I had a lovely afternoon tea with friends at this hotel. The service was friendly but lacked a little bit of fineness. Food was tasty, but I have had better. I would recommend the place, but I would look elsewhere, too.
We booked this hotel 8 months ago back in September for the Platinum jubilee celebrations . We booked 2 suites and a double room via booking .com we had received confirmation from both the hotel and booking . Com we even spoke to the hotel several times before arrival and our booking was found in the system ! When we arrived last Friday we tried to check in and miraculously our booking was not in the system ! They kept us sat in the lobby for 2 hours whilst a well “rehearsed “ act came into play. Our booking had not been transferred to them from booking . Com ! So they said ! Absolutely rubbish because we contacted booking . Com and no one from the hotel had contacted them ! They had managed to find us rooms at a sister property 7 miles away in Ascot however the rooms were not the standard we had booked ! The MACDONALD Windsor agreed to cover all taxi transfer costs between Windsor and ascot , also they credited us £42 for a round of drinks we had whilst waiting ! Now had that been booking . Coms issue they would not have done this . When we got into the taxi to the MACDONALD Ascot and we started telling the taxi driver what had happened he started laughing and said this happens all the time at special busy weekends and the hotel is well known for “bumping” off guests when they can re sell the rooms closer to events at premium rates as Windsor is short of hotel rooms . This Information was also confirmed by every other taxi driver we had . The hotels management to act in this way are totally totally unscrupulous and should hang their heads in shame . When you try to speak or meet with the manager he’s never available and doesn’t return requests to ring back . The annoying part of this they think customers are so stupid that they don’t know what game they are playing ! The availability of 3 rooms 7 miles away on a mega busy weekend clearly had been reserved for us to be “bumped “ off too. I would urge anyone to avoid booking in advance for this hotel for any special events because it’s very likely you will be “bumped” elsewhere in order for them to resell your room at premium cost closer to the event…
This was ok. Everything was ok. A lot of the average customer experience could be improved easily with more staff: - before I arrived i tried to book parking. I primarily picked this hotel because it had parking. It took TWO MONTHS to get that confirmed. That’s mad. - when we arrived at the carpark the phone just rings and rings and rings. Eventually we got let in. I tried calling the front desk also with no answer. - room was ready on time but check in is just ok. Very functional and long queue as no rooms seem to be ready early so everyone bundles back at 3pm. The concierge chap is standout amongst the team. They would easily deliver a better experience if there were just more people available to serve guests at peak times. The room is ok - style is nice, generally clean and comfortable. They are just a bit tired in places - our door in the bathroom has suffered water damage in the past and part of the veneer has come off showing the MDF underneath. Repair the door… the room could be excellent. A bit like the service, just a few tweaks and this would be a good standard. There’s no hand towels but slippers are provided. I’d go for hand towels first. The hot water was not working properly in 423 for me. The shower took a long time to warm up then when from too hot to too cold. Woke me up though. Breakfast was really good. No criticism here at all. Comfortable setting. Lots of staff! Great fruit juice, excellent quality produce, delicious. The other thing which is excellent is the location. You can’t get better. It’s straight outside the castle. Great for the castle, great for the horse show. So overall an average stay but the hotel could be improved with some east fixes.…
A catalogue of disasters Room wasn’t ready at 15:30 nor were those for at least a dozen other guests. Room had half drunk bottle of water in fridge and bin full of previous guests rubbish 1 barman on duty so a very long wait for a drink - £4 for a bag of crisps charged to another guest also seemed excessive Made the mistake of ordering room service food late at night - from the menu of various pizzas and sandwiches we ended up with cheese and ham being the only options Breakfast coffee served in paper cups All this and we paid neatly £300 for 1 night. I wouldn’t go back
We booked this hotel as I had ‘points’ from a timeshare to use up. I am so glad we did! The hotel was so well situated just across from the castle, the room was lovely and the breakfasts and dinner excellent. The whole experience was made so good by the very welcoming and helpful staff. They were so friendly and kind. Especially Matthew the concierge who helped us with car parking A really wonderful unexpected stay and would recommend
For the money we paid, we would expect more than average. We stayed for two nights. Our room was not cleaned at all despite our being out for the whole day, therefore we got no replacement toiletries, teas or towels. Pretty poor. The staff except the concierge (who was lovely) were not overly interested. At breakfast, we were asked if we wanted toast (the breakfast is self-service), but nothing else. We didn’t realise that there were other cooked options available (such as eggs, porridge). Overall, it has the location advantage for Windsor Castle, the hotel itself is good, but service somewhat slack.
Very nice hotel, friendly reception area including staff. Confortable rooms, well decorated. Tea box in the roon very average, missing white sugar, half empty. Breakfast (1st May) was very desapointing, desorganised, guests continuosly qeuing and waiting for hot food. Staff looked streched working hard but un interested on clearing dirty plates etc. Not the experience that we as guests want after a relaxed night sleep. Needs improvement to reflet the good quality of this hotel overall.
Mostly good, a few minor avoidable annoyances. Checking in, the lady who checked us in, and out, was lovely. Very friendly, warm and helpful. And the guy working concierge was the same. Room was nice and very clean. Annoyances were- There’s no information in the room. Nothing to indicate fire procedures, nothing about room service, check out policy, laundry cleaning, local information or anything like that. There was an ice bucket on a tray, so went in search for an ice machine on our floor. After roaming the halls I rang reception who told me they don’t have any. Now, the guy was lovely and brought me some, I would have happily got it myself from the bar however if there was an information sheet in the room I’d have known there wasn’t a self service machine. I’ve never been to a hotel that doesn’t give the guest information on their services and amenities, just bizarre. View from the room was awful. It looked out into other windows which showed hundreds of toilet rolls, presume a store cupboard. Breakfast the first day was great. Hot, fresh and plentiful. Was looking forward to it the second day and it was awful. Under cooked bacon, over cooked eggs and things completely run out. Considering this was 9:30 and they serve until 11, I’m not sure what went wrong. Unsure if I would stay again. Staff were great, room was nice, location perfect. Let down by the second breakfast and lack of even basic information in the room. You shouldn’t have to seek out amenity information in a hotel. I know Windsor well however if I was a guest in a new town and no information was offered in the room about the area I’d be very irritated.…
Stayed for 2 nights with family. Really good choice. Great location, car park, good freindly service, catering for vegans, clean and tidy everywhere Very good advise from helpful staff on what to visit and when. Cant fault it!
My (now) husband and I chose the Macdonald Windsor hotel as the venue for our wedding breakfast, following our ceremony in the beautiful Guildhall across the road. The events manager, Rachel Evans, made the experience of planning this not only simple but an actual pleasure. We were given plenty of menu choice, and the hotel succeeded effortlessly in negotiating several rather unusual dietary requirements. The food and its presentation and service were first class. The ambience of the hotel is stylish but also very welcoming and relaxing. All the staff we interacted with focused absolutely on us, and in a friendly manner. We are certainly recommending the Macdonald to our friends.
