Firstly it has to be said this is a spotlessly clean hotel (although can it really call itself a hotel when there is no option for an evening meal hmmm). I stayed in a superior room but even that had a bathroom basin with a sink plug not on a chain and without any air con I had the smallest fan in the world. Bedside lights that you either had to unplug other things to plug them in. Breakfast was faultless and the bar was great....and prices very reasonable. Bed was a bit squidgy for my personal liking but all in all it was a good sleep experience. Check in and check out were faultless

Stayed here for the Lichfield festival and it was ideally located for events in the cathedral which is a 5 min walk away. It’s a short walk from the train station (Lichfield City) And in the other direction there’s a Morrison’s supermarket which is really handy. Breakfast was nice, staff were friendly and there was a free car park for guests. The rooms were clean (and they offer a drink incentive if you don’t have the room cleaned if you stay more than 2 nights) though very warm- a fan was provided. Would recommend!

We were made very welcome by the staff when we arrived. There is no lift ( not brilliant if you have mobility issues ) but the staff carried our luggage and all was well. The rooms were large and comfortable and the breakfast not too bad. The only bugbear was that there were no disabled bays in the car park, and when you have mobility problems narrow bays only make things worse

We stayed here overnight 29 June and we found the room to be very clean and fresh, service from the staff (Tasmyn and lady on reception Saturday evening, sorry no name), was excellent, Tasmyn carrying our case up to 3rd floor and reception kindly guiding/recommending us when we were going out for a meal in the evening. We did not realise there was no lift or that the hotel was on a hill, no problem if you are fit. We left our car in the hotel's carpark which soon was full, and everything was to hand, which was great but, on the hottest day of the year that slight hill was rather taxing for a couple in their 80s. I should have checked so, my fault. We would recommend it and it's staff.

I have stayed at other hotels in the group and have always found them superb and that thus heightened my disappointment with The Cathedral. From the start let me say that the staff are universally helpful, friendly and efficient but it was the details beyond their control that let the Hotel down. Perhaps the biggest downside with The Cathedral is that, despite advertising “Restaurant” this is actually only for breakfast and not for lunchtime or evening meals, which came as a great disappointment. The staff did recommend “The George” (same Hotel Group), and you do get a discount in that hotel’s restaurant but it is a ten to fifteen minute walk away and, coming back, uphill all the way - not really a solution… Against that the breakfast was absolutely first class, go figure. The bedroom was comfortable but the décor was showing distinct evidence of being “tired”. The chair was very ‘wobbly’, the wallpaper torn in places, and the paint had distinct chips. The whole hotel needs a good refurbishment. Okay if all you want to do is sleep but otherwise I would say go to “The George”.
