be back again very soon and highly recommend visiting.

Once you have established where the car park is, dropped bags to the room, it just gets better and better. You find a comfy spot somewhere in the labyrinth of little nooks around the bar and let the staff look after you. Immediately the drinks arrived it felt as if all the tension we carried in with us had been wiped away. It allowed us to totally relax, enjoy the ambience and everything about the place. It was as if the beautiful honey coloured stone walls absorbed our worries. We cannot wait to book another stay when maybe we will use the spa to see if it is possible to relax beyond the supine!!

We have been here for two nights already and have one night left. I read plenty of reviews after I had made my booking, which were so negative, about dogs, staff, potholes in the car park, rooms not up to a great standard etc etc. Well if you ask my husband he would say that I am so picky about our hotel stays, so here is my review, Lygon Arms Hotel is just amazing, I always say I would never go back to the same place twice but I would definitely come back to this hotel. The staff are so attentive and friendly, yes they walk around in jeans and blue shirts, but they look so stylish and approachable. Yes the car park has pot holes but so have a lot of roads, I think people forget about the atrocious weather we have had and covid19, we have been locked down and I don’t think the priority for management is to repair the car park, the first priority for them is to get the hotel open and staff back into their jobs to service guests again. I have called reception on two occasions and the speedy service I received was just amazing, both times there was someone knocking on the door within 5 mins of my call. On the second call I was having problems with the coffee machine in our room, which was replaced instantly. Yes there are dogs around the hotel and I only witnessed very well behaved dogs who had responsible owners keeping them quiet. I thought it bought a really nice atmosphere to the hotel and I am not particularly a dog lover, you are in the heart of the country so it is expected. We have eaten in the hotel each day either for lunch or dinner and on each occasion we couldn’t fault the food or the service. My husband wanted me to just mention that he would have liked more choice on the lagers served in the bar as they only had local beers and lagers on offer, which he didn’t like. The building is just fantastic and the furnishings, log fires, cosy individual rooms creates such a great ambiance. Don’t miss out on this brilliant hotel by reading the negative reviews.

We had a great 2 night stay at Lygon Arms and could not fault the staff. They are all friendly and helpful and go out of their way to assist and make your stay and great experience. Our room, a Courtyard Junior Suite was clean and well appointed and within metres of the main building. Some reviewers have criticised the breakfast but we found the breakfast excellent with good quality produce. The car park could do with resurfacing but is large enough to cater for the hotel even when full. Our only gripe is the number of dogs in the building. This has been mentioned in other reviews. We are dog lovers and have no objection to dogs in the lounge area etc. But when dining of an evening and paying £200 for an evening meal it is not appropriate to be trying to have a conversation on your table and having dogs barking nearby. I’m sure dog lovers will welcome the a dog friendly policy, and many try and keep their pets quiet. it’s a judgment call for the hotel. It would not stop us staying at the hotel in future but will influence our evening dining options.
