Guests often appreciate the cleanliness and charming atmosphere, noting the inviting and well-maintained rooms and public areas. However, the hotel has been criticized for high noise levels, outdated rooms, and inconsistent service. ...We booked a standard room which was small and a little cramped... Also you have to negotiate 48 steps over a number of floors to get to your room ( equivalent of 4 floors worth of stairs) which is quite a feat everytime you return to your room... The rooms furniture is very dated and damaged, chips out of the wooden drawers, the glass tops wiped down on the top but not underneath and chairs old and dusty and coffee cup ring... The room was not cleaned either or towels changed as we stayed for 2 days... We did then find a little green tag tucked away amongst a leaflet offering spa services which coincidentally is closed saying put this on your door if you want your room cleaned... We were not told this upon arrival and the cleaner did turn up, face like a slapped behind and even though I said I didn't want the room cleaned, just wanted clean towels she was verging on rude as if it was our fault for not putting out this tag we were not told about... But remember 48 stairs to get to you room wear decent footwear.... Oh and don't book parking them as its £15 a day in the railway car park but if you go direct to the car park and pay yourself its only £9.30 in the SAME car park...

...We visited as a family celebrating my parents 30th wedding anniversary and the stay started off terribly with a problem with two of the rooms. My brother and his partner had to move rooms due to the heater being taped to the wall and the shower trickling water... My parents also had a problem after being told they were in a specific room to celebrate their anniversary to only find that they were not in this room on arrival... Our room itself was nice, the bed was comfy and it was a decent size however the shower and taps were dirty and the bathroom door handle was not screwed into the door...

...Reserved a “Feature Room” Suite; requesting either #39 or #40 with terrace overlooking the Thames River. We were first assigned a room in the building across the street, which was awful... Very dark; very small; cluttered with cheap pressed wood furniture; from the door you have to go up a flight of stairs to the room itself; very low 3 star level room in terms of décor, size, layout, and view... The bathroom was nice and clearly had been renovated but the room looked terrible... So we went back to reception and asked for a different room like what we had reserved / requested... They finally “discovered” that the room type we had reserved was available but they charged us another 30 pounds; after an hour’s wait, we finally were able to check in... There are two rooms with terraces that directly overlook the Thames River and which are above the restaurant... This first room was #39 and is not the best of the two... The terrace is by far and away the best feature of this room... We changed to the room next door, #40, and that is the perfect room... Large room, good layout, comfortable canopy bed; very nice modern bathroom with good lighting and counter space by the sink; and an excellent terrace directly overlooking the river from which you can watch the sun set...

...The bar and restaurant are really nice and stylish while the rooms retain period features and a more traditional feel... ...First of all I must say shop around and see what other hotels are available before you book this one 1: do not use the hotel parking.. we arrived earlier than anticipated so paid for extra to make sure we were covered because of the £85 fine. So we registered on the parking site and the cost for 24 hours was £8.50 and the hotel charges £15.00 for 24 hours there are plenty of spaces in both hotel section and the train station section of the car park... 2: the price this hotel charges per night you’d expect a decent nights sleep not a rock hard bed, flimsy pillows with no head support and a quiet sound proofed room if facing on the street rooms... The bed was so hard and the pillows not enough support I had to use the armchair cushions with the pillows on top... 4: the best bit of our stay is the pancake maker in the breakfast buffet 5: look at booking a premier inn or travel lodge because their facilities are more up to date than what this hotel can offer 6: so glad I didn’t book this hotel as originally planned for two night as this trip would’ve been cut short that’s for sure I did email the hotel with my concerns when I got home and they haven’t replied as of yet...

...A 4 star doesnt have cheap coffee in plastic sachets in the room, it would have a pod machine, the room was just average and nothing special, in fact I’ve had better rooms at a premier in at 10x cheaper rates. the spa is a joke, the whirlpool outside bath is the size of a paddling pool and is broken, they have a sauna, well it’s an outdoor shed that’s been converted, all put in a sort of alley way... The breakfast is very poor, the bacon is cheap, it has white gloop on it that is from using cheap brine bacon not dry cured, which is what most luxury hotels use, and it’s undercooked, I complained and they reluctantly cooked some for me... They don’t use local sourced sausages either and they too arnt evenly cooked, uniform shape and out of a large cheap box no doubt... Paying nearly £5000 for 9 days is extortionate and no where near a 4 star hotel, it’s a low 3 at best even with the only view of the river from the bar...

