When we arrived we had a sandwich lunch and wine on the terrace, in the sunshine, overlooking the river, and it was lovely. Out room was not in the main hotel but across a pedestrian area in another building. The room was small but was ok. We had dinner in the restaurant, but the staff was under pressure because of shortages and service was slow. To be fair, the food was ok but looking round, there were many uncleared tables and loads of 'washing up' stacked on the bar. Breakfast was indifferent - unlike others we were not allowed to have breakfast on the terrace; service was poor and we had to queue for quite a while so the "chef" could put our choices from his trays of options on plates for us was laborious; the food wasn't very warm. I suspect staff shortages were behind most of our concerns.

As Windsor is one of my favourite towns we thought we would have afternoon tea again but this time on the outside terrace. Firstly we had to send the tea back because the tea pot had bits floating in it which was then in my tea cup and looked greasy and dirty. I wouldn’t say the cutlery was particularly clean and there was a very small selection of sandwiches and cake on offer When we did ask for more sandwiches, we had to ask twice before getting them. The ants seem to love the table and when we arrived it hadn’t been cleaned which is disappointing on both the cleanliness front but also under COVID rules Overall left disappointed and this was reflected in the lack of tip to the staff who I didn’t feel were very efficient,

We stayed in room 39, a signature room. The room had a terrace overlooking the river, with lovely views, but the terrace was filthy, cobwebs everywhere, the table had not been wiped and the floor needed a good sweep or jet wash. The room itself was ok, the bed comfortable and the in bath shower was decent. The toiletries offered were mediocre and the air conditioning unit was not very effective. The breakfast offering was disappointing, we breakfasted at 8am and the food from the buffet was lukewarm and had clearly been sitting around for some time. All the staff were very friendly and helpful, but for over £300 a night we were hoping for more.

Considering we spent £200+ to stay at this hotel for a night we expected a better service. We followed signs to check-in that took us across the road to an empty desk and chair, waited 10 minutes until someone came through after seeing us on the camera and said that this wasn’t the check-in desk and that it was back across the road. After telling him we’d followed the signs and pointing to them he shrugged and said to follow him. He then told the receptionist that they need to take the signs down to which the receptionist just said “yep”. After check-in we decided to have a couple of drinks at the Brasserie by the river. As we were getting to our table two ladies in front of us were giving bad feedback at reception and again the receptionist didn’t seem to care, didn’t even apologise that they’d had bad service. Once we sat down at the Brasserie it took over 30 minutes for two drinks to come because there was only one waitress working on a really hot day in a half term week. And bless her she was trying her best but the service was incredibly slow. She was very friendly and her customer service was great, but there definitely needed to be someone working the floor with her. Later on in the evening we ordered room service. My fiancé ordered a brownie with ice cream and the brownie was rock hard - it literally crunched when he bit into it. The room itself was a good size, the bed was comfy and the air-con was welcomed. Although if you’re on the ground floor don’t open your curtains because every man and his dog can look through from the building next door. Breakfast in the morning was okay. There was a big queue for the buffet but we expected there to be given the current circumstances. The chefs and waiters put your plate together for you which is a really good way of handling a buffet. We gave the benefit of the doubt given COVID but there were some aspects that were purely just bad service and could have been improved.

My 5-year old daughter, wife and I stayed for one night at this charming hotel. We arrived shortly before the 3pm check-in time but that wasn’t an issue, we were able to occupy our room immediately. The room, an executive room in the annex building across the street from the main building, was very clean, spacious and well appointed. After a brief walk around Windsor we returned to the hotel’s brasserie for a late lunch. The staff were attentive and the food was of a high quality. Breakfast, again in the brasserie, was great, lots of choice. As they were at lunch the day before, the staff were helpful and friendly. It was also at breakfast we had a brief insight into the profile of some of our fellow guests. Probably best described as older and perhaps more “discerning”, one particular table appeared to have a problem with almost everything, the coffee being too strong amongst their verbalised concerns. Stuff and nonsense, having enjoyed a pot of it myself. Why do I mention this? I suspect it’s just this type of guest who are responsible for some of the less favourable reviews concerning this property. To the aforementioned, I’d suggest trying a Saga property, for anyone else, I’d recommend this hotel wholeheartedly.
