Enjoyed staying at this hotel. It may seem old but has lots of original Tudor features. Staff were friendly and attentative. Room was spacious and clean. Food was good but the restaurant service was quite limited due to staff shortage. Breakfast was excellent. The only down point was other guests on the same floor making lots of noises late at night but everything else was good. Would stay again.

Hotel's Favorite
Great centrally located hotel surrounded by restaurants, shops, heritage sites and relaxing park walks. Not sure where some people who gave bad reviews actually stayed...but our experience was the exact opposite. Friendly helpful staff, excellent breakfast, comfortable beds, lots of quirky 'breakout' areas to sit with friends. Yes the building is old and a little tired in places but it was built in the 1500's (Floors do creak)- It is not a mock up, so we were entirely happy. The heritage within and surrounding the building is amazing- but if you are expecting an ultra modern interior this is not for you. It has its own small car park but parking in it, and in Stratford, is expensive.(Part of the tourist experience!) All the staff were welcoming and polite and seemed to deal with everyone's requests with a smile. What more could you want? We were 4 ladies having a 'catch up' and we would recommend friends/family groups or couples to stay here.

Very disappointing- worst afternoon tea I’ve ever had. When we arrived I had to search for a member of staff. The scones were burnt, and cakes were stale. We had to ask for the gin and tonic when the waiter eventually appeared again, he had bought out the tea and just disappeared. The room we were in looked abandoned - no atmosphere whatsoever. Really bad.

We purchased a Groupon voucher for a gin afternoon tea for two. I had contacted the hotel in advance to advise of dietary requirements and had requested any vegan options that they may have available for myself, along with a regular afternoon tea for my husband. We were greeted by a very pleasant lady at the hotel and shown to our table. She was already aware of my requirements, so far so good. Unfortunately, things started to go downhill from then onward. Two pots of tea were brought out to us promptly, however it was lukewarm and had gone cold within minutes of being poured. The afternoon tea stands then followed almost immediately implying that they had been made up in advance of our arrival. The gin could also have been presented better, it was basically a glass of ice with a straw. My vegan sandwiches had to be the most unimaginative selection possible. Two triangles of grated cheese and margarine and two triangles of lettuce and a thin scraping of hummus. This is supposed to be a four star hotel, is this the best the chef can come up with? The scones had to be the smallest, flattest I have seen. I'm no chef but I can make a far better vegan scone than the ones I was presented with at The Shakespeare Hotel, in fact they are incredibly easy to make, therefor no excuses for an establishment such as this! The scones fell apart as soon as they were cut in half. Strangely these were not served with a dairy free cream alternative, instead, I was presented with a large dish of greasy margarine. As this was served in exactly the same way that my husbands cream was presented, I mistook this for vegan cream. This, along with the excessive crumbling ruined the scones. It should have been explained when the stands were presented to us that they didn't have a dairy free cream alternative available. In fact nothing was explained, the stands were put on the table and the waitress walked away, never to interact with us again! The cake selection was just as bad, two pieces of the same dry flapjack and two mini chocolate cupcakes. At least my husband had more choice on his regular afternoon tea, I instead was served two of everything! At no point were we offered any tea top ups, nor were we asked if everything was okay with the food. Once we had been served, the waitress made no attempt to speak to us again. Despite a warm welcome, I feel she let us down, particularly by not explaining the content of our afternoon tea stands. I expected more of a so called four star hotel. Cold tea, unimaginative vegan selection and lacklustre service. My husbands regular afternoon tea didn't fare much better but at least he had more selection!

We booked a cheap overnight stay. £44 for one night for a couple including breakfast, so a good deal. Location was perfect. Right in the centre of Stratford town centre. When we booked we requested a quiet room and we got a room at the back of hotel which was very quiet. I imagine a room at the front of the hotel by the road will be more noisy. We didn’t want to pay £15 for the hotel over night parking so we parked on street just out of town near Beech Close then walked back to the hotel which took us fifteen minutes ( a pleasant walk past the river and back through town). The hotel is old and dated but in keeping with such an older building, floors were creaky but not a problem for us. No interaction with staff but again not a problem. The bed was comfy and the hotel was lovely and warm, it was quiet overnight so we slept well. Breakfast was ok. Plenty of choice. We had pots of freshly ground coffee. Apple juice and a full English. Stratford is a great town to visit. We really enjoyed it and there wasn’t anything to dislike about the hotel especially considering the low price we paid.
