The Lorax Patch is a small farm & campsite in Somerset, a mile or so south of the tiny City of Wells, and 5 miles from Glastonbury. We are a working (albeit small) farm, rearing livestock and growing fruit & vegetables. Please come and stay with us, we offer a rustic camping experience (no showers!) but what we lack in facilities, we make up for with space and freedom.

I wanted to spend weekend away with my Son and I had scoured all of the campsites around this area on the internet first. Most options seemed OK, but they didn’t have the right feeling. Then The Lorax Patch popped up.
From the minute I read the website and saw the pictures I knew this place was something unique. We were not disappointed!
The very moment we arrived at the gates we were put at ease by one of the wonderful owners, Gabe. He came to greet us, and having run through the simple do’s and don’t’s (which by the way, are all based on common sense, respect of people and nature, so no issues there!) he then invited my Son and I to help feed the chickens.
We set up our ample designated pitch, which came complete with a picnic bench and a fire pit before soaking in the peace and tranquility around us.
The site itself focuses on feeling at one with nature and ourselves as people. The layout and presentation was neat and natural in perfect balance, you can sense the love, care and commitment the couple have put into this site, it’s simply stunning.
There are meadows or fields on each side, animals on site (sheep and chickens) a vegetable patch, a quaint and romantic little stream which really captivates your imagination and a rope swing, which my Son enjoyed until he literally had blisters.
The pitch itself was flat, and the pegs gave little to no resistance, just perfect ground. Yet the surrounding countryside offers rolling hills and plenty of verdant lushness.
The facilities were a great match for the purpose and feeling of the site, clean, tidy and considerate compost toilets and the deep sink available were more than adequate and actually really enjoyable to use.
Both Gabe and Char insisted that anything we needed was only ever a call away, and this included a tidy wood basket equipped with all of the things you need for a fire and at at very reasonable price.
I can’t stress or thank them enough for the comfortable and relaxed feeling they ensured from the very first minute to the last. Unbelievably attentive.
The Lorax Patch was the ultimate place for quality time and tranquility. I was able to be at peace in nature, build a cosy fire, toast marshmallows, look up at the stars and spend quality time with my Son.
This place is camping. Pure and natural perfection.
My Son and I will be back again and again.

This is a wonderful campsite, so much so that I hope to go back again this season. Beautiful, rural setting. The pitch is mowed into a meadow, with enclosed chickens at one end, a small modern barn at another end, and a line of trees with a little stream in. Though the couple own farmland, it's elsewhere (I think!) - we were simply adjacent to fields and a young orchard. The compost loos were very clean, inviting (!) and well kept, and there were sinks with running water (and some very nice smelling handwash!). The site has handled covid regulations well (own loo, own sink) and it felt very safe as a result. The couple running the site were friendly and helpful and very accommodating to our requests. Due to covid, the site has only a few pitches, which was ideal for a feeling of peace and privateness - you certainly weren't rammed shoulder to shoulder. Great location too, as Wells is lovely. My top tip would be to double check walking directions to Wells, as the route we ended up taking was longer than expected (though lovely) - I imagine due to our own ineptitude in map reading!

Small yet beautiful site set amongst the wildlife and within walking distance of Wells. Safe and well spaced out pitches gave the feeling of privacy and also freedom with a rope swing and small stream nearby ideal for paddling. Excellent composting toilets and sink areas which were individually allocated to each pitch during our 2 night stay. Looking forward to returning again soon.

Really lovely place, simple & without many facilities. But quiet, beautiful location.
Tiny city of Wells is 10 mins walk along footpaths.
Nice to be on a working farm. Fresh eggs in the morning :-)
Highly recommended, great countryside camp spot, family friendly.

myself and my friend stayed with her 2.5yr old. We wanted peaceful and simple and this site delivered much much more than that. With only 4 pitches on the site, each one with its own picnic table and fire pit. Each pitch also has its own "luxury!" Compost loo and sink, meaning simple things like leaving your washing up on the draining board! There is an idyllic little stream and ripe swing, which was perfect for paddling and playing on. Gabe and Char were the perfect hosts, a warm welcome, occasional check in but felt completely comfortable on the site. You also get stunning views of the sunset over the Mendips. Gabe even came to find us to let us know about lambs arriving and to help feed the chickens. This site is truly magical and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a simple but very well managed campsite, look no further!

We spent three nights at the Lorax over a beautiful May bank holiday weekend and I have to say it was utterly perfect! The location was great for exploring the local area, we were able to walk with our two boys (3 & 6) into Wells for the day which was wonderful. The site itself is a little tranquil haven, clearly very much loved and beautifully landscaped. Our children loved the rope swing and paddling in the river and thoroughly enjoyed feeding the chickens with Gabe! The hosts, Char and Gabe were attentive and helpful and made us all feel so welcome! If you are after a little escapism in a beautiful spot then the Lorax is perfect, we would highly recommend it! We will definitely be back, thank you so much guys! Xx

We had a lush three night stay at the Lorax patch whilst visiting family nearby. The site is beautiful and we loved swinging on the rope swings and paddling in the river. We all enjoyed feeding the sheep and our youngest enjoyed helping Gabe with the chickens.
We will definitely be back.
It felt very safe, clean and well set up for COVID.

Last summer I was totally fed up with Covid, and the restrictions and stress of it all. So hence I felt that needed to get away for a couple of nights. A friend recommended The Lorax Patch and I am so glad they did.
The Lorax Patch is located about a mile south from the centre of Wells, where there are both Lidl and Waitrose food stores, as well as the famous Bishops Palace, with its fantastic gardens, Cathedral and lots of coffee shops. However the site itself feels to be in the middle of nowhere. Perfect isolation. A lovely flat field surrounded by trees and a few hills.
On arrival Gabe (the co-owner) was utterly charming, and really keen to ensure that I made the most of my stay with them. My “pitch” came complete with a picnic bench, and a fire pit and was ideal. And again nicely secluded from the rest of the site.
Then, after a late night star gazing session sat beside my fire pit, I went to sleep to the sound of an owl, and woke up in the morning to the gentle sound of a rooster and the sheep in the distance. A perfect rural retreat.
Add in to that all that Gabe and Char have done to make the place a fully working eco-friendly small holding, complete with animals which the kids can see, and lots of space to run around in beside each pitch, and you have the recipe for a perfect ‘back to nature’ retreat and break.
Absolutely superb and therefore very highly recommended. Personally I can’t wait until Covid restrictions are lifted once again in a few weeks, and I can get back there for another stay.

Stayed here for 2 nights last minute booking, guy we dealt with was bang on, facilities were spotless, own bench and fire pit which was superb. Great site for families and backpackers would only stay here again if I was in the area after staying at numerous campsites in the surrounding areas while backpacking this one was by far the best. Great for stargazing too.

We had a lovely time staying at this small and peaceful campsite. Pitches are well spaced out and large and I loved the addition of picnic benches and a fire pit! Toilets/sinks were also super clean and very eco friendly. The owners were very welcoming and helpful. Plus, the centre Wells is just a short walk from the campsite. Would definitely stay here again!
