We called for lunch on Sunday and chose the "steak and egg brunch" which was today's "special" The bar tender made at least six attempts at entering our meals into the till and sought guidance from thrree other members of staff before getting it right. The same person gave me a wine glass to go with my large bottle of... More

Room was very spacious and comfortable and well stocked with tea and coffee. Beautiful bathroom with bath and separate shower cubicle. Food in bar is typical Wetherspoon's, very good value for money. Can recommend the Aberdeen Angus steak, was lovely. Only 2 negatives. BEWARE Feather bedding (you must state when booking no feather bedding if allergic) and no parking (there... More

We stayed for one night - nice, clean, modern room. Staff were pleasant. Excellent location near the centre and walking distance to the shops. Good, cheap breakfast in the morning. Would recommend this hotel

The Inn was very picturesque. The beds were comfortable and the shower was amazing. The interior rooms were very modern and energy efficient. The Inn is very centrally located to shops, restaurants, and the riverfront walking path. The restaurant/pub in the Inn had great food options and was very reasonably priced. The staff were all very friendly.

Surprised how good this was, and value for money, the location was excellent. We stayed in two rooms on a busy Friday night, and despite initially worrying that the pub would be noisy, this as far from the truth, and we had a good, peaceful, sleep. Originally our friend was supposed to have room 213 which she queried reception to find... More

Good place to stay if you like history. Hotel quirky but fun and in great location for city. Reception to room was up and down stairs through doors left and right. Staff were friendly but not sickly sugary.

Pleasant room with comfortable bed, air conditioning, and large ensuite with raindrop shower. Delicious breakfast of American pancakes, bacon and maple flavour syrup, all warm, when I have eaten this breakfast in other Wetherspoons it has been given to me cold, this was a lovely surprise.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The site of this Wetherspoon pub has been occupied by an inn since the 15th century. By c1520, it was known as the King's Head, and it retained that name until it was rebuilt in the 1880s. The County Hotel was, itself, a change of name some time during the 1880s or 1890s. Before then, it was the Kings Head and Brewery. We have 33 individual bedrooms. All of our rooms are en suite and include tea- and coffee-making facilities, air conditioning, a hair dryer, TV and free Wi-Fi, also available in the pub. Please be aware that we are a Lloyds No 1 bar so we will be playing music in the pub from Thursday to Saturday nights. Limited quiet rooms are available so please telephone in advance to request one. We have no onsite parking but there is a city centre car park we recommend that is only a 3-5 minute walk away. You are able to stop on the pub entrance to unload your luggage before you go and park. ... more   less
