On 11 November I booked a double room for 2 nights in January 2022 and in mid-December I found on my credit card statement that they had taken 2 lots of money for the booking. Here is a summary of the email conversation, spread over about a week, I had with them immediately after getting the statement: ME: For my booking you have taken 2 lots of money, please reimburse one lot asap. HOTEL: We took two because you made 2 bookings for the same night. You can either give the second booking to a friend or transfer it to another date before 31 March; you cannot have the money back. Let us know which you want to do by the end of next week. ME: But I knew nothing about the second booking because I never got a confirmation email, unlike the first correct booking; nor is the second booking mentioned on the confirmation I did get. HOTEL: For your records, here is the confirmation email for the second booking. You will notice that the confirmation number is only one digit different than the previous one you received [confirmation email was attached]. ME: [redacted verbatim text] “I am not at all happy with this response. It is unbelievable that you can only come up with a confirmation number when I noticed the additional amount on my statement and questioned the second booking, which as far as I am concerned I did not make. If this booking did indeed take place then why did I not receive this confirmation at the time? It doesn’t matter how close the digits are - the simple fact is that I did not receive a confirmation. I would now like to take up this discrepancy in your booking system with the manager (my number is X if they would care to talk to me); and if I do not receive the second payment of £Y back soon, I will bring the matter to the attention of online review websites.” HOTEL: Replied reiterating their position and my options but not answering any of my questions. I am now posting on the review sites so that people can decide about this themselves. I will also say that I am sorry to report this, as we have stayed at the hotel before and would probably have again if it had not had been for this: the hotel is in an ideal location for the riverside railway station, there is a spacious gym, the breakfast good, and the staff are helpful.

Our experience of the hotel was ok during an overnight stay but we didn't feel it was value for money. It's well located in central Windsor and close to one of the towns train stations and that is what you are paying for. The hotel has multiple buildings and our room was across the road from the reception. The room was modern and clean and to a reasonable standard but nothing exceptional. The public areas within the hotel are pleasant and all the staff we met friendly and helpful. We didn't notice any significant COVID measures in place during out stay. Food in the bar during the evening was good and reasonable value, bar service was generally good. Breakfast however was poor, its buffet style but was of low quality compared to other hotels we have stayed at for the price. The food wasn't hot or replenished regularly without asking. The hotel advertises allocated bookable parking in a sectioned off area of the train station car park (5 min walk to the hotel). We booked a space (which is at a premium compared to the normal rate for using the train car park) thinking this would reserve a space but it doesn't. We found them all occupied when we arrived in the early evening. There is no real difference between the standard parking spaces in the public car park (which are much cheaper) and the hotels 'section'. There are some signs indicating the spaces are private for the hotel but no barrier or controls in evidence. Both the public and hotel sections in the car park where full when we arrived and it took sometime to get a space. We couldn't understand what that the point of pre booking a parking space was and for the cost of the hotel not being able to park even when you have booked a space was really frustrating. Overall we found the hotel ok, but not worth the fairly high cost in our view.

Dear Gus Thank you for taking the time to review The Sir Christopher Wren Hotel, following your recent stay. I am delighted that you liked our location on the river, overlooking Eton Bridge, whilst being a short walk from the town centre. However, I am sorry that overall you had an average experience. We strive to offer good value for money, for a four star Windsor hotel, so I am disappointed that you feel we did not provide this. We make every effort to be transparent with all information appertaining to the hotels and the services provided. Currently, we advertise that we offer a limited number of offsite parking spaces and we also advise that our cost for parking, is higher than the cost of using the public car park meter. I am sorry that you were not aware of this as it is clearly stated on our website. I am sorry that this whole process was frustrating for you. It is always disappointing to receive negative feedback and despite enjoying our fabulous, unique location, I am sorry that your stay was only "Ok". Thank you for sharing your constructive comments, we only wish your stay with us had been a more positive experience. On half of all the team we would like to wish you a Happy New Year. Kind regards Lesley Denyer Customer Service Manager