We did then find a little green tag tucked away amongst a leaflet offering spa services which coincidentally is closed saying put this on your door if you want your room cleaned... ...However we stayed in room 32 which sadly was on a stairwell and this totally spoilt our stay with the hotel as we were constantly disturbed and woken from 10.30 through to 1.30 am (9 times) by people thundering up the stairs and then chatting so loudly (not that they were doing anything wrong) but just no insulation keeping noise out and then a staff member helping someone with luggage but bounced the suitcase off of every stair which sounded horrendous TBH frightened the crap out us and woke us up again, to be honest we may as well have been sleeping in the hallway as it felt like we were with them we knew what so many guests were doing the following day.. this totally spoilt our stay for my Hubby’s birthday which is really sad as the hotel itself was amazing...

...We booked a 2 night stay over a weekend to celebrate our wedding anniversary and I would thoroughly recommend this hotel. There is no car parking onsite unless you are a blue badge holder but there are reserved spaces for hotel guests in the Railway station car park, a 5 minute walk away which for £15 per night is reasonable value... We arrived a few minutes before our 3pm check in and although there was a short queue in reception it probably took 15 minutes for us to be seen and checked in... We stayed in room 15 which was at the front of the building and was very clean and had everything we needed... Breakfast was really good, a buffet of hot, continental and all the usual... We ate in the Brasserie on our second evening for dinner which was our anniversary and that was also excellent and the staff were really good... Every member of staff we came into contact with were particularly pleasant but I would especially like to point out Zakayah (I hope that is correct) in the restaurant who was so lovely when serving us for our anniversary dinner...

The hotel is beautiful and the staff excellent. There was an issue with the room we booked due to some misinformation from central reservations, but Hvristo went above and beyond making sure a suitable alternative room was located... We were told that any refund/adjustment would be made upon check out, which was fine... The receptionist on duty advised us that she could not refund this money and it would need to wait until Tuesday (after the Easter holiday), when someone from the hotel would contact us... As this was on Friday, it was frustrating that it could not be resolved before Tuesday... We received a call late Tuesday morning to say that the refund was being processed... Overall we had a great stay and all of the staff who we dealt with in person were very helpful...

We really enjoyed our stay at the Sir Christopher Wren... We stayed in the separate Windsor House section in an Executive room which we found clean, comfortable and well equipped... It was very peaceful and had a river and castle view, although only a glimpse!... The buffet breakfast was in an exquisite room overlooking the river and again, the service was excellent, as was the food... We thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast, the products were of a very good quality which is rare in a buffet setting... We used the Riverside station car park, paid on arrival for 2 days to cover us and paid £8.60 which we were very pleased with... Arrived at 10am on a Saturday morning and there were still plenty of spaces... We shall definitely return here on our visits to the charming town of Windsor...

This cannot be a 4-star hotel! Maybe 2-star. Check-in took forever and the reception staff are completely clueless. Definitely an indication of the overall experience to come. Note to Management - find friendly, outgoing reception staff who actually want to be working there. Your mid-afternoon team on Tuesday December 5th were awful as was our experience with them. Rooms are just adequate and lacking anything special. No wash clothes, no slippers and very small. I would not stay here had I known these things. And wish I’d read a review like what I’m sharing before I made my booking. I will not ever return.

I had planned a two night solo stay at one of the Christopher Wren apartment rooms. I don't mind paying up for a nicer hotel experience and these rooms were expensive. Since I would arrive early in the day, I paid the extra fee for early check in. As most hotels do, they have a check out time of 11 am. Many guests were checking out when I was waiting to check in. Rooms then become available. A super kind employee named Mark did what he could for me to make my arrival comfortable and make my room assignment work for me. After seeing that the top floor, nice view rooms were getting cleaned (beds stripped) I told reception that I didn't mind waiting until housekeeping was through to check into a room. "Sorry. Those rooms are occupied." First I had been assigned a lower floor room that looked out on a brick wall and an HVAC system but I said didn't want it. I thought that if I was willing to wait for housekeeping, I could get assigned to a better room. Clearly, the nicer rooms were NOT occupied. I was at a loss as to why this was happening. So when they wouldn't budge on the apartments, I suggested assigning me a hotel room that was an upgrade and more expensive. "The hotel is full." I stayed one night so I wouldn't lose money I but also reserved a room in Windsor at a much nicer hotel for the next night to save some of my vacation. Big thanks to Mark for his support. He's the reason for any stars at all. I don't recommend this hotel. I wasn't treated kindly. They did refund my money for the second night. That didn't make up for the inconvenience or disappointment.

