Popped in for a quick drink and sandwich at lunchtime. Beer and atmosphere was good, sandwich was a different experience altogether. £5.50 each for dry supermarket bread. One with a very thin slice of plastic beef, and extra hot horseradish that had been livened up with mustard, the other something that could be loosly termed as smoked salmon, both accompanied... Sorry you didn't enjoy your sandwich. Our bread is not from a supermarket, it's from our local suppliers, Pullens. The beef is again from a local supplier and cooked on the premises. The smoked salmon is hand smoked. We are not in the habit or throwing food, 'brown' lettuce or otherwise. More

Stayed here on 20th Oct. Room at top floor which is a pain if you have a heavy case. Asked what time breakfast was and told Chef gets in at 7.30 but cold breakfast buffet available at 7.00. NOT THE CASE. Was told in the morning by a very blunt young lady that breakfast was at 7.30. No discussion. Was... More

Thank you for your review. Whilst we do not have a porter, we are always happy to help people with bags/suitcases to all our rooms. We're really sorry about you being misinformed about breakfast times. You should have been told correct time of 7.30am. We often don't open the front door until 8am (more often than not it is raining... More

We were on holiday in Wells and popped into The Crown for a "quick" drink with some friends. The building appears to be quite old and quaint. We were impressed by the friendly atmosphere. The staff were very hospitable and we'll definitely return when we are next in Wells.

Visited here a few weeks ago on a Sunday. Have met friends for drink before and thought it was worth trying for food. In a nutshell it's like a Brewers Fayre chain pub in a lovely old building. The food is average. Nice meat but the kind of veg your nan would boil up for you. I had to ask... More

Well, a Trip Advisor review is based on one's opinion, yours is very disparaging. All our food is freshly prepared, the majority of which is locally sourced, you likening it to that of a Brewers Fayre is, in our opinion, unfair. You should not have had to ask for the table to be cleared nor wiped down, we are sorry... More

We thoroughly enjoyed the quaint room, food and atmosphere at this hotel. The food and service was excellent in the dining room. The Pub had a signed pictures and a Kevlar vest from the actors in the movie "Hot Fuzz" which was filmed there. Very Cool!

I stayed a night at the Crown in Wells and the first thing I noticed was how nice the location is. As I was parking my car one thing I did notice was the shortage of parking space. Its got a nice bar but from what I remember there was no T.V and if there was it was in a... More

Thank you for taking the time to write a Trip Advisor review. We're so pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay with us. Parking can be tricky as The Crown was built in 1450 as a coaching inn. We do have enough room to accommodate vehicles of guests staying in our rooms and are always happy to help as it's... More

Stayed 4 nights at the Crown. Lovely location. All rooms are well appointed and comfortable. My only issue would be the beds in the single rooms. Its a four poster style with a wooden base. Looks great and is comfortable, but getting in and out is hard and can be painful if you are short. They are quite high and... More

Dropped in for an evening meal. Menu limited and food matched. Probably OK if you don't expect much but would have been nice if more attention to quality. Very basic pub grub with higher charges I suppose it it is what it is..not for us though

Extremely helpful staff, comfortable and cosy room and bathroom (fortunate to be upgraded to a four-poster bedroom!), excellent location, delicious breakfast (table laid in a different part of the restaurant, as we had the dog with us, which made us feel very special!). The hotel is old, so creaky floors and some worn furnishings, but these added to its charm.... More
