This recently refurbished boutique hotel is housed in a 400 year old listed building in the heart of Stratford upon Avon. Located opposite Shakespeare's school, among the ancient half-timbered buildings the town is famous for and only 2 minute's walk to the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. This is THE place for a pre-theatre supper - local pianists play at 5.30pm daily and the atmosphere is great. The 12 funky en-suite bedrooms vary in size, cost and view. Try for a room at the front of the building for the perfect view. Great food is served all day, through till 10pm in this buzzy neighbourhood bistro with Afternoon Tea a particular favorite. Champagne Happy Hour is every Friday at 5pm and the bar is packed with a great, upmarket local crowd. The staff make the place and nothing is too much trouble.

Recent 2 night stay for the first time in Straford-upon-Avon. Was so pleased with the hotel lovely room, very nice staff and very comfortable. Right in the center of town and walkable around town (however may want to get a cab from the train station) The room was immaculate remember it's a 420 year old house so narrow stairs and a grand staircase and floors slope a bit bit adds to the charm and character Highly recommend it, continental breakfast complimentary and cooked breakfast an additional fee. Also lovely seeing locals at the bar and restaurant, that speaks a lot Never did meet the owners, would have been nice too, but staff was lovely. Have already recommended it to UK friends.

Popped in for Breakfast with my owners . I was extremely well looked after , I was given a bowl of water and my owners got me a sausage, while they ate their very good breakfast , which was served by a friendly team. I will be making sure we return. Portia . 🐾 🐾

Excellent two night stay at The Townhouse. Location wise - The Townhouse couldn’t be better placed for doing all of the ‘touristy’ things you’d want to do in Stratford. It’s right opposite Shakespeare’s school/the Guildhall chapel and Shakespeare’s New Place, with a hop on/off bus stop outside the chapel. As for hospitality at The Townhouse, the staff were wonderful and extremely helpful. Breakfasts were really tasty with plenty of choices. Many thanks to Gerard for organising a surprise of Buck’s Fizz and birthday muffins at breakfast on the morning of my husband’s birthday. Our room was really nice with a very comfortable bed. As for parking, as per The Townhouse website, it states the nearest parking is the NCP car park. However, they provide a discount code to use for the car park. You can pull up outside the hotel whilst you drop off/collect your bags. The car park is only a short walk from the hotel. We’d definitely stay again at The Townhouse. Highly recommend the hotel.

This is a well looked after property where attention to detail is met with genuine hospitality. Dan is a very kind host ensuring you have everything you need for a great stay. The restaurant has a sophisticated ambiance which is followed through by an efficient dinner service with freshly produced dishes which are of a good portion size and are very reasonably priced. The hotel is very close to the centre and definitely one of the best in the area. A boutique class hotel property which doesn't disssapoint.

I booked a one night stay in the superior king room for my husbands birthday. We arrived just before mid day and stopped by to drop our bags off… didn’t really get much of a greeting at all, was just told to leave out bags in the reception corner. The lady didn’t ask our names or anything which we found a little odd and we didn’t feel great knowing anyone could just walk away with our bags. We went out for lunch and popped back just before 3 hoping our room might be ready… this time we were greeted by a man who when I spoke to him, only addressed my husband. Every question I asked a question he would looked at my husband to answer! The room wasn’t ready at 3pm and we were told it would be a while but weren’t given a time. We weren’t offered a hot drink (it was freezing out) so we went to the bar and paid for a two alcoholic drinks. As our room wasn’t ready it would have been good customer service to at least offer us a cup of tea on the house! No general small talk and we weren’t made to feel welcome which is such a shame as this place is full of charm and really could be a home from home. We had room 12 which was a really good size but honestly could do with a deep clean. The walls and carpets need to be cleaned and there’s mould in the shower tray. A little more attention to detail and the room would have been perfect! We made coffee in our room but the milk must of been off as we had little bits floating on top. The breakfast included was continental and the warm croissants were really lovely. Unfortunately, when we sat on the soft seating area for breakfast the seats were covered in crumbs yet we were the first to arrive for breakfast at 8am… assuming these were from the day before!! The glass juice jugs were quite watermarked and looked rather dirty so we opted to not have any juice. We felt these kind of things really did let the hotel down as it’s such a simple fix. It really just needs some tlc. The hotel has gorgeous decor and the bed was really comfy. We enjoyed a both and a hot shower before we left… the toiletries smelt amazing! The room was lovely and warm and there was a fridge so we were able to enjoy a glass of wine while getting ready for our meal out: The hotel really could just do with a bit of a shine which would have made this hotel a truly remarkable stay. Such a shame to feel a little let down when you spend a nice amount of money! On leaving, we weren’t asked how our stay was, we were just told thanks when we gave the key back. Again, a little customer service would have been nice!!

