I stayed in the Folly room which has a free standing bath in the bedroom which was quaint! Nice clean room. As i stayed alone on business, I was in my room most of the evening and the kitchen is directly underneath so a fair amount of noise could be heard until quite late and on again around 7.15am for...

A nice atmosphere and a good menu choice for lunch on this, our first visit. The selection of draught ales was somewhat limited (just two being available) though. We will certainly be returning for dinner before long.

Arrived and shown to our very clean comfortable room Folly. We chose this room because unlike most people who want a shower(most rooms have one) we only stay in hotels with a bath, for a relaxing break. Went exploring the walks of the pretty village, history of bridge, church and riverside walks. Like stepping back in time, traditional post office, very...

Booked through Secret Escapes and stayed on a Wednesday evening. Nicely welcomed & shown to our room which is tastefully furnished & very comfortable ( Stour). We enjoyed a walk around the pretty village before dinner. The food was excellent & the service impeccable, the same could be said at breakfast. We plan a return trip and would highly recommend.

I was only given the postcode by my girlfriend so the suspense was killing me!! When I arrived I was not disappointed the overall look of the place is amazing! We checked in and made our way to the room (primrose) instantly taken back by the lay out and decor , everything you want from a chic hotel room. Dinner...

Hard to fault this very nice gastro pub. Very pretty and in a lovely village, we six went on a great three mile walk on the afternoon we arrived based on a route given to us by the pub. Beautiful rooms, all different with modern fittings and bathrooms including fabulous showers. We had lunch and dinner in the restaurant on...

Recently visited with friends and was impressed with the food and accommodation. Dinner was delightful with a melonge of tastes and exquisite presentation. A minor let down was the fact the bar area is very small and the Packhorse, very busy however this is being picky. Happy to recommend for friends or couples.

Stayed here on a Sunday evening prior to moving to our location close by that we are staying for to celebrate our anniversary.. Arrived and were very quickly shown to our room (Stour..outside in the courtyard) Lovely big room. Bathroom was unbearably hot due to the underfloor heating thermostat being cranked up but once we turned that down it was...

This is a beautiful building but the food still needs a lot of refining to get to where they want to be, we've been a couple of times, last been for Mothers Day. We were immediately a little upset on arrival as we had been shoved in a dark room on our own away from the atmosphere of a nice...

I booked a two night stay for my girlfriend's 30th birthday on Secret Escapes. What a stunning location and fantastic price. The staff are super helpful, the food was good (the chicken wings were dry but my burger and fries was pretty good - my girlfriend loved her pork belt starter and rib eye steak). On night two went to...

Revitalised and reopened in October 2013. The Packhorse Inn offers a truly stunning dining and staying experience. Mediocrity is most certainly not on the menu or indeed any aspect of this eight bedroom country inn, which deliberately sets out to stretch the definition of "pub" to the limit. Awards/Recognition: • 3 AA Rosettes • 5 AA Stars for accommodation • Listed in The Times' 'Ultimate 100 British hotels' feature. • Sawday's "Favourite Newcomer" • Winner "Best Food Pub" in The Great British Pub Awards • Sawday's "Favourite Newcomer" • Listed in the Michelin Guide and The Good Food Guide Location: Rural Suffolk village just two and a half miles from Newmarket, the historic home of horse racing. Facilities: • 8 individually designed en suite bedrooms • a large dining and bar area • garden/terrace • club room for business meetings & events Food & Drink: The menu is best described as Modern European, catering for all tastes, from our affordable fixed price menu through to the a la carte, which delivers smart, contemporary dishes full of vibrant flavours. ... more   less
