Surroundings are fantastic and we particularly enjoyed the wire dogs on display. The menu sounds great but we were often disappointed with the final product - some flavours did not seem to go together and limited vegetarian choice. Desserts are fabulous.

Had a very relaxing and gracious Sunday lunch here with friends. The quality of the food, presentation and staff were excellent throughout, and portions are about right. Drinks are rather more expensive than usual.

My friend and I had an overnight stay as a birthday treat. We couldn't find fault with this beautiful hotel and the amazing staff. It is a 5 minute walk from the metro in lovely surroundings and the building itself is fascinating as it was an old school. We were greeted by a friendly reception who informed us we had... More

Had afternoon tea with a friend, lovely sandwiches, scones & various cakes with a spot of earl grey and a walk around the grounds afterwards in the lovely summer sun. Will definitely be coming back again

Stayed here with the family after the children had completed the Junior GNR and the night before I was due to run the GNR. We had 2 deluxe rooms (1 & 2) in the main building. The bedrooms and bathrooms were very spacious with high ceilings and large windows with beautiful curtains and everything was clean and sparkling. The beds... More

Needed somewhere to stay for the GNR weekend and while I knew I could get something considerably cheaper I thought that I deserved something special after running 13.1 miles - and Jesmond Dene House didn't disappoint. The staff were friendly and courteous - nothing was too much trouble, even my bag was taken to my room. The room (6) in... More

Breathtaking period property in central location with its own grounds. Check in was smooth and quick, we had a junior suite in the new building which was fantastic. Underfloor heating in the large bathroom was lovely. Staff were great and nothing was too much trouble. Eggs benedict for breakfast cooked too perfection. We will most definitely come back and stay... More

We stayed a very pleasant two nights at the historical Jesmend Dene House in Newcastle Upon Tyne. Beside the beautiful Jesmend Dene Park, the hotel is a little way out of the city - but only ten minutes by metro train. The dining room where breakfast is served is particularly picturesque.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
A grand house with contemporary style, a leafy setting near the heart of the city. Jesmond Dene House is neither a townhouse nor a country house hotel. It's simply 40 well-designed bedrooms and suites in a richly historic building offering understated luxury and rather good food. Overlooking the wooded valley of Jesmond Dene, the privately owned hotel guarantees peace, escapism and a refreshing change. Newcastle's city centre, however, is only a five-minute drive. The hotel recently received 4 red stars and the AA Hotel of the Year 2008-2009. ... more   less
