The easyHotel Newcastle City Centre offers a no-frills experience that is functional for short-term stays, boasting a prime location in the heart of the city. While the service receives commendation for its friendliness and helpfulness, opinions on the hotel's value and cleanliness are split, with some guests satisfied and others pointing out maintenance and upkeep issues. The rooms are basic, with notable absences such as kettles, yet their central location near metro stops and attractions is a highlight for visitors.

Like any easy brand, the easyHotel chain has a reputation for no-frills hotel stays where you only pay for what you need. Surprisingly, it still led for a quite comfortable stay without feeling like the offering was lacking. Extra charges are required for a range of services, including use of WIFI and the TV in the room, but necessary items, such as soap and towels, are still provided free of charge.

Check-in was friendly and smooth, with the lobby being clean but basic. Other areas of the hotel, such as the lift and some of the corridors, were showing wear and tear, as well as a need for some cleaning.

The room itself has the best view I’ve had, so far, in accommodation in Newcastle. Very impressive for such a budget hotel. The room was nicely designed, albeit with a slight feel that the whole thing came from Ikea. There was a few little details such as the lack of a bin in the main room, bottle marks left on the shelf above the sink in the bathroom, and a shower door which seemed to open the wrong way, which stopped the room from reaching amazing.

The largest potential drawback to the hotel is its location just off the Quayside. Being within the Nightlife area of Newcastle, this can be seen in the people and its surroundings, and in the fact that the hotel has its own security guard stationed in the lobby at night. Although I never had any hassle, nor was disturbed by any noise, it would make me have second thoughts of booking the hotel at the weekend. Otherwise, it is conveniently located for the central train station and city centre shopping.

I would definitely choose to stay here again in the future, particularly if I’m just looking for a very affordable place to stay for the night.

Budget hotel and so you get what you pay for but I liked it here and although a single traveler I secured a tidy double room (no windows) which served me well. Some noisy neighbours on the first night but this was the leftover weekend crowd and they checked out. Cool location near the quay just one tip when waling up to the city centre take the very pleasant steps from the quayside to avoid being pooped on by the seagulls on the bridge! You will see what I mean.

Hello RCough, Thank you for staying with easyHotel Newcastle. We are pleased our super budget hotel concept suited your needs! Our philosophy is to offer an affordable room rate, always in attractive city locations. Please accept our apology for small disturbance during your stay. Newcastle is well known for its popular night life and since all Covid restriction were recently lifted, revellers want to make the most of it! However, our team members are doing regular floor walks during the day and night to ensure your safety and comfort is maintained on high level. Speaking about the seagulls nesting on the way to our hotel, I feel your pain. Believe me or not, I have already been hit twice! We hope to see you again soon. Kind regards, Dan

I booked to stay here via Booking.Com and paid £28 per double room for 2 doubles for a friend and myself. Due to the cheap price I wasn’t expecting the Ritz and was anticipating somewhere basic.
The rooms are very clean, basic with a comfy bed, en-suite shower... tv and WiFi costs extra so we didn’t bother... air con and the room was warm and adequate for a night or two. The reception staff were very helpful.
The location is fairly central and near to some nice places to drink, eat and visit so I would imagine it would be busy on Friday and Saturday nights. We stayed on a Tuesday and it was very quiet.
I would not hesitate to stay here again on future visits to Newcastle.

We didn't go with high expectations due to the reviews about rooms sizes and cleanliness and we were still disappointed. The duvet and duvet cover were disgusting and there were hairs on our sheets. The wooden floor looked dirty and I didn't dare walking barefoot. The hotel is very dirty throughout, the carpets look filthy. The noise of the air con units outside was unbearable so we didn't sleep much. The TV wasn't working and we were told that we would get complimentary wi-fi and late checkout instead... We didn't need either. The bathroom looked clean but it was odd. The toilet was very high and the mirror is placed right in front of the toilet. The shower was good though. There are no hangers, there was only one chair and bedside table. The bed was comfortable enough but I didn't dare to touch the wall or the headboard. The blind on the VELUX window was good and kept the room dark enough. The air con worked. Location is very handy.

Stayed here on Valentines Night. Not for some romentic trip and walk by the Tyne but because my daugher was checking out the Uni.

Paid Premium rates but all the hotels whack their prices up when demand exceeds supply.

Reception staff very efficient and friendly. Room is basic and that is all you get.No Tea, Coffee, Pay extra for wifi, tv and virtually anything else you want. You don't have to pay for shower gel and water. Shower very good and Villeroy and Boch Sanitaryware.... That suprised me!!! and not in keeping with the budget feel.

A couple of cups in the room would have helped even plastic or paper as I know they wouldn't want to go to the expense. Maybe you could charge us 1p or 2p for a paper cup!

Hotel is probably best suited as just a bed for the night after a few bevies around town chasing the half clothed local beauties but a 10am checkout is a tad early for a hangover. !!. Relaxing and Comfortable it ain't.

No car parking but the Quayside Car park is a 5 minute walk. Free 5pm to 8am then £1.10 per Hour.

It is what it is.

