We loved our stay at this beautiful historic hotel. Staff very helpful and friendly. Room was a really good size with separate sitting area and lovely window seat overlooking street - great for people watching while reading a book. Really good location for sightseeing and a lot of good restaurants nearby. Will definitely be back

One of our favourite hotels and we are regular visitors, but unfortunately it seems that Covid is being used as an excuse for doing as little as possible. We visited earlier in the pandemic when restrictions were much stricter but nothing here has changed at all. We were staying for 4 nights and there was no housekeeping services at all during our stay, which nobody told us about. I had to go to reception to beg more towels, loo roll and coffee etc Bizarrely the staff entered the rooms when we were out to put these in, but can't clean the room? On arrival the coffee tray supplies were pretty dire, no edibles at all either. Definitely not up to their usual 4 star standards. And of course they are still charging full price!! On check in the man was very brusque and eager to get rid of me it seemed. No mention of the lack of housekeeping but was keen to know whether my car was in the carpark so he could charge me £15 per day! No offer of help with the bags either. The main bar and restaurant is closed, so feels awkward siting in the lounge during the evenings. Food is only served to your room, limited options but normal prices, including a £5 tray charge, apparently 3 plates don't fit on one tray so we were charged £10. As we had 2 rooms we witnessed the stark inconsistencies between rooms, one was absolutely fine, the other not so much so. The second room had no bottled water, hairdrier or iron like the first room. My wardrobe had one door totally missing. The positive points - the hotel and rooms still have that old rustic charm which is incomparable. The rooms and bathroom were really clean on arrival, loved the armchair by the window - great for people watching and the fridge is bonus. The location cannot be beaten, absolutely ideal for exploring and enjoying the town. Sadly on this occasion we were very underwhelmed and disappointed, sad to see such a lovely place decline like this. Everywhere else in town seems to be doing their best, but here they are using covid as an excuse to cut corners. We can only hope that when the pandemic recedes further there will be a return to its former glory.

From the outside this hotel looks beautiful but once inside it is drab, dirty and in need of major refurbishment. The bedroom was large and bed was very comfortable but the carpet was filthy, bathroom grubby and some of the previous guests toiletries left next to bath. The furniture was battered and old, the skip would be the most suitable place for most of it. In the two days that I was there, there was no evidences of corridors or bedrooms been cleaned. Breakfast was ok but not great quality. On a positive the staff were polite. Would not recommend and would not return.

Great hotel and quite spooky which i loved. Food was very nice with a lot to choose from. Very clean and in Covid times we felt very safe. The hotel is right in the centre of Stratford Upon Avon with lots of history and lovely walks. We would definitely recommend to anyone who loves old hotels with history and not far from the Cotswolds too if you want a day out in the car. Lots of lovely restaurants near by too.

Really disappointed with the standards in the bedroom. Broken lampshades. Mould on grouting joints in the bath. Wallpaper was peeling off. Furniture was dusty. Really not worth the money they charged.