Dear candida6752 Thank you for taking the time to share your extremely detailed review of the hotel. Belatedly, I can only apologise that your recent stay failed to meet your expectations. If we have availability, we would never refuse a guests request to upgrade their room, however if the hotel if full then it is impossible to offer guests alternative bedrooms. I am sorry if this was not explained in a professional, polite manner. Thank you for your kind comments regarding Mark, I will ensure that your feedback is shared with him. Thank you for your detailed, constructive feedback I am pleased to note that we refunded you, however, I am sorry that you experience was not a more positive one. Kind regards Lesley Denyer Customer Service Manager

Stayed for two nights as part of large group. As the hotel has no lifts was given on request a ground floor room , which was small but functional . Noisy neighbours upstairs, one of which had a shower at 3 am! Staff at reception were very helpful. Dined in on second evening , which was very pleasant. Hotel is 10 minutes walk uphill to castle main gate , and is also very handy for boat trips on the river. Windsor has lots of restaurants and pubs within walking distance of hotel. Essential if arriving by car; to book a space in hotel section of station car park ( 5 mins walk). Would stay there again, but best to arrive by train at Windsor Riverside Station.

Dear Solway73 Thank you for taking the time to review The Sir Christopher Wren Hotel following your recent two night stay. Accommodation at the hotel is split across five buildings, there is no lift in the original, main house, however in Windsor House, where our newest bedrooms are there is a lift to all floors. The Wren is the only hotel in Windsor with a riverside location, overlooking Eton Bridge, it is also in the shadow of Windsor Castle. Our guests can easily reach the town centre, in a few minutes and enjoy the shopping plus the abundance of restaurants, bars and cafes. Thank you for your lovely feedback regarding the helpful, friendly service particularly from the reception team, we are pleased that you also enjoyed a very pleasant meal in the Brasserie. The hotel has a limited number of off site car parking spaces, and Windsor is also serviced by two railway stations, so guest have the choice of using Central station or Riverside which is the closest to the hotel. We want all of our guests to have a positive experience and to wish to return, so we are thrilled that you would choose to return. Please come back soon! Kind regards Lesley Denyer Customer Service Manager

We have stayed at the Sir Christopher Wren a number of time. In fact I write this from the the hotel lobby. The location is fantastic and the staff wonderful. BUT it is way overpriced even for Windsor. Our standard room at £260 per night is probably a £160 room at the very most. I’m afraid it will be our last stay here.

Lovely hotel. This was a special treat for us as we were doing a weekend of walking. Very friendly staff (we did get to meet Wendy who was lovely). One thing I will say is the drinks vouchers were a lovely touch. We sat on the terrace watching the sun sink and it was the best! Breakfast was lovely and plenty to eat.

Lovely cream tea sat overlooking the river. Friendly staff greeted us. Service was quick & our waiter was lovely. Very pleased with my cream tea as also came with 2 of my favourite cakes. Obviously scones one plain & one fruit but a small but lovely choc eclair & lemon meringue pie. Scones were deliciously warm with plenty of jam & cream. All very tasty with plenty of tea. The hotel itself looks wonderful