Wife and I visited the Townhouse for an overnight stay to see friends and sightsee. The townhouse was very good value . The location is perfect, because you are right in the historic town centre.
Our Room was clean and roomy and Boutique rather than a chain type decor. It had a great roomy shower, a comfy King Size bed and plenty of power points for those with laptops and phones etc to charge simultaneously.
Tea and Coffee making is in the room, plus bottled water and conveniently, an iron.
Service from all staff was perfect at the bar and restaurant and also at the check-in which is nicely not in the bar but at a separate area.
The included Continental Breakfast (cooked is available at a fee) was more than adequate.
Parking if required is at Rother Street NCP and if you download the NCP Park Pass App before entering the car park, you can then use a discount code from the Hotel to get cheaper the parking fees.
I would definitely stay there again

Charming boutique hotel/inn that is well matched with the charming town of Stratford-upon-Avon. Proprietors very hospitable and friendly, welcoming and helpful with suggestions. No lift, but classy, well appointed rooms with no cookie-cutter hotel chain experience. Rooms are above their somewhat upscale, carefully thought out restaurant/bar. Fantastic continental breakfast, sometimes included in price depending how you book, and they are also able to do hot breakfast for a fee (no need!) Great experience for the price. Would not look anywhere else in Stratford if we returned!

Stopping off in Stratford on Avon for some R&R on our way back from visiting the family in North Wales and Derbyshire, we discovered that The Townhouse was the ideal location, within easy walking distance of all the attractions. The friendly welcome included an upgrade to a room on the first floor when the lady realised that my husband would find the stairs an effort. Our room was huge, with en suite plus a big bath (though we didn't use it) and an extremely comfortable bed. It was during the really hot spell and there were a couple of fans going. The substantial continental breakfast was excellent and we also enjoyed good dinners on both evenings. Throughout our stay we were impressed by the friendliness of all the staff, in what is clearly a very difficult year for them business-wise. Parking was at an NCP car park a few minutes walk away, with the hotel providing a ticket which gave us a discount.

Beautiful hotel, friendly staff and comfortable stay.
The *only* negatives are that the parking is off site but very local… £15 per 24hours if I remember correctly. Plus you can add time on via their app… not the dodgy ncp car park!!
The room could be cleaner, but that’s being very picky… oh and could benefit from a nespresso machine 😉.
But anyway, we will consider you again if we stay that way! Thank you

I’m sorry to have to write a less effusive review than previous contributors. First impressions of the hotel are very good with what seems to be a well presented interior, friendly and helpful staff, a comfortable ambiance and an impressive staircase to all the rooms. However, it didn’t take much to notice that the carpet on the stairs was old, becoming threadbare and needing a clean. This theme continued to our room. The room seemed impressive at first but was immediately let down by a strong, lived smell. I tried to open the windows, but they were in a poor state of repair and could only open a few inches and with some effort. The bathroom smelled of damp and the ceiling over the shower was damp, slightly mouldy and with peeling paint. It didn’t take much to notice that what was once a very good carpet was filthy and hadn’t been cleaned properly in years. The soft furnishings smelled lived in and were stained ( something I noticed about the upholstered bench in the restaurant too). I did report to the very nice member of staff on duty who said the hotel’s owners (a small chain called whose name I can’t remember), hadn’t invested in the property for years. The staff really were very friendly and apologetic. Such a shame.

As we are so fabulously central, unfortunately we do not have our own car park. We do, however, have great reduced rates with the local NCP car park on Rother Street. Come and see us first on arriving in Stratford-upon-Avon. You can then drop off any bags that you may have and we can direct you around to the car park. Our rate for hotel guests is just £4.50 per 24 hours.
Yes - there are hairdryers and hair straighteners in each room at the Church Street Townhouse.
Our check in time is usually 3pm and check out by 11am, but, if the room is available, we may be able to arrange early checkin or late check out. Of course, you are always welcome to drop off bags early or leave them to collect them later.
If you have specific times in mind, why not drop us an email us directly or ring on 01789 262222?