Hello Jonathan J, Thank you for providing us with a review regarding your recent stay at easyHotel Newcastle! We hope your daughter was impressed by our local universities, education within Newcastle is a brilliant experience and our nearby universities score quite highly competitively! We hope they were able to make an impression! As our organisation aims to tackle the significant waste production seen in most hotels, we do this by limiting our stay clean services, reducing our paper usage and almost eliminating our plastics use. As such we do not provide plastic cups within our rooms. As you suggested paper cups we have considered this as an alternative but we are still discussing alternatives. Its always a pleasure to read positive comments regarding our staff, we’ve got a good bunch at our site and we’re always pleased to hear they make a positive impact on our guests experiences within Newcastle! They’ll be pleased to hear their efforts are appreciated. Our superbudget concept is aimed to cater towards simplicity, pay for what you need and a place to retire after a city exploration, shopping or businessy day. We firmly believe in keeping it simple and cheap. Providing city centre locations as a primary focus allowing for our guests to get to where they want to be at the most affordable cost. We have looked into our rates during your time with us and discovered the valentines day rates at that time were still certainly within the average of a typical Friday in Newcastle of about £40-55. Hotel rates do vary depending on demand within the area which is why no hotel has a set price, a Sunday will likely be cheaper than a Saturday incase you’ve seen cheaper rates from us previously. This is how our industry operates. We wish your daughter the best of luck in her upcoming future and hope shes found the perfect fit and hope you’ll choose to use our value for money concept again shortly! Kind regards, Stephen

I am always a bit apprehensive about EasyHotel as they are really the bargain basement of hotels, but this one was a generally positive one. I stayed twice in a week so had the chance to experience two different rooms. The location is decent enough, the bed was comfortable too. I had paid the slight premium for a window (was only £1 extra for my stay) which was worthwhile.

However, I had a different room experience on the two stays – the first stay I had a good room on the 3rd floor, with some good space to manoeuvre, multiple plugs and a side table, plus proper window and curtains. My second stay I instead had a top floor room, with a sloped roof and skylight with a slightly poor window blind, no side table and barely any floor space. Whilst the second stay cost me about £3 less, given I had booked the exact same room type this did not seem fair as the second room was worse.

The rooms were clean, but maintenance needed some improvement – the sockets were damaged and the toilet seat loose in my first room, and in the second room the drain was semi-blocked. I also had issues with the air con system and controls (needed due to the old building making it very hot otherwise), and I had no TV remote initially (resolved once I asked). I do not mind pointing out minor things, but it was clear things were not being checked often enough.

I also get that it is a budget hotel and they want to upsell to you, but the checkout at 10am is too early especially given bag storage costs money. Even going to 10.30 or 11am would make a big difference and time to go and get breakfast. There as there is no kettle, something basic like a free microwave/hot water at reception would be a small cheap compromise as even a hostel provides features like this.

Overall, it’s a decent place for a few nights at the right price – for me around £30, great for the city centre, clean, quiet and comfortable enough. But the rates rocket especially on weekends and if it was higher I'd go elsewhere, Newcastle is pretty well connected so head further out if needed.

Hi Tom, Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us. We're pleased to hear you enjoyed our lovely location - we can't get enough of it either! We are a little different from other easyHotels in that we are in an older, Grade II listed building that has been refurbished into a hotel; this means we have some variation in our room types and sizes, as you have noted, but it also means we are bursting with character. Our fourth floor is where we get to show off some of this character and uniqueness - we love these rooms for their cosy feel but we accept they are not for everyone. As we allocate rooms at check in, it can be hard to guess someone's taste! We carry out regular maintenance checks around the building to keep on top of any wear and tear issues, but occasionally we do miss things - if a room is occupied while we are doing checks, for example. Our concept is budget and minimalist, we aim to encourage our guests to go out and explore the area so we keep our room amenities to a minimum - we are the perfect place to drop off your bags while you head out to find your new favourite coffee place. easyHotel does have a coffee machine in reception that is available 24/7. Thank you again for your feedback, and we hope to see you again soon. Kind regards, Lilianna easyHotel Newcastle

Stayed one night I booked through booking.com I was rather disappointed to be told I would need to pay supplements for both wi-fi and television if I wanted to use them.

The accommodation if fine but could do with a good clean. It's my first time I have used an easy hotel and would not choose to stay again lots of other hotels in the area where tv and wi-fi are included it's a complete rip off it did not say on the booking.com site these would be chargeable
I did mention this to reception but they replied if you book direct with hotel no additional charges would be made it's because I booked via a third party ie booking.com I will need to pay extra. Never heard such stupidity. I saw no point to discuss further with the receptionist as they are unhelpful

I will be taking this up with trading standards

Thank you

Hello Donall, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with feedback regarding your stay at easyHotel Newcastle. You will notice on both your confirmation, booking site information for our hotel and the direct messages sent through the booking.com platform that our concept is based around a superbudget framework. We keep our services simple and offer additional extras should our guests require them. This is clearly advertised. Likely our reception desk was informing you that our loyalty program clubbedzzz offers wifi as part of its rate plan when booking. Other hotels may offer wifi hidden with the room rate charge however we provide the cheapest available accommodation within Newcastle city centre with no hidden extras, presumably this is why our hotel was attractive to you. We encourage you to take your booking information to trading standards, they will highlight this information to you. Kind regards, Stephen