The location was ideal if you step out of the hotel and look left you can see the Castle and it is only a two minute walk to the castle. Staff at the hotel were lovely. Check in and out was easy and our rooms were ready for us on arrival at 3pm. The rooms were a little dated the wardrobe in my room was broken but they were clean and contained everything you would need for a short stay. I think you pay for the location rather than the room. The breakfast was brilliant, lots of various juice, tea/coffee, cereals, fruit, pastries, spreads and of course everything needed for a good ol’ full English. My nephew (9) was particularly fond of the pancake machine! It is one of the best breakfasts I’ve had in a hotel but I do prefer cereal fruit and pastries over a cooked breakfast. The Brasserie in the evening was a little different. There were 7 of us in the party and going to the bar for drinks took a while! I’m not sure if the staff were new or training but it took a good 15 minutes to order drinks. The bar is also expensive which you kind of expect in a hotel it was around £50-£70 per round and two of the drinks weren’t alcoholic drinks. We had booked the Brassiere for a meal after the Investiture for a celebration but we were disappointed in the quality of the food, so if you are looking to have a ‘nice’ meal for an event I would maybe suggest going elsewhere. Again I think the staff may have been new or training as service was slow and there were only three tables in. The hotel is lovely but it is an old building and there are a lot of stairs, we were on the first floor and had to go up three sets of stairs some of which were winding. My Grandfather is vision impaired and I had asked staff to put us in a room that had minimal stairs and it was as still 3 different staircases some small but still difficult, so if you struggle with stairs I would ring prior to booking to make sure you are on the first floor. I don’t know how we would have managed had we been on a higher floor. There are no lifts. If location is important to you and you just want somewhere to lay your head then it is a brilliant hotel, if you’re looking for a ‘special’ hotel then maybe it isn’t for you x

Dear Spla299 Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed and constructive review of The Sir Christopher Wren following your recent stay. The hotel is an extremely unique property and bedroom accommodation is split across five buildings. In the original main building we cannot add a lift due to restricted planning permission, however in Windsor House where our newest bedrooms are located, there is a lift to all floors. We also have a few DDA complaint bedrooms, available on request and perhaps one of these would have been more suitable for your Grandfather. Thank you for your lovely comments regarding our excellent buffet breakfast, we are thrilled that you nephew enjoyed it, especially the pancake machine. I am so sorry that you were disappointed with the Brasserie and the quality of the food served. The Sir Christopher Wren is the only hotel in Windsor with a riverside location, over looking Eton Bridge. As you know the hotel is also in the shadow of the Castle and is a short walk to the Theatre Royal and the town centre, so there is plenty to see and do, it really is a fabulous location. Customer feedback is important to us as we use it to measure our strengths and weaknesses, it is disappointing that the meal and service in the Brasserie and Bar, failed to meet your expectations. Your comments have already been shared with the Food & Beverage Manager and Head Chef. Thank you once again, for sharing your feedback, we wish your overall experience had been a more positive one. Kind regards Lesley Denyer Customer Service Manager

We loved this hotel… stayed here multiple times a year for the last 20 years. Customer service fell off, but we stayed. Now though… we have to move on. We didn’t want to believe it, but we are pretty sure we had bed bugs. This is my leg after one night. We were offered drink coupons and they changed our bedding, but still… it’s kinda horrible if this is bed bugs… which the bites seem to indicate based on feedback from pharmacist and friends.

Dear R1557PJjenniferh Thank you for taking the time to review the hotel following your recent stay. We love welcoming back our loyal, returning guests, however we are very shocked and disappointed that your recent stay failed to meet your expectations. Our team remember discussing the bites with you, however they recall that you discussed being bitten by a spider. However, in view of your comments, as per our standard operating procedure, as we take all allegation very seriously, our pest control company were called. I am delighted to confirm that your bedroom, was clear and free from infestation, your bites were not from bed bugs. We have the official report and will happily share it with you, if you would like a copy. Please do not hesitate to email the hotel directly, refer to your online review and we will share the official report. I am sorry that you feel our customer service has declined, especially as the team, offered to change your bedding and provide some complimentary drinks vouchers. It is always disappointing to receive negative feedback, we are sorry that you feel you cannot return, however, we are pleased that we have professionally investigated your concerns. Kind regards Lesley Denyer Customer Service Manager

I booked staying here for my friends birthday, the hotel is right in the centre of Windsor a stones throw away from Windsor Castle. Our room was lovely, spacious and clean. We were provided with the usual Coffee facilities, fridge etc. The Hotel itself overlooks the Thames and has a lovely court yard where you can sit in the sunshine. Breakfast was buffet style with lots of choice including cooked breakfast. We were given two drinks vouchers for booking directly with the hotel which was a nice touch you could order any drink. My only gripe would be the hotel parking at the station, the spaces are so small and the entrances to the spaces are not very wide if you have a larger car I wouldn't bother and pay for RingGo for a space in the regular station car park.
