Travelers' Choice
This recently refurbished boutique hotel is housed in a 400 year old listed building in the heart of Stratford upon Avon. Located opposite Shakespeare's school, among the ancient half-timbered buildings the town is famous for and only 2 minute's walk to the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. This is THE place for a pre-theatre supper - local pianists play at 5.30pm daily and the atmosphere is great. The 12 funky en-suite bedrooms vary in size, cost and view. Try for a room at the front of the building for the perfect view. Great food is served all day, through till 10pm in this buzzy neighbourhood bistro with Afternoon Tea a particular favorite. Champagne Happy Hour is every Friday at 5pm and the bar is packed with a great, upmarket local crowd. The staff make the place and nothing is too much trouble.

After a long winter, we decided we needed to get away for a night, and we couldn't have picked a better place! The team were so helpful on anything we needed! And the breakfast was phenomenal. There was live music in the bar in the evening which was tasteful and not too loud. The food from the restaurant was so good we had to book a table. Excellent experience all round. + who doesn't love being able to watch a movie in the bath! Everything was clean and the service was splendid!

Lovely hotel. Our room, No 2, was great. An amazing bath, enormous bed, clean, warm and comfortably furnished. Continental breakfast was great. Staff were friendly and chatty. Central location. Car park across the road and. Hotel has a lively and well stocked bar. A great weekend getaway.

I stayed for one night, and I’m so pleased I chose this hotel. I had Room 10 which was extremely spacious. Lovely carpet, great decor, comfy bed. Plenty of tea and coffee choices. It was so quiet overnight, I had the perfect sleep. Breakfast was continental, with an extra charge for cooked. There was enough choice to keep you filled up for the morning. Friendly staff. Allowed me to keep my bags safe while I explored for the morning, before heading home.

Recent 2 night stay for the first time in Straford-upon-Avon. Was so pleased with the hotel lovely room, very nice staff and very comfortable. Right in the center of town and walkable around town (however may want to get a cab from the train station) The room was immaculate remember it's a 420 year old house so narrow stairs and a grand staircase and floors slope a bit bit adds to the charm and character Highly recommend it, continental breakfast complimentary and cooked breakfast an additional fee. Also lovely seeing locals at the bar and restaurant, that speaks a lot Never did meet the owners, would have been nice too, but staff was lovely. Have already recommended it to UK friends.

Stayed for one night on our way up north. Great location and pretty building. Our room and ensuite were a great size and well cleaned. Bed was super comfortable. Bathroom was a little tired and water and tea/coffee making facilities would have been welcomed.

Excellent hotel in the centre of Stratford. The building has plenty of history and character. Rooms are well-furnished, beds incredibly comfortable, and cleanliness is perfect. Great service, and a really nice breakfast in the morning. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again (hope to do so soon!).

I booked a one night stay in the superior king room for my husbands birthday. We arrived just before mid day and stopped by to drop our bags off… didn’t really get much of a greeting at all, was just told to leave out bags in the reception corner. The lady didn’t ask our names or anything which we found a little odd and we didn’t feel great knowing anyone could just walk away with our bags. We went out for lunch and popped back just before 3 hoping our room might be ready… this time we were greeted by a man who when I spoke to him, only addressed my husband. Every question I asked a question he would looked at my husband to answer! The room wasn’t ready at 3pm and we were told it would be a while but weren’t given a time. We weren’t offered a hot drink (it was freezing out) so we went to the bar and paid for a two alcoholic drinks. As our room wasn’t ready it would have been good customer service to at least offer us a cup of tea on the house! No general small talk and we weren’t made to feel welcome which is such a shame as this place is full of charm and really could be a home from home. We had room 12 which was a really good size but honestly could do with a deep clean. The walls and carpets need to be cleaned and there’s mould in the shower tray. A little more attention to detail and the room would have been perfect! We made coffee in our room but the milk must of been off as we had little bits floating on top. The breakfast included was continental and the warm croissants were really lovely. Unfortunately, when we sat on the soft seating area for breakfast the seats were covered in crumbs yet we were the first to arrive for breakfast at 8am… assuming these were from the day before!! The glass juice jugs were quite watermarked and looked rather dirty so we opted to not have any juice. We felt these kind of things really did let the hotel down as it’s such a simple fix. It really just needs some tlc. The hotel has gorgeous decor and the bed was really comfy. We enjoyed a both and a hot shower before we left… the toiletries smelt amazing! The room was lovely and warm and there was a fridge so we were able to enjoy a glass of wine while getting ready for our meal out: The hotel really could just do with a bit of a shine which would have made this hotel a truly remarkable stay. Such a shame to feel a little let down when you spend a nice amount of money! On leaving, we weren’t asked how our stay was, we were just told thanks when we gave the key back. Again, a little customer service would have been nice!!

Excellent location for all the attractions. My room was very spacious with a large bathroom. Good choice of tea and coffee and there was fresh milk and bottled water in the fridge. Bed was king size and extremely comfortable. Overlooks a quiet street so had an undisturbed sleep. Tasty, fresh croissants available for continental breakfast along with fruit and cereals but no yogurt on my second day as they had run out which isn’t good management. There did seem to be a shortage of staff during my stay but it was very enjoyable and overall excellent value for money.

Comfortable bed in room overlooking a main street. Good tea and coffee and fresh milk in fridge. Very good staff at reception - BUT they were - or rather he was - overstretched - giving out keys, serving drinks, carrying bags, taking food orders - all in a busy environment. Our key wouldn’t lock the door - another problem for them to sort (couldn’t other than fetch them each time we wanted it locked). Food at early dinner underwhelming - loads of places in Stratford more interesting for same price. We paid directly which was slightly pricier than booking.com in order to secure complimentary cooked breakfast. When we arrived downstairs the next morning at 9am they said they couldn’t offer breakfast as they had “supply issues”. Toast was only hot option. Surely there was a local shop that they could have grabbed “supplies” from? Poor management obviously the issue here? I wouldn’t take the risk on this being resolved by the time of a next visit.