A trip completely marred by the experience in Reception on arrival. Whilst the location was excellent and the actual room/bathroom a level above Its immediate competitors, the apparent Company requirement and policy for patrons to provide ID was absurd. If, as appears to be the case, it was to prove that a grey haired, balding 53 year father was over 18 years old then the world has gone mad. It is not, so I understand, UK law for UK citizens to carry ID and I have never been asked for ID when staying at far more prestigious hotels in the UK. To be threatened with being barred entrance, after driving over 250 miles to Newcastle with my daughter and, in not travelling with my passport or driving licence was beyond ridiculous. Reception at the hotel treated me as if I was a criminal and either EasyHotel need to re-train their staff or, if that is part of the company’s policy and T&C, then EasyHotel need to reflect on their policies. The UK does not require its citizens to carry ID and until it is a legal requirement then do not treat its paying customers as if they are breaking the Law.

Hello CPR1609, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. Firstly, we're so pleased to read you enjoyed our super central location and found our en-suites and rooms to be of a very high standard. Although we're a super budget brand, we don't believe in compromising on standards. We apologise if you feel our requirement for ID is unnecessary and certainly the staff would never intentionally make someone feel like they're a criminal, in fact the opposite, we believe in treating everyone fairly which is exactly why we ask everyone for ID. This is specified prior to booking and also is highlighted twice in your confirmation and reminder email prior to arrival so it's a shame this policy came as a shock to yourself when requested upon check in. We do advise all guests to ensure all T&Cs and their confirmation are read fully prior to arrival. There are many reasons why we require this information such as Track & Trace and also in line with our upcoming online check in system which allows us to ensure those who have booked are who are staying in the hotel. We hope this clarifies the situation a little for yourself and we hope you would give us another chance in the future. Kindest Regards, easyHotel Management

The long landscape mirror is located above the double bed and we couldn't see ourselves in the mirror at all, we had to stand on the bed, and we are not that short, approx 5'5. Bedroom is small and dark. There is a window but we had to close the curtains all the time to avoid other bedrooms right on the corner of us looking at us which meant no natural light for us, and on the website there was an option for no window, or an option to have it with a window which was an extra charge, which I didn't mind paying a little extra to get some extra light in, but had to keep the blinds closed the entire time become of the layout of the other rooms! So I essentially paid extra for nothing! Dropping of bags comes with a charge which is unfair, and walls are so thin we could hear everything, from people walking and talking in the hall and room next to us so barely got any sleep. Not the best bedding, but for the price, it is what it is. Door to the bathroom is definitely not private enough. It is made of glass, which is tinted/cloudy so obviously couldn't see completely inside, but could still see general figures when looking at the door. We were staying with family so it was okay but if I came with a friend I would not be comfortable with that at all. Also the website and leaflets stated that there was free Wi-fi during your stay but really you only get 30 minutes free for your entire stay and if you want more then they charge you. Almost used up all my phone data! Staff were nice but we would never stay here again or recommend to anyone. Would give a 1 star only for the amazing location. If anywhere else, if 0 stars was an option, I would put it.

Firstly was looking forward to staying at the hotel as the location was perfect . After stepping in through the door the service was poor and not enjoyable. Firstly I had to check in the receptionist did not acknowledge I was on the telephone . After finishing the call no apologies to me . Then checked me in paid an extra £10 .00 for late check out which I accepted then was asked would I like WiFi for an extra fee I declined straight away , the price I paid for my room was more expensive then hotels I book that offer free WiFi , i had to pay for the tv should I require it too which is not right . I then checked into my room very small it was a double bed but I could barely move around the room . I then needed a iron which in most hotels including Travelodge is in the bedroom I then had to waste my time looking for the laundry room where the iron was broke and I ended up burning my expensive shirt . I then decided to go out to a bar then half an hour I returned as I needed a mask . I approached the receptionist who was busy on a call a young security man rudely told me to sush and actually the call was on his mobile phone so it seemed like not even a business related call. Again no apology and not even a helpful answer from the receptionist very poor customer service . Will definitely not be staying at this hotel ever again and will make my friends and family aware of the poor level of service at this hotel .

Hello Marvin, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We're very sorry to hear you did not enjoy your recent stay with us. We pride ourselves on great customer service so we're very sorry to hear we fell short of your expectations. This will be addressed with our team members to ensure all guests are acknowledged. As a lone working business model, unfortunately this does mean sometimes our staff can be occupied with duties such as answering telephone calls. We will feedback to our third party security provider regarding your comments on their approach to ensure improvements are made. We are a super budget brand and don't believe in guests paying for things they don't use, so rather than increase our nightly rate to 'include' extras, we offer a low pricing option to tailor make your stay. We no longer charge for the use of TV's as we listened to feedback and are always looking to improve our guests' overall experience. Again, apologies for not being able to provide a great experience for yourself, we do hope you will give us another try in the future to show you what we can do. Kind Regards, Leanne
