A very welcoming and comfortable place for my weekly stay in Wells. Nothing is too much trouble. Comfortable well decorated rooms and very nice beds! Close to the Cathedral and town centre, but not too noisy.

Nice room - large and comfortable but lighting could have been better. We had the 5-course tasting menu for dinner (included as part of a Travelzoo deal) and it was lovely. Great service too. Nice breakfast also but some fresh fruit would have made it even better.

Friendly, helpful staff in all areas of the hotel. Amazing food, we were impressed with the quality and imagination of the menu. Rooms upstairs, which could be a problem for the less able. Room very clean and toiletries provided. Excellent location for the town centre and some parking available at extra charge. Will stay again when in the area.

Small room, smaller bathroom, but quaint and fine for our one night stay. Breakfast very good, dining area lovely. Staff most helpful. Walk across the road, through an old archway and there you are -- gazing in awe at Wells Cathedral, across the green.

We stayed here for a couple of nights to visit and explore Wells. It's a smashing little hotel - only 15 or so rooms. The staff were very helpful and cheerful - friendly almost to a point of over-familiarity but carried off with real, natural charm - informality at its best! There is a great attention to detail here -...

Stayed here for 3 nights over new year with a group of friends. Some of the bedrooms/bathrooms are still work in progress but after a good nights sleep in the most heavenly comfy bed the small faults paled into insignificance. A special mention must go to the staff, who made our stay such a success, nothing was too much trouble...

The hotel has been recently refurbished very tastefully. We had a lovely room which was very comfortable and had a great night's sleep. The hotel staff looked after us very well: I am pregnant and they took great care to ensure that the menu didn't include anything I shouldn't eat or anything that I had an aversion to; they even...

We stayed here just after New Year and it was very quiet. The staff are very helpful and friendly witnessed by the fact that when we arrived, our allocated room was extremely cold as the heating failed (it is an extremely old building) and they changed us straight away with no fuss. On our first night we had a 5-course...

Every year we and 6/7 other couples go away for New Year. Last year we went to The White Hart's sister hotel, The Moonraker. Our stay there was very comfortable so it was a no brainer. A fantastic central location to explore the nearby cathedral and the lovely city of Wells. We were unable to book a superior room, but...

Nice hotel with friendly staff. The room we had was fine, and the food was good. Excellent location for Wells Cathedral. Parking our car wasn't easy though. Would recommend this hotel and we will return.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Recently taken over by new owners (September 2015) the 15th century White Hart Hotel is situated in the city centre just 10 short steps from the famous Cathedral. Its 15 en suite bedrooms make the perfect base from which to explore Wells and the surrounding area. The restaurant serves locally sourced British food cooked by Head Chef Matthew Briddon (River Café). Wells is a medieval city nestling on the southern side of the Mendip Hills with the mystic Somerset Levels stretching away to the south and west. The history of Wells goes right back to Roman times when it was known that there was a settlement, probably because of the springs that bubble up here. Wells gets its name from these springs which can today be found in the gardens of the Bishop's Palace. Bristol, Bath, Glastonbury, Glastonbury Tor, Cheddar, Clarks Village, Wells Golf Club and Longleat are all close by. ... more   less
