staff friendly and welcomin. but get what you pay for. this was cheap and cheerful but in need of a refurb. i was disapppinted in the view as not quite as advertised. bedding and towels looked clean but smelt strange. as i left i noticed what looked like clean towels being used as door stops by the cleaning staff.

This hotel is on the quayside in Newcastle and this location is ideal for bars , clubs and landmarks along the river Tyne .Shopping is a five minute walk up the hill and there are countless good restaurants close . There are views of the river , Swing bridge and Gateshead from front rooms . I stayed on a Friday... More

Stayed here for 2 nights midweek in a single room. Room rate including breakfast was astonishingly low and I was nervous about what it would be like. First impressions were a little dodgy, one small locked door inbetween two bars, a dingy entrance, a bar that resembled a 1980s hotel, my room was at the end of a corridor with... More

Hotel was lovely in a prime location. Our room had a wonderful view of the swing bridge. Staff friendly and helpful. Having read other reviews I can only say those people must be very nitpicking...room was fine...decor not too bad...it certainly wasn't dirty or shabby. We were at the front of the hotel and it wasn't that noisy when you... More

Threadbare carpet, beds with dips in making them extremely uncomfortable and our room was situated by a generator or something similar making the room very noisy and sleep virtually impossible. Rated as 3 star but after contacting enjoyengland.com (the rating people) have discovered that in fact this hotel is not participating in the rating scheme, so don't be fooled. Hand... More

Lovely and clean - with windows that fully open and decent view. However, very very hot in room, not lighter bed covers available in room. Also, had to pay £30 damage deposit for room (which was refunded upon checkout when no damage found) This just felt really unwelcoming and like they distrusted you. Especially when there was damage everywhere in... More

Overall the hotel was nice. Staff was very pleasant. Beds were okay - which is nice since the other beds we've had this trip to the UK have been bad. Here's the warning: Our room in the front of the hotel did NOT have air con. This is probably because it's a listed building and making changes to the front... More

Very friendly helpful staff. Excellent position close to The Sage and lots of restaurants and bars. Double glazing kept out street noise. Breakfast was good with a choice of cooked or continental. Not far from railway station and city centre.

Situated on Newcastle’s famous and picturesque Quayside and just an 8 minute walk to the city centre. The hotel occupies a handsome Grade II listed building steeped in history and includes free Wi-Fi, parking and the funky and lively late night bar "Jimmyz" open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays . The city centre plays host to an excellent choice of shopping and also plays host to the Theatre Royal, which brings in talents such as opera North and The Royal Shakespeare Company. The bar is located on the ground level or if it’s dancing you prefer, then look no further than Sea nightclub. The hotel aims to go that extra mile to ensure you have a wonderful stay. Each bedroom has a unique style; the layout of the hotel lends itself to well-appointed rooms with the privacy and intimacy of a boutique hotel. Rooms offer all modern facilities guests would expect plus some rooms have extras such as plasma screen TV and DVD player and air conditioning. At the Waterside staff believe it is important to start the day right with a delicious freshly cooked Full English Breakfast or tasty Continental Breakfast which is served every day from 7:00am – 10:00am Monday – Friday and 8:30am – 10:30am Saturday and Sunday. Although the hotel doesn’t serve lunch or evening meals the immediate area boasts an excellent range of restaurants and cafes in which to enjoy any variety of meal. The famous Jimmyz Bar has been a landmark venue in Newcastle since the major re-development of the Quayside in the early 90’s. The bar has recently had a makeover of its own and this opulent cosmopolitan venue now boasts an extensive cocktail list and the sort of hospitality which makes Newcastle a popular choice.Newcastle and the wider area is made up of a diverse variety of towns, cities, coast and countryside offering a huge selection of things to do whatever your tastes. From relaxing at the coast to soaking up world-class culture in the city centres, from getting back in-touch with nature at a woodland retreat to shopping at Europe’s largest indoor shopping and leisure complex, (Metrocentre). It’s rare to find anywhere so diverse that amazes visitors at every turn with its dialogue between ultra-modern and ancient, with award-winning dining, inspiring heritage, fantastic shopping and acclaimed architecture makes up a destination like no other. ... more   less
